We don't know that the op skipped contacting the artist to post here instead. Two separate people publicly asked on the thread on July 02 and 09 for updates, and that's only what's visible in public -- it's quite possible that other people PMed the artist directly rather than posting in public (or PMed, waited, and THEN posted in public). A third user then publicly posted on the 10th stating they'd requested a refund, so at least 3 people were affected by this, meaning AT LEAST two people who weren't the OP and tried to contact the artist. (Again, not including anyone who contacted them privately.)
If a buyer has paid, contacts an artist for an update, hears nothing from them, and then goes to an anon community to ask "Hey, anyone gotten something from this person? I'm kinda worried," that's a very different scenario from a buyer skipping contacting the artist and instead going to the anon community saying, "ArtistName ghosted/scammed me!" There's a wholly different tone, and one of them may have done due diligence first as well.
I wouldn't call these half-based accusations so much as "buyer's anxiety" -- which is totally fair, especially when real-life money is involved, the artist has zero examples of completed commissions, their social media profiles are dead or deleted, and they've seemingly dropped all communication (at least publicly).
I would still give them the benefit of the doubt since their cited reason was hospital bills and that's the kind of thing that can DEFINITELY impact art availability (and RL absolutely should come first), but I think it's also totally understandable to see why someone would worry and come to an anon community to be like, "Hey, anyone had any luck with this person before? Am I worrying needlessly?"
I went to go back and look at the thread, and it seems that princecats may actually just be shady as all hell.
1) A user on the thread posted ( http://web.archive.org/web/20230711144449/https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/art/3243357/13 -- last post on that page) that had problems with poor communication and follow-through with princecats, and who only received a WIP after starting to investigate PC off-site, and then nothing afterward.
2) That same user posted a link to a Beware PSA about PC on TH ( https://toyhou.se/~forums/5867.service-reviews/331540.catvillain-repeated-commission-non-delivery ) where a user encountered radio silence until posting the PSA (at which point they were offered a refund within 5 minutes). On that PSA, there are 5+ other users that have had problems with this same person. (The reason that princecats' TH link on their profile is dead is because they've changed their usernames multiple times since, apparently linked to the timing of PSAs/etc.)
3) Only after this all was made public was princecats suddenly and abruptly available again to comment within 30 minutes of the user from the above two bullet points. ( http://web.archive.org/web/20230711144530/https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/art/3243357/14 )

So it certainly seems like princecats has a history of not fulfilling commissions and instead stalling/delaying until they're called out, then immediately doing the bare minimum possible to get it all to go away, before then doing the exact same thing over again, possibly in a different location/commission place. If I was the OP, I'd be extremely skeptical at this point, because while it's certainly not guaranteed there's a fire, there's enough smoke to look extremely suspicious and worrying.

To clarify -- catvillain (PSA)/ruinedmedic (current username)/catgf (listed TH on profile) are all the same singular TH user. Princecats lists "catgf" as their toyhouse account on their profile, which a quick google of "catgf toyhouse" then brings up a commission page of another artist who s catgf, but you can see the reply they've responded to is posted by the user currently named ruinedmedic. Additionally, on the TH PSA page, there's a report link (which goes by user number not username and bypasses username changes) which shows the current ruinedmedic (as tied to catvillain).
