"way more worth it to enter" and then august and mv decided to go through the submissions and just not pay the promised amount if they decided your skin wasn't earth enough. i know a lot of people who they claimed weren't actually trying and don't make skins anymore because they found that demoralizing...

I have no way of judging what happened there because I didn't know anyone who entered. However, the outcome of two players running something doesn't mean it's not a good lesson for FR staff, who can be a lot more consistent in how they hand out entry prizes/incentives!

of course they were going to filter out the entries that were just trying to enter for a quick buck? I've never seen so much backlash to a giveaway where they ended up giving 80kg of their own money plus sprite prizes. the entitlement is insane. they've talked multiple times about how they hatred they received in response to a nice event they were trying to run for the community put them off doing anything like that again ever. myth literally received anon harassment for this

ayrt, every single person i know did not, in fact, try to enter for a quick buck. at least four of them took inspiration directly from the moodboards and resources that mv and august offered, only to be told they weren't good enough. its not entitlement when someone says you will get this, no strings attached, no qualifiers, if you put in some minimum effort and then when you do put in effort they tell you you didn't. that's the shit that makes people stop creating, and it's rich of them to act all benevolent about it

So, can we get some proof? If they were refusing to pay people for good entries, I want to see what they refused to pay out for. Every time I see this claim, no one actually backs it up.

until I see otherwise, I'm believing they had good reasons. both of them are richer than midas, why would they arbitrarily refuse to pay out 500g to spite people?

also, while many of the images are broken because of discord hosting, you yourself can look through the contest thread. there are just not that many entries that would merit disqualification unless they were equating less skilled artists with putting in less effort

i'm not linking their skin because i don't want to expose them. you can look through the thread for the many entries based on opalized fossils and decide if any don't seem earthy enough to you, though.

Just baffled now that screenshots have been posted how "sorry, your entry wasn't on theme enough, here's 100g for participating, thank you anyway" was turned into "MV and august claimed my artist friends weren't actually trying at all because it didnt fit their personal aesthetic". Wild stuff, y'all.

sa. if your stated goal is to encourage more people to make skins, having some of the most popular and well-known artists telling you you didn't try hard enough for their liking accomplishes the literal opposite. the 100g is a slap to the face.

no, actually! they're not supposed to provide feedback when the feedback comes in the form of "i told you everyone would get this, but we decided you weren't good enough" because that's being a fucking dick and expecting that because you're popular you can get away with it! be honest, if someone followed the moodboards, visual inspiration, and theming ideas they outlined in their contest thread, put time and effort into the work, and submitted the skin both to the fest contest thread and to their contest thread, why do they get to arbitrarily change the rules, in private, after the deadline? because it's their money that they offered, explicitly, to new artists with no strings attached other than "please try" ?? my friends did try. they researched, they found references, they looked at old fest skins, and they were proud of what they submitted, only to be told it wasn't good enough for "all you need to do is try to make an earth flight themed skin" and that is how you kill people's confidence and interest in creating.

How on earth were the rules changed in private? In the imgur album you linked yourself, they made an announcement in public on the thread pinging every participant that they'd be judging the entries without any name or description context. The fact that your friend's entry was based off an opalizing fossils picture wouldn't have been obvious I guess? Again, I still think you should just post your friends entries that were rejected and let us judge for ourselves whether they should have been disqualified or not.

I know it sucks being rejected but it sounds like more people need to learn that it doesn't mean someone doesn't personally hate you or has a vendetta against you, it just means it didn't fit what they were looking for.
