Considering that every other flight told Plague that unannounced challenges should be the norm and that we overreacted when it happened, I think it's fair if we challenge without giving any heads up; we'd simply be playing the game as it's expected from the rest of the playerbase.

That being said, the Light Sprite is a certain way to lock in both weeks as a win; even if another flight wanted to challenge, no amount of fanfare would win OOF support away from potentially winning the sprite. Plague's bank is hurting too hard from fighting Water to get even close to offering a prize equal to it, and I don't imagine other flights are willing either.

Plague anon from above. I'm guessing you're a newer face to FR. Go look at the 2014-2018 Dom Watch records. Impromptu pushes WERE the norm for many years. There was no point whining when they happened. We had to deal with what came our way, same as every other flight in the game.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. I was replying to OP's statement of "that'd be pretty hypocritical if [Plague] don't give our orgs a heads up" by saying that Wind shouldn't expect one from Plague should we choose to challenge. I'm not whining that we weren't given a heads up; I've accepted that it is the norm and was simply telling OP that the reverse is true- if Plague doesn't need a heads up for a battle, neither does Wind.

I only brought up the recent double dom fight to emphasize that this norm seems to still be expected currently (since cultures change over time and it isn't too effective to point to 10 years ago and claim that that's what everyone currently expects of dom; most current players were not active in 2014-2018).

Key word there is were the norm. Were. Past tense. The impromptu battle from Water set Plague's bank into practically nothing. A normal, planned battle wouldn't have. It's not an overreaction to be upset about that, especially after such impromptu battles hadn't happened in 5 years.

If people were upset at Plague contesting all the time, had they ever thought of fucking bringing it up to the orgs? Of course not lmao. People would rather complain to themselves than communicate.

Water wouldn’t have sent Plague’s bank into nothing if Plague had been doing the normal grind of profit pushes instead of constantly conquesting. And given that there was consistently a mediocre raffle and no public buy, then yeah, it’s not surprising someone got tired of the nonstop meh dom. Plague always had the option of backing out and saying “we can’t afford this”.

IDC about the rest of your comment, you can feel however you want to feel about dragons sports, but the math on this doesn't add up. There's no way that competing with a rival PB for 1 and a half days instead of all 7 on a week where the entire site HASN'T been stuffing their dens full of dragons for months to sell at the last second is more expensive than a planned battle between the same flights. Not to mention entirely avoiding the cost of typical OOF raffle prizes for a planned battle.

Sure, Plague had their PB open for many days prior - but at reasonable prices. They decided to raise those prices. Show the receipts and dish on how much they spent on this compared to their last real battle if I'm wrong!!! But on paper, that makes no sense!!

change begets innovation that dom sorely needed. dom watch has had a note saying that no one is ever obligated to announce anything in advance for years. impromptu battles have always been on the table, it just happens that this was the first time in so long that a flight decided to inject some excitement back in the scene.

you guys are allowed to feel hurt and upset, but this post is a show of poor sportsmanship.

IIRC Nature asked Plague to move their double dom in Dec 2023 so they could do their traditional week for Decorate the Behemoth, and Plague said no. So yes the orgs were consulted and they frankly got what they deserved later.

SA I checked DW archives and this seemed to not happen but it was a nature org specifically who told me this so idk what happened. if any nature people are around and could clarify that'd be great lol.

As a non-Plague member I think a lot of people are tired of Plague specifically having uncontested double dom. I was very surprised when no one contested light last week honestly.

to be fair, light made it exceptionally clear that if you stepped to them they were ready to fight for it. they had OOF boarding open and were prehoarding for weeks, this was treated like a proper double dom conquest with the proper effort unlike some other flights.

im in light and now that weve conquested, i can say that we were indeed hoarding and preparing for a battle. i think its good that wind has done the same - plague got complacent with their double doms, and its reminded all of us how no dom is ever guaranteed. youve gotta put the work in, either with grinding or with incentives for people to grind for you.

tbh i think this isn't going to lead to more spontaneous battles. who's going to challenge wind for double dom when they have a light sprite in the mix, or light with their stored prelevels? i'd be shocked if light and wind dom orgs and other experienced dom people genuinely thought that they'd still be challenged, and i would honestly consider it pretty disingenuous if they did, but of course i don't know what their thoughts are.

i don't know if even earth or water would feel up to challenging light with boarding or wind with light sprite so to me this just seems less like it's prepping for battle and more like a way to book up more dom weeks without being challenged. i'm just hoping this isn't the new norm - doing double dom, but with so much prep that it makes it unrealistic for anyone else to challenge you.

as someone who mainly played FR in the earlier years, i'm finding myself less interested in the game as the main thing i enjoyed about the game (spontaneous battles and more opportunity to try new things with them) is pretty much gone. the water/plague thing rekindled my interest and i'm just disappointed that it seems like that trend will not continue. oh well.

or is approximately half of plague seriously gonna carry a chip on your shoulder for the rest of time about this one.

like, honestly! plague demonstrated itself to be in a pretty heavy weightclass with all those double doms; it's not weird that people would be less "precious" with etiquette around contesting you than they would with a flight perceived as more of an underdog.

1st plague anon in this wind double dom thread here. Hate to be the one to break it to you, but Plague has never had the best reputation. At best, we have tenuous respect with the rest of the playerbase; at worst, no one wants to deal with us because we have vocal players that act out and don't care about anyone but themselves. See the recent rash of Plague "wankers" for a few examples.

I appreciate your support for Plague. But if our newer players want to act like they live in a vacuum, or show disdain for understanding Plague's position in the greater FR community, no amount of support will matter.

Wind, on the other hand, understands the power of the long game. They had a reputation as a slacker flight, but kept making upsets in high stakes battles for years. Now they're doing double dom with a Light Sprite for OOF and the rest of the sprites for IF. The thought that anyone's going to challenge Wind - after they've grinded for years to improve their dom - is absurd.

I welcome our corgi overlords for the next two weeks. They've earned it.

where—as in, from what communities?—were you getting that impression?

personally I was by and large was seeing a lot of excitement and enthusiasm, with the noted exception of some vocal bitterness from a subset of plague members.

AYRT i'm in some smaller random discord servers and most people i talked to thought water was rude and out of line for not asking first. 🤷‍♀️ personally i don't agree and was surprised most people i saw felt this way.

insider information here but in the all dom team discord, plaguedom brought this issue up and was told by the other dom teams that most of them were all for it, barring naturedom.

wait, if they're all for it, why did anon before mention having to dig for DW posts from 2018 or earlier, since from what I've seen, most of the dom team roosters didn't change much from then? if everyone is for it, why are there impromptu battles once every blue moon?

DA Shadow was also against scuffling. The only ones being really pro scuffle were Water and Wind. Lightning and Earth seemed open to it but I think did not express a strong opinion. I don't recall Fire or Arcane being involved in the convo significantly.
