My biggest question, is with the list of what AC has, how are they still alive?
I mean, since I have first heard of them, it seems like they have been actively dying.
Just to state, I am not trying to be mean, I wish that they didn't have to go through what ever they are going through, I wish that no one had to go through bad times.
But, just about every post from them is about how they can't pay for medicine, they can't pay for medical treatment, they are homeless, they are living with abusers, they are actively dying if they don't get donations, and has been since I first noticed them. (which has to be a couple of years now)
both with those facts and ac's attitude i'm genuinely starting to feel like they're a compulsive liar, of some sort, or just a grifter. i don't have a link on hand but in one of the previous posts someone dug up their amazon wishlist, or something of that sort, where you could buy them stuff. the only useful things on there was overpriced bougie CBD oil (there probably was a cheaper alternative to it, i'm not knowledgeable on that) and something labeled as "groceries". other stuff was just expensive commodities like crystals, mirrors, fursuits, ffxiv cosmetics, etc.
not to imply poor people can't treat themselves obviously but with ac's eternal state of "i'm homeless pregnant and balding freezing to death in the snow" and them saying they can't afford groceries/meds/whatever it seems pointless to have something like that up.
prefacing this with an "i dont know AC so i cant know for certain" but ive known people who behave similarly, albeit to significantly LESSER degrees, and a lot of the complaints/criticisms/concerns are based in a crumb of truth but then extrapolated into something so big its basically a lie. like "i didnt get as many tips as i was expecting at work" -> "my boss is scamming me so im taking him to court", or "someone left a slightly critical comment on my art" -> "there is a targeted campaign to silence me."
i definitely dont doubt that AC is experiencing struggles, in some way. i certainly see what looks like patterns of mental illness/struggle, and they've said as much themselves. but given how they (over?)react to a lot of things it really makes me doubt.png about the more serious things they claim. theyve been threatening imminent medical-related death for... many years now, if im not mistaken. the stress of keeping up that mindset is probably doing more damage than anything else.
at the absolute bare minimum i don't think its an unfair statement to say that they need to seriously reconsider their finances if they solely rely on guilt-tripping donations to supposedly stay alive in increasingly perilous conditions, while also pissing away money on videogames and luxury goods.
so their carrd says they have "Emotional Intensity Disorder" but when i Google that i just get results for Borderline Personality Disorder??
i think that explains a lot, in terms of how they talk about things. and if they're unable to afford treatment/therapy and their day to day life is genuinely unstable, and that exacerbates their mental illness, etc., yeah they're in a fucked situation. sorry for them & their struggles.
their carrd also says "People who police how we attain or spend money are ableist, classist concern trolls and will not be tolerated. Accusing us of being a "scammer" is ignorant and inherently bigoted."
"People who police how we attain or spend money are ableist, classist concern trolls and will not be tolerated. Accusing us of being a "scammer" is ignorant and inherently bigoted."
"We are a former 4channer from the early 2000's."
Lol, lmao, why is it always 4channer types who wrap their shitty behavior under this "woke" framing in an attempt to gaslight others. They are not fooling anybody.
Well, in all my time of browsing the 'net/forums, I have known someone similar to AC/PE. Granted, it hasn't been so long (at most 10 years) and I touch social media every blue moon, so my experience is quite small in interactions with... eccentric users.
It's scary how similar they are, but more scary is that due to certain mannerisms and interests AC is a completely different person than the one I knew before. I wonder if they also have an account with an alterego that spends all day hurling obscenities and death threats? It would not surprise me tbh.
The wishlist is on their twitch, not hard to find: https://throne.com/astralcrescent
I don't know what to say about this. It may be just me, but I think if I were literally actively dying of illness and too impoverished to access the internet, I'd be ashamed to ask for a $657 custom fursuit, pages of jewelry, and subscription-based premium game currency on the same page I ask for groceries. Yes, there is a $657 custom fursuit.
there's something about astral saying they're on the verge of homelessness and being unable to afford groceries and then going, quote, "pwease i actually need like 6 of these for alts theyre so expensive" @ a 25$ piece of virtual clothes
ehhh, i mean. it's a yellow flag for sus, imo. not a red flag.
even in the context of "regularly too poor to afford food/meds" i could understand maintaining a wishlist of feel-good items that would make you happy, and leaving it accessible for people to fulfill because, y'know, it's nice to have nice things even when everything is going to shit? you can still receive & appreciate gifts when you're in dire straits. (otoh if i were at risk of homelessness again, which it seems like they maybe are??? i would probably take the decor stuff off but keep things like nice blankets or cute clothes, as those would still be useful when homeless.)
i could also understand not wanting to "let go" of it from an emotional standpoint, like, getting rid of all the nice fun non-essential things and going down to the barest essentials on your wishlist could almost feel like giving up on the chance of joy in little non-essential things in life. when getting out of these situations, you have to have goals that aren't just the necessities. you need pleasant things to aim for and enjoy.
if they were actively dying i could also understand it in like, a make-a-wish kind of way? like "i'm dying anyway so i'd rather spend $700 on a custom fursuit to enjoy as i rapidly waste away." in the same way that people blow money on all sorts of things when death is genuinely imminent. but that doesn't seem to be their vibe lol they're not "fuck it, we ball" actively dying, they're "somebody save me" actively dying
No one here is saying poor people cannot have nice things or small joys. The cruel, guilt-tripping behavior that AstralCrescent is exhibiting is specifically tied to money and clearly feeling that they are owed other people's money. Because of that, the selection of items demonstrates the disingenuous nature of the entire endeavor. It's a scam, plain and simple.
This doesn't read as a wishlist from someone who is homeless. There's a chance they could be couch surfing with someone who allows them to setup their own space. (Seriously? A plug in mug warmer and generic fake crystals for your witchblr alter?) I 100% believe this person is a scammer who's time online has had a severe impact on their mental illness. I hope they find peace in their therapy treatments and can someday realize that the entire world isn't their enemy.
You can tell folks think their list is bs, too, considering no one has bought anything for them.
I've lived out of my car multiple times, but I sure wasn't bitching about pixel dragons and wanting a fursuit- I wanted a fucking BED and food that was actually cooked instead of eating shit straight out of a can while trying to keep my and my pet warm in 10 degree weather and trying not to sleep too long, lest a cop catch me loitering.
(Which is why I feel no pity for AC, only contempt.)
"they're a compulsive liar, of some sort, or just a grifter" I'm surprised how people seem to believe and pity them when everything to points to this lol, plus their extremely childish behavior in general.
They claim that they are completely alone and have no family and friends because they all left them to die in this and several other Ko-Fi posts(1), but make later posts(2) claiming that their mother (who is now apparently in a coma) went to the hospital and that they need money for the bill and that their father also died (on Christmas no less). Allegedly their father provided financial support and their mom lived with them. This isn't even including their sister winterlywitch who has taken to speaking on their behalf at times, the fact that the fundraiser for their cat was set up by a friend (3), another friend from FR who trades with them (4), and a partner (5). So they're all alone and abandoned but also have people who have provided them both financial and emotional support? Something's not adding up.
I also believe they had posts on their Ko-Fi requesting donations for a photoshop license because it was the only art program that did not trigger their migraines (they even posted a screenshot of an email as proof that they spent the money on the license), but then made later posts requesting donations for other art programs (Medibang maybe, but I can't remember specifically). I believe they've deleted their posts, but you can find the photoshop post archived on their tumblr astral_crescent (6), which conveniently has been wiped. Their Ko-Fi has also been archived several times but I can't make it work for me (7).
This isn't even including their various (and oftentimes rare) medical problems which in a vacuum generally wouldn't arouse my suspicion, but the fact that they claim they have all these mental and physical health issues combined with their overall behavior makes me take them with a huge grain of salt. There's probably a kernel of truth that's been greatly exaggerated imo.
I appreciate that you laid it all out like this but honestly to figure out they're a liar you literally only need the one line of their bio.
"We are a professionally diagnosed plural system."
1. There is no professionally recognized diagnostic criteria for plural systems that would result in plurality being listed in someone's medical records.
2. Even if there was, you're not getting it in fucking Texas.
I'm not commenting on people who are forced to self-diagnose because healthcare in America is a travesty, so I hope no one interprets it that way. The "professionally diagnosed" lie is what I'm pointing at.
legit has anyone ever sent all this to the FR devs? and maybe the Tumblr devs while they're at it.
i know most times behavior off-site isn't actionable but i have a hard time believing FR is okay with such an obvious grifter on their minor-friendly website.
like seriously what if they were to berate or otherwise guilt-trip a minor into using their parent's credit card or something? scammers shouldn't be knowingly allowed on a website with children on it.
Something that bothers me in the same vein as this is how AC constantly goes on and on about how they never receive any help, and have been actively murdered by the people in their life and the general public, but when you actually look at the aid they've received from the internet, it's some of the most I've seen online in a casual, non-org backed setting??
At absolute bare minimum, they've received at least ~$19,000 USD in aid from the general public over the last 2 or so years.... that's an absolutely insane amount of money to get from the internet and it's quite frankly appalling to see them acting like they do when they've received that level of financial aid from people with no obligation to them.
I didn't really want to say it, but honestly I have wondered this as well.
Like, maybe there is something there, but I just get suspicious of people constantly pushing for other people to donate to them. (and this is definitely not just related to AC, this is pretty much anyone who is constantly putting 'donate to me!', especially with a sob story attached, all over and pushing it constantly)
i think it's both, grifter + liar but i do think there is some truth to their poverty claims, but i do think they sometimes exaggerate.
full on will admit that i browse AC's blog occasionally. mostly because they're always saying how they're literally going to die if no one gives them money (going on several years of saying this now) and it's gotten to be kind of entertaining. last year they were saying if they didn't get 500 dollars for a medication they would die, i think it's funny how they'll just stop mentioning these very specific things that they need money for. and then of course they don't die, despite claiming they will within days if no donations.
AC lies a LOT or will not mention certain facts unless absolutely necessary. for instance, a few months back they were begging for money to pay their overdue internet bill. during this, they mentioned that their partner will lose their job if the internet is turned off. i found that mention hilarious if only because i feel like AC will act like there is absolutely no money coming in so they NEED your donations. i also thought this internet bill reveal was interesting, given that they appear to be on a package including TV (not necessarily a problem). however they state that they already returned the equipment and are still being charged... like ok... are you... doing anything about that? it's a good 160 bucks a month... https://www.tumblr.com/disposable-cellophane-dolls/772715603755712512
someone else mentioned the whole asking for money so they could buy a medibang/photoshop license, and that's another thing that bugs me. AC constantly brags about being older than everyone else and knowing all the old school shit that these young losers don't know. PIRATE. IT. holy shit, even with a job i typically won't buy some of the big name art programs because they're so overpriced. it's piss easy to find a cracked download.
another anon from a different ARR thread a while back pointed out how they have tons of money put into FFXIV due to boosted characters, and that's not cheap alongside paying that monthly subscription (whenever they have it active anyway). having a hell of a time trying to find this one, if i do i'll reply with a link OTL
AND LISTEN OKAY i wouldn't be this critical of anyone other than AC. please know it's so many things about AC that leads me to have these opinions about their actions regarding money. if they weren't such a nasty, lying piece of work i probably would feel a lot more empathy and be giving a lot more charitability to their posts.
What also gets me is they constantly claim that nobody they live with has a job... yet here they are saying that they need the internet specifically for their partner's job. Like, please, make it make sense.
mildly off-topic, but you'll be surprised how long can people be "actively dying" - my grandmother is close to dying... or at least that's what she's been telling everyone for close to sixty years now, yet, somehow (/s), she's still alive, moving, breathing and doing reasonably well considering her age
AYRT (I think, I go through in flat view, so don't always know who replies to who)
Oh, I know, My mother told me she was hoping to make it to my High school graduation, and that was in 1999. She lived until 2019.
I remember a movie, called the Wrong Box, where one of the main characters told his 'cousin' that his grandfather was dying, and she was all sympathetic until he said 'oh, no worries, he has been dying for years!'
