of course they were going to filter out the entries that were just trying to enter for a quick buck? I've never seen so much backlash to a giveaway where they ended up giving 80kg of their own money plus sprite prizes. the entitlement is insane. they've talked multiple times about how they hatred they received in response to a nice event they were trying to run for the community put them off doing anything like that again ever. myth literally received anon harassment for this

ayrt, every single person i know did not, in fact, try to enter for a quick buck. at least four of them took inspiration directly from the moodboards and resources that mv and august offered, only to be told they weren't good enough. its not entitlement when someone says you will get this, no strings attached, no qualifiers, if you put in some minimum effort and then when you do put in effort they tell you you didn't. that's the shit that makes people stop creating, and it's rich of them to act all benevolent about it

So, can we get some proof? If they were refusing to pay people for good entries, I want to see what they refused to pay out for. Every time I see this claim, no one actually backs it up.

until I see otherwise, I'm believing they had good reasons. both of them are richer than midas, why would they arbitrarily refuse to pay out 500g to spite people?

also, while many of the images are broken because of discord hosting, you yourself can look through the contest thread. there are just not that many entries that would merit disqualification unless they were equating less skilled artists with putting in less effort

my brother they didnt reject compensation for being a beginner artist its because its something that isnt part of the onsite earth theme are you dumb

i'm not linking their skin because i don't want to expose them. at least 10 people who are also artists strongly disagreed with it somehow not being earth themed. it just didn't match august and mv's personal aesthetics, so they decided that meant it wasnt earthy enough.

DA, but without seeing the skin I have to assume 888 and mv were right and the skin wouldn't be immediately recognizable as themed for the earth flight. Shrug.

I get that but without seeing the skin then it's impossible to judge whether or not they were right to reject it. Besides your phrasing made it sound like they scammed a bunch of people but it looks like the rejected entries still got some compensation which seems fair to me.

Then, without real evidence, I side with the contest runners. You have an opportunity. If there's that many alsely rejected pick a bunch and you're not deanonning anyone.

i'm not linking their skin because i don't want to expose them. you can look through the thread for the many entries based on opalized fossils and decide if any don't seem earthy enough to you, though.

I could believe it's the one on page 21 with how it's just rainbow colours on a wildclaw wing, but the sandsurge or the spiral are looking the most likely since they are directly opalization/fossilized based in the descriptions. Again though... in the announcement, they said they judge the images without name or backstory context the way that the staff does.

Oh there’s an m ridgeback entry on page 15 that doesn’t mention opal anything BUT features prehistoric marine critters (like ammonites) that appear… alive with like kelp n stuff, potentially underwater, not fossilized stone as might have been intended. This looks like a water entry, not earth.

It might be this one too. The image linked in the CR is of a fossilized ammonite, and this one is said to he based off a fossilized ammonite. This one is more earth themed, I suppose, but at first glance I'd assume it's for Thundercrack. I'm no expert though

That spiral Opaliidae is gorgeous, but it looks like metal armor to me, not opal. Maybe because it's so dark.

This is the part that gets me. Like... they disqualified the entry for not being compliant with canon Flight Rising Earth themes, but they still provided a prize for participating. That's above what they needed to do.
