Art Updates

I might be the odd one out big time with this take but I really wish they'd not update old artwork (the most recent example being the sand, gravel and salt update).

I guess I just need to face the fact that the site is moving toward a new art style that I don't really like. Bleh.

I agree they are kind of pretty, but to be honest, they don't really look like what they are meant to be anymore. Well, sand does, but gravel and salt don't.

Salt looks like a cleaner pile of salt now. I've seen salt piles of both table and rock salt. It looks closer to rock salt than the salt we use for food.

I don't see the big deal. It didn't look like salt before to me.

To me, it just looks like white sand.

Yeah, it didn't look like salt before, but they could have fixed that with this art update, to make it look less like just recolored sand and more like salt.

Sand looks great, definitely feels like sand.
Salt looks like snow to me.
Gravel looks more like pepper to me than gravel.

The grains are just too fine on salt and gravel IMO, gravel especially. It's not a big deal and I will literally never see these enough to give a shit, but it is a little strange to make an update but only actually improve 1 of the 3 items as far as coherency.

AYRT (I think, sometimes the way dreamwidth does comments confuses me)

I completely agree.

Gravel is way too fine, and the salt doesn't really look like crystals of salt, but sand.

But, as you said, I will likely never pay attention to these items and don't really care about them. I just wish that they had made gravel and salt a bit more distinctive, regardless of whether they are meant to be 'paired' with sand.
