one person doesn't make a sore loser, besides they worked hard I think anyone would be disappointed if it was their flight. not agreeing that it was an earth ratio issue though, it could've gone either way.

what is evenly matched about one flight pushing the entire week from which they SHOULD HAVE had a standing advantage, opening a public buy, ordering mercs all week, and four people can decide in two days to totally cancel that out AND had earth been trying all week, it would've been flipless.

Earth being able to have a handful of loaded players come in and knock off another flight off a profit push on the last day doesn't bode well for their chances of anyone wanting to fight them. The ratios mattered here.

If rufusdrumsknott wanted to get Beastclans off the board, they could have sent more dragons to Wind (their previous flight). My sympathies to the Earth Dom team. This isn't a position they want to be in.

The ratios matter, but ten years of a completely stagnant game meta matters too. I think it's pretty well established that Earth's main advantage is that everyone who cares about exalting moves to earth. Fire has less active players according to the new survey and they're not threatening anyone.

I assumed only dom teams had the contacts to order mercs and have a cute badge at the ready, so even if specific people were funding the purse itself that sounds to me a little more specific than "four random earth flight members."

also "thousands" like 5kg or "thousands" like 50kg, because there is a big difference when we are talking on the scale of funding dom!

i ask partially for curiosity reasons; partially because it hits different if it was in fact a couple earth wealthy randos and not earthdom itself likewise doing an "ok but what if we DID conquest push though—" thing at the eleventh hour.

gonna have to percolate a bit on how i feel about this one
i was excited for our spur-of-the-moment tussle with earth, not with...... four people with deep pockets. so even if those users are worried it makes earth look bad or something, i'd actually be really happy to hear if their initiative ended up getting less-wealthy earth flight folks also enthusiastically participating!

(regardless, though, the numbers they're citing are indeed very real levels of dragoncash to be tossing around, even on a dom scale, whew! thanks @ rich earth flight users for your sacrifice to the FR economy. 🫡)

As someone in earth, here's the thing: there were four users with deep pockets, but they were buying a lot of mercs FROM EARTH (and other flights, but mostly Earth and Fire). Light WAS pushing against Earth, but the incentive for those pebbles levelling and exalting was provided by four users with deep pockets instead of the official dom team itself.

Which is pretty much what an 'official' organized push looks like anyway, except replace the four rich users with the dom bank. It was pretty much an internal public buy with private citizen funds.

NAYRT I'm having issues with Wayback Machine rn. rufusdrumknott (who moved to Earth from Wind) said on the Dom Watch thread that they and three other people in Earth ordered mercs to flip Beastclans. They said they were out 50kg from the effort. However, they kept on going after they flipped Beastclans, which also made things harder for Wind to place 3rd.

While I'm glad the participating flights mostly had a good time, I don't envy the spot that Earth Dom is in. This was a reckless decision and a hit to the good relations Earth has worked hard to maintain over the years.

I'm saying bullshit: they couldn't have spent 50kg to flip.

Reason: math. Assuming the worst case - exalting hatchlings - one hatchling is a loss of about 4-5g, which means that the so-called 50kg loss is 10-13k exalted hatchlings and dragonomics chart don't show any spike in hatchling price. If you count level 5 dragons as the exalted population, that's a similar loss (assuming ~10-12kt/g price per merc dragon). If they were so stupid as to exalt level 1 adults, that's about 7k dragons which is also reasonably far away from reality. They could have used about 50kg but the actual loss shouldn't have been bigger than 10-15kg - or they truly suck at spending money.

Why the hell would they be buying and exalting hatchlings?
50000g x 1000t / 13000t per levelled dragon they were buying as mercs = 3846 dragons. They could easily have bought 3846 dragons as a merc and exalted them.

The vast majority of the earth community was in fact behind the levelling and exalting this push and were actively exalting on their own. It just wasn't officially called an Earthdom effort, because none of the leads had the time to come up with something official on the very last day.

💯💯💯 to all of this. it wasn't just rich users buying dom, it was rich users running their own push as a group effort.

genuinely, i hope we see more of this from other flights as well, as the meta desperately needs something to change. there is a lot of pressure on dom leads to organize stuff like this, but for whatever reason in some flights the leads are not willing or able (or maybe the non-leads just want to do something! there's no reason it HAS to go through the leads). if small groups of users can fundraise and pull off small battles like this more frequently... that would be amazing.

i am SO over the hyper negotiated calcified dom calendar. IMO all pushes except for fests (and maybe like, the few times a year weaker dom flights do PBs for 1st) should be fair game. no one is OWED a certain week! coli and exalting is boring af without these stakes!
