tbh a lot of it is the fault of apparel. like hooves wouldnt be feasible with the ring apparel afaik but that's still no excuse for more diverse body types, especially with ancients since that was the entire reasoning of their conception.
part of the problem is also that theres the sweet spot of what people would consider "dragon-like" and is also widely appealing is kind of slim. i would love more wacky breed designs, but i understand why the devs would play it kinda safe.

I might be the odd one out big time with this take but I really wish they'd not update old artwork (the most recent example being the sand, gravel and salt update).
I guess I just need to face the fact that the site is moving toward a new art style that I don't really like. Bleh.

when did these get updated? what did they look like before

oh i cleared my cache and it's shown up. this will take some getting used to... it looks so different. i think they're kind of pretty though

as someone who tried to join the arcane dom team a while back, it really does feel like the current dom team is trying to remain in power... without doing anything. They get super uptight whenever someone tries to join and never shows any indication of passing the baton to people who actually have time and energy.
The team is nice, and I hope their IRL issues get resolved, but they should at least pass the reins to the people that want to/can help.

wait, really? when was this? I wasn’t even aware that they were letting people on the team
I agree they are kind of pretty, but to be honest, they don't really look like what they are meant to be anymore. Well, sand does, but gravel and salt don't.
what does "tried to join" look like, just curious? like did you ask to join, or were there applications, or what.
Salt looks like a cleaner pile of salt now. I've seen salt piles of both table and rock salt. It looks closer to rock salt than the salt we use for food.
I don't see the big deal. It didn't look like salt before to me.

there are definitely people that are interested in stepping up or helping out in some way, so i have no clue why there's been no more recruitment into the dom team in the way that there's been recent recruitment into the flight discord's mod team, especially when there's some overlap between the two. i can't imagine why nobody is bothering to try and find assistance with the current issues, it seems weird especially with how irl problems is brought up so often. it's been going on for so long that you have to imagine it's been realized at some point that this isn't working. the "oh it's arcane, we're the funny silly flight, we're always chaotic!" can really only be joked about so many times before you start getting discouraged and wonder if the culture of lax dom is some partial excuse as to why so much seems mismanaged, rushed, and underplanned. i just. do not understand why there's no effort into searching for new additions. and you're right in that nobody is bringing it up probably because... what do you say other than "oh, it's ok, irl is more important" that doesn't make you seem like an asshole? no idea how you're meant to bring anything up without running the risk of seeming insensitive. nobody wants that pinned on them.
i too am worried about AvL and how it might be affected by the dom team seemingly not having it together. this battle has been in the works for over a year at least and it's going to be a bit of a letdown if things start going south, though i'm maintaining some faith in that it's more important than profit push #19384602, so maybe it'll be more of an "ok, let's get into gear now" moment...?

another flightrising impatient witch hunt. has anyone ever commissioned art outside of a petsite? etsy, deviantart, local shops. it can take 3-4 months for a turnaround on average.
princecats said they were in an emergency situation- which is why they needed cash. whatever emergency they are in clearly they cant spend time online.
!!!
btw this is stupid as fuck especially since princecats said, at the top of the post, those who asked for refunds were immediately given them. if you want your money back just ask for it instead of doing this

Why is op here posting half baked accusations about this artist is ghosting/scamming them instead of first contacting the artist about a refund, wtf op.

I'm starting to think that maybe I'm a toxic person who is unpleasant to be around on Discord. But I can't tell if it's because of how I am as a person, or if it's because I've only ever been active in servers where the regulars are toxic drama mongers. I get into fights a lot, but it's always only been with people who've been mentioned in wanker threads. Does that mean I'm justified in verbalizing how I don't like the way they act, or does opening my mouth make me just as bad as them?
I hated my flight's server for being cliquey and got banned for being combative. I hate the 18+ server I'm in now because all of the regulars piss me off and Dakkoki lurks there and everyone is fine having him around. I can tell nobody likes me in that server either, for some reason I haven't been banned yet. (Maybe that's part of the problem. I've never seen someone get banned.)
It feels shitty because I think if I tried to find refuge in a new server, I would just bring this toxicity in with me. I want people to talk to, I want to feel like I'm not crazy for going against the grain. Maybe I'll never fit in anywhere, because I don't conform to the norms of Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, or 4chan subcultures.
I need to touch grass, don't I...

and I'm just sitting here, waiting on a commission that's taking more than a year to complete. Granted, the artists keeps me up to date and gives me updates on the art itself, but they have really bad rheumatoid arthritis that fucks with their wrists and I keep telling them to take as much time as they need. Health >>> Pixels! It's okay my dude, dont push yourself. it's just art of a furry character.
But like I KNEW what I was getting into since they made it known that they too were using their commissions to help with the bills associated with their autoimmune disease. But yeaaaah they also keep me up to date often. To be fair, so.

As someone who used to moderate a flight server, I can tell you that banning someone from those servers does not happen lightly. I think most flights want to be inclusive and usually only ban people who are causing a lot of problems. Every flight server I've been in tends to be a little cliquey simply because people get to know each other and become friends. A lot of people pass through a flight and don't stay, so the people that do stay are more likely to talk to people they know and like.
I guess my question is, why are you staying in servers where people piss you off? There are many different kinds of subcultures on most of the sites you listed. You are never going to find a single person, let alone a group of people, that you agree with 100% of the time. People are varied, have their own life experiences, and even the best of them have a shitty opinion or two.
My advice:
1. Unless you are a moderator of a server, there is no need to verbalize your dislike of how someone is acting. If you don't like them, don't interact with them. If they are breaking a rule and a mod hasn't noticed, DM a mod and let them know. It's not your job to police the people in servers where you are simply a member.
2. Cut people some slack sometimes. You don't have to agree with everything someone says to get along. Sometimes it's okay to agree to disagree.
3. Leave a server if you don't like a majority of the people in it. You are allowed to curate your own online experience and staying in a group that constantly makes you angry is not healthy.
4. This sounds kind of ridiculous, but google how to stop being toxic. There are some really good articles out there.

To me, it just looks like white sand.
Yeah, it didn't look like salt before, but they could have fixed that with this art update, to make it look less like just recolored sand and more like salt.

+1 Good advice.
To add to identifying toxicity: If you're struggling with interpersonal stuff it can be worth it to read through your past conversations and try to identify how, what, and why you are communicating, which can be three very different things.
For example, we had a member in a server that had opinions that I thought were often interesting and well researched. Unfortunately the way she would communicate was extremely aggressively and combatative, talking down to whoever she was in the chat with, and would enter casual conversations on topics as mundane as toothpaste and turn them into hostile debates. What she communicated was fine, but how she communicated drove people away, and her reason for communicating seemed to be that she was there to start and win fights, maybe to use people as an outlet.
Counterexample is a person I saw get kicked out of a small server. They were great at friendly conversation, but then started to defend some conservative rhetoric under pretext of ignorance. They eventually tried to manipulate people into gifting them things. How they were communicating was technically socially acceptable, but what they communicated was toxic af, and their reason for communicating was selfish and manipulative.
Idk how helpful this kind of rigid framework is for your context, and of course there are times when being disagreeable in a chat is the right choice. If you're being disagreeable towards wankers like dakk then by all means carry on.

tl:dr yea u should touch grass

at the risk of sounding condescending or otherwise generic, i want to tell you that i think its good that youre reflecting on this behavior. at a basic level i'd recommend finding a counselor or therapist (NOT betterhelp, that company sucks), if your financial situation allows for it. i am not a therapist, but i think the other anon had some good advice and i can try to give you some as well. follow them or not, i'm just some random anon on a drama site lmao.
first, i'd say you should think about why you feel like you find yourself in situations with toxic people, and think about why you engage with them. im not looking for you to answer these questions, but i'd recommend thinking about:
- why do you feel the need to engage with them? does it feel fun/stimulating/justified/something else? do you think other people feel the same way when they see you do this?
- why do you stay in spaces with people you think are toxic, or generally people who are often criticized on drama spaces?
- why do you feel like you don't fit in in any spaces on the internet other than niche drama-centric servers?
if you feel as though you will inherently bring toxicity to other servers, i'd recommend making a journal, text doc, or even a private discord server with only yourself. whenever you feel the need to rant/call out/criticize someone, write down those thoughts in that private space and then - importantly - move on. make it as ranty as you want, because it's getting those negative thoughts out of your head instead of instigating a fight. in the long run you'd probably want to wean off those immediate aggressive thoughts, but this can help curb some behaviors that you think are toxic.
try to find a hobby or IRL group that gets you physically engaged. apps like iNaturalist and pokemon go can give you a reason to do stuff outside and makes you more aware of all the stuff going on in the world around you. see if there's any low-key clubs or organizations in your area, like a cooking club, birdwatching group, or maybe even a zoom book club. if those social groups aren't viable, you can still turn it into a solo hobby - find something that you think is fun, and give yourself little goals (eg. try making a new recipe a week, research and try to find a new local animal every weekend, etc).
with that in mind, i do think that there are absolutely spaces on the internet that you can find comfort in even if you feel like you'll never fully fit in. with my above recommendation to find an engaging hobby, i'd also recommend trying to tie that in with some sort of online community dedicated to that hobby, even if its just posting photos on reddit of cool bugs you saw. you don't need to do this with the intention of making deep conversation, but being a part of a community - even if its just on some surface level to talk about bugs - could help satisfy your need for connection.
obviously i don't know your whole deal, ive just read one post by you, so i apologize if any of my comments came across as condescending or overly simplistic. i do wish you the best, nonny.

Sand looks great, definitely feels like sand.
Salt looks like snow to me.
Gravel looks more like pepper to me than gravel.
The grains are just too fine on salt and gravel IMO, gravel especially. It's not a big deal and I will literally never see these enough to give a shit, but it is a little strange to make an update but only actually improve 1 of the 3 items as far as coherency.

We don't know that the op skipped contacting the artist to post here instead. Two separate people publicly asked on the thread on July 02 and 09 for updates, and that's only what's visible in public -- it's quite possible that other people PMed the artist directly rather than posting in public (or PMed, waited, and THEN posted in public). A third user then publicly posted on the 10th stating they'd requested a refund, so at least 3 people were affected by this, meaning AT LEAST two people who weren't the OP and tried to contact the artist. (Again, not including anyone who contacted them privately.)
If a buyer has paid, contacts an artist for an update, hears nothing from them, and then goes to an anon community to ask "Hey, anyone gotten something from this person? I'm kinda worried," that's a very different scenario from a buyer skipping contacting the artist and instead going to the anon community saying, "ArtistName ghosted/scammed me!" There's a wholly different tone, and one of them may have done due diligence first as well.
I wouldn't call these half-based accusations so much as "buyer's anxiety" -- which is totally fair, especially when real-life money is involved, the artist has zero examples of completed commissions, their social media profiles are dead or deleted, and they've seemingly dropped all communication (at least publicly).
I would still give them the benefit of the doubt since their cited reason was hospital bills and that's the kind of thing that can DEFINITELY impact art availability (and RL absolutely should come first), but I think it's also totally understandable to see why someone would worry and come to an anon community to be like, "Hey, anyone had any luck with this person before? Am I worrying needlessly?"

SA as above
I went to go back and look at the thread, and it seems that princecats may actually just be shady as all hell.
1) A user on the thread posted ( http://web.archive.org/web/20230711144449/https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/art/3243357/13 -- last post on that page) that had problems with poor communication and follow-through with princecats, and who only received a WIP after starting to investigate PC off-site, and then nothing afterward.
2) That same user posted a link to a Beware PSA about PC on TH ( https://toyhou.se/~forums/5867.service-reviews/331540.catvillain-repeated-commission-non-delivery ) where a user encountered radio silence until posting the PSA (at which point they were offered a refund within 5 minutes). On that PSA, there are 5+ other users that have had problems with this same person. (The reason that princecats' TH link on their profile is dead is because they've changed their usernames multiple times since, apparently linked to the timing of PSAs/etc.)
3) Only after this all was made public was princecats suddenly and abruptly available again to comment within 30 minutes of the user from the above two bullet points. ( http://web.archive.org/web/20230711144530/https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/art/3243357/14 )
=======================================
So it certainly seems like princecats has a history of not fulfilling commissions and instead stalling/delaying until they're called out, then immediately doing the bare minimum possible to get it all to go away, before then doing the exact same thing over again, possibly in a different location/commission place. If I was the OP, I'd be extremely skeptical at this point, because while it's certainly not guaranteed there's a fire, there's enough smoke to look extremely suspicious and worrying.

Well the person who was first doing that appeared to come back and change their name. I've always had a bad feeling the original perpetrator was honestly a really rich multi-ring too, and if that's the case they could be using other accounts to intimidate Vinid at this point. Really gross it is still happening though.
