while the familiar is sick af, I am a little sad because I was hoping for it to be a series of mythological creatures. But it's still really cool looking, it looks like they would love a ritz cracker

Light Gryphon: Beautiful, regal, majestic.

Lightning Gryphon: Murder hobo, dumpster diving for a living, probably smells like a thousand dead rats.

I'm hoping this means the Plague gryphon will be a crow/opossum then.

As a former acolyte and current spark, I couldn't be more pleased with them both

I'm going to be completely honest, when I first saw the announcement post I thought it was a hyena. I'm not sure if it's because it actually gives off very hyena vibes or if hyenas have taken over my life

I'm going feral over the Duskfall Scavenger tbh. Not sure if it's an unpopular opinion but it's the best thing to come out of this festival. The sword and main apparel are fine, the familiar is neat, but so far I've spent like half of my stash of prismatic coins just on the Scavenger

Mod spoke it into being, I am merely the one moved to act.

According to JD Vance, Wayfair.com is pornography and Rent-a-Center is a brothel.

JD Vance is anti-immigrantion because he got banned from IKEA for molesting the sofas and never got over it.

JD Vance once demanded a paternity test for an ottoman.

i like the design a lot other than the ears. they look weird to me on a vulture head. like they were just kind of stapled on

Oh it's 100% meant to be a stripped hyena; seems like they'll be picking different Feliformia animals + bird of prey for each gryphon which makes me a lot more excited for them personally

Same!! I think the posture did it for me

+1, it absolutely looks like the world’s most skrungly hyena

Re: Festival Thread

I am hyped about it being all gryphons (I wouldn't have minded different mythological figures, but I love it when I get different version of the same one), but I don't really like this one.

Then I realized why... It looks like a cross between one of the hyenas from the Lion King and a vulture...

I personally was hoping we get mythological creatures but oh boi gryphons it is. I am not opposed to them but now that we know the theme they are going for (bird of prey + probably some predatory mammal) it looks really bleak for earth once again.

Tho I don't understand why they chose those 2 animals for lightning, when I think of a vulture and hyena I think of plague, but maybe plague gets then a lammergeier/jackal gryphon.

Circling back to earth, I don't have much hope for they get something good. The black/brown stone eagle is now already taken by light, which would have been perfect since earth is known for its mountain ridges and eagles would have been a fitting part of the gryphon for them.

Earth probably gets a road runner/camel or some dumb shit, they get always sidelined because earth is not allowed to have creative things apart from brown rocks. :(

Hear me out though:

What if they picked a Bower Bird for Earth?

A bower bird would be a great "bird half" for Earth.

Staff, if you're reading this, you have a chance to do something good for Earth with this.

omg nonny is that the "becky let me smash" bird? if yes I NEED THAT ASAP as a gryphon

Roadrunner/camel sounds cool tho????

Generally fest familiars are VERY solid and cohesive, as I would guess they’re probably developed as a set rather than individually month-to-month. I don’t think any flight (including Earth) has been routinely shafted when it comes to familiars, at least

(although I am still mildly salty that we don’t have a Capricorn recolor from the western zodiac set…)

Ok but: if I were a betting person I'd say Earth is likely to get some sort of flightless bird (because they're grounded and down to ~earth~ lmao), which puts things like emus and cassowary and kiwi and, ok sure dodos into play. Then if they stick with feline (or feline-adjacent) critters for the other half, it's going to be something terrestrial, plains or mountain-dwelling.

I'm not saying ostrich/cougar but you guys might get something like an ostrich/cougar.

And for the Lightning hyena/vulture, I think they were leaning into the desert aesthetic. Honestly I saw it and thought sphynx cat, not hyena, though the posture does lend itself in that direction.

I would flip my lid (positively) for a cassowary or a roadrunner for earth
yeah it does look like the second half is feliforms rather than strictly cats (or ig it could be mammals in general, I guess time will tell)
