i have never been more appreciative of flight rising's breeding system since i also started playing lioden. jesus christ. lioden's breeding system is literally praying rng likes you for the genes you have, since there's a chance it doesn't fill a slot anyway. fr's system is forgiving because at LEAST you get the gene you already have.

and then on top of that, your pair will end up dying, so you have to pray they have a similar cub before they do, and if they don't, all your work to get those lions was wasted.

It's impossible to have consistently pretty lions unless you're throwing actual cash at the game constantly.

I bought gold beetles once during their black friday sale and my den had some pretty lions I got, but RNG said "Fuck you" and not a single one of my pretties had decent cubs. I stopped playing after that.

And somehow, they made it worse with Wolvden- because playing with wolves is NOT easy, is expensive, and is a pain in the ass. Last time I played, they didn't have toys/amusement items. Did not last long on wolvden.

Yet I've been on FR since launch. Major love to FR for their breeding system. I get INTO my breeding projects and have FUN with them. Lio/Wolvden made me stop playing.

I can't speak on Lio/wolvden. But can we also talk about the colorwheel and breeding? I've played some other breeding games (a gryphon one... Gryffs? and FelisFire namely) that have a kinda similar gene inheritance system and the pets don't necessarily die so much as age out of breeding.... but their color systems were just such ass I had to stop playing because breeding was only giving ugly dirty dishwater versions of the colors because those games use a hexcode based system where a majority of the colors you will get are de-saturated muddy greys.

I'm not surprised Lorwolf borrowed the strict wheel idea from FR, it works! It's so much better than hexes.

Have there been any successful pet site launches since DV? it seems like all the sites that have opened in the past few years get wrung dry by people looking to cash in on FR and then left in a ditch. It feels like at this point the only way to foster an actual player base who aren't just using your Kickstarter to get imp scrolls is to completely ban off-site trading.

I doubt that FR traders at fault here tbh. The example I'm more familiar with, Lorwolf, is barely alive now more because it has horribly incompetent devs (by many accounts people are able to run exploration bots for literally days and get nothing for doing that at all + the whole official discord fiasco and them going MIA for like three months straight) and awful in-game currency balance, the economy on LW is in absolute shambles right now

it's rarely ever an issue of cross-site trading, it's primarily the issue of barely anyone going into petsites really realizes exactly how much work it'll be and can't keep up with it, because it's a passion project first, and then *later* a business. this is an issue that has plagued petsites for a very long time. we've been in a drought of petsites that survive for about 2 decades now. most that still exist get by, but barely any of them thrive.

i would say a good 60-70% of petsites have ended up massively stagnating or failing entirely due to inexperienced or incompetent staff, lacking a strong business foundation with room to grow, and/or an inability or lack of desire to expand properly to keep up with player interest. DV managed to succeed in a way similar to FR because its creators had a strong vision/experience (i'm very familiar with many members of staff of dappervolk, as many of them brought experience from working on other petsites i've worked with), at least one of them had a huge following that could gain a quick audience through loyalty, and then they managed to deliver an experience that kept the attention of players in a profitable way that allowed the site to keep going.

its extremely hard to make petsites that have staying power. i've worked under plenty of petsite owners/staff who were money hungry, just dipped out of nowhere, refused to give control of basic work that needed to be done to others or couldn't dictate work effectively, or handle the weight of delivering a live-service game to consumers which inevitably would lead to other staff being burnt out and quitting, or the site draining resources faster than it could get back.

i plan on going away soon but one of the things stopping me is that i have a special dragon and some other items (sprites, umas) that i’d hate to have rot away on a dead account. i have a friend, if i give it to them for safekeeping, like just to hold onto just in case i fail, itd look like funnelling, and then we’d both get locked because staff would absolutely notice. which sucks and i dont want to do that to them. what do

hi op. i'm not going to pretend to know your situation, but as someone who made their flight rising account as a suicidal teenager and has managed to stay alive long enough to reach adulthood and getting away from some of the circumstances that made everything so much worse i just want to say that there is nothing too small to not be worth staying alive for. if not wanting your dragons or sprites or umas to be in an inactive account is enough to keep you holding on for another day then that is worth staying alive for. i know it feels impossible now, but the only way to know if it can get any better is to be alive to see it (and be alive to make it - for me, staying alive long enough to leave home and access therapy and medicine was so fucking hard, but it was worth it and as hard as recovery is it is better than the alternative 100 times out of 100)

be safe and be well. i know it can sound empty when you're in the thick of it, but it does get better and we can only make it better if we're still here

Nonny, I will not pretend I know anything going in your life or anything, but let me tell you life is worth living, no matter how shit and bleak it appears now it will eventually get better.

If anything, what kept me from doing what you plan on doing was thinking how much it'd hurt the people I'd leave behind and well, as Mindless said don't make those dragons, sprites and other frankly dead items turn into a memory of sadness for them.

I encourage you to think over it some more, I am aware I am a few days after this was posted but if anything please do think and maybe reach out to any of the resources posted before you do anything.

echoing all the other nonnies to say that while I absolutely cannot tell you what to do and your pain is valid, I also want to say as someone whose been there and attempted - things really do get better. I know that's annoying to hear and feels worthless and meaningless in the thick of it, trust me I thought the same way, but things do start to look up.

The key truly is holding on to those little things that make your life feel more worth it. You care about that dragon, and those special items, and that means you have a reason to keep going to keep enjoying them. Hold on to all those little things, nonny, and eventually they'll get bigger and bigger.

I wish you all the best and I hope you're still here with us, you'll get out of this one day.

This isn't an ad I swear I'm just hyperfixated as hell. IDK if anyone else feels this way but I'd thought the horror game scheme on Steam had become super stale, I'm just not really interested in any of it, even viral ones like lethal company. But then my friends got me into abiotic factor and now I'm just obsessed. I don't even play horror a lot because I'm a scaredy cat but despite being on edge every time I play it I keep going back lol

Somehow these guys found a way to mix half life, SCP Containment Breach and survival crafting together into a genuinely awesome experience. Yea as any game it's not perfect, I can see plenty of reasons why someone else might not like it, but for an indie game it's so stupid impressive and just so fun. Early access on steam is another thing I personally find a red flag but the game had so much content straight out the gate and now it has a shitton more cuz of a huge update. I have like, art commissions to do and I still need to get all the warrior's way stuff but I'm just playing it for hours instead

Idk if anyone else has tried this game. But even if not idk feel free to talk about your own Steam horror games (or just games in general) experience honestly I'm just happy to talk games whenever

I'm unsure how much this is getting talked about outside of the circles I'm in, but for the past month or two a lot of shady shit has been shared of happenings behind the scenes. There's a decent range of accusations and allegations going on over there, but the shit I actually think is important is this post sharing the rates artists are apparently working under.

I don't know what industry standards are like, but it's really hard to look at these numbers and think it's acceptable under any circumstances in this day and age. Santae is a game I've seen highly praised for how much it has to offer in such an early stage in development, and I used to respect them for that. But now it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth to know it probably was able to deliver so much so early through exploitation like this.
