Yeah, raid mechanics in FR would be a thing that would make me drop the site and not come back. That is the road to maximum burnout.
I think FR is also developing enough of an older playerbase that they're really considering people's time more. If a bunch of people got into the site in 2017/2018/2019, those people now have a good chance of being out of college, working full-time jobs, having families, etc. They also now have more potential expendable income. IMO having a site that allows someone with a busy schedule to at least be able to do some minimum things is nice, not to mention that it makes the site more accessible for people who can't spend as much time due to physical disability.

Oh bless. Poor mousemod's just like "I am not in the headspace to moderate this discussion today".
Agreed.
I took a hiatus before Undertides, and I remember how badly people were saying they wanted a noodle/eel ancient. They wanted a no legs/arms design! I come back after Undertides. I'm pretty sure that the last time I checked the dragon search there were more Sandsurges than Undertides - and those are gem gene dragons.
Generic sells. Super niche designs don't, not as well.

Frankly, this is how I feel.
Yes, I would like more diverse designs, based off of different species of animals etc.. but, I get the feeling some of these people who are complaining (not singling anyone out, just a general feeling) wouldn't be happy with anything that wasn't something like an eldritch horror, or was exactly to their tastes.
(as an example, most people point to snappers as being a 'fat' or 'chunky' dragon, and I saw someone point out that to them, snappers don't fit, because they are 80% muscle)
Again, more diverse body shapes and designs would be nice, but I do feel that some of the people complaining are being too nitpicky/wouldn't be happy with anything even slightly different than their vision.
Beyond that, I feel that some people need to learn that it is okay to quit playing a game when it no longer appeals to you. I know that struggle. It can be hard to quit, especially when you have sunk much of your time and energy into it, and you have fond memories. I am still clinging to neopets, though my grasp is getting weaker.
But, I have also quit games that have redesigned their art to where it doesn't appeal to me anymore, even though I personally loved the gameplay aspects of those games.

Agreed. More diverse designs would absolutely be nice, but it's okay to admit yiu don't like the site style. I also disagree that banescales have same face - the skull arches noticeably higher than a lot of the other long-faces ancients, and that itself is still a head shape difference. Also, not going to lie, as someone who makes my dragons into OCs I don't like Undertides because they feel pigeonholed to certain parts of my lore *and* I like that the poses show breed differences but NOT an overt breed personality, since that means I can make any breed any personality I want. I actually disliked the way DnD used to characterize its races with specific moral alignments for that reason. There's a difference between culture and giving everyone in a certain species a certain personality type.

I think it's definitely possible to make a sea serpent without locking them to water, but honestly part of my issue with Undertidesis their canon lore (abd the awkward af wings compared to body, like...). Undertides just didn't really pull that off to me. Dusthides are a miss for me design wise so I don't keep them, but they actually feel like they could turn up in any elemental territory when one of tge big draws is "any breed can be anywhere, you can have whatever lair you want." Not sure if I'm making sense.

This is a post I enjoy on the diverse body shapes - not copying the house style but I can see these designs in it & op takes the square canvas restriction/having space for linebreaking stuff into account!

Are those diverse? They're just neopets-ified.
The thing is, you could add actual gameplay to the event without punishing any players who don't have time to play it. Adding an optional way to "grind" for items to donate (without touching dumb coli) would make it a more memorable and unique event. And users who can only grab one item from Pinkerton to donate still get the same rewards as users who want something more fun to do.
Yup. I know Snappers and Bogsneaks have their fans, but you don't see them in lairs nearly as often as the "conventionally attractive" breeds for whatever that definition is worth. If I was part of the dev team, I sure wouldn't take the risk of releasing a controversial breed as a modern. You want to please as many people as possible with those.
Though I also think they can and should go wilder with the ancient designs - those are frequent enough that everyone can get their fill.

What other site activities would you add drops to? Right now you can get them from 4/5s of the trading post, bonding with dragons, breeding dragons, gathering, etc. Coli is the only real current game mechanic with the sort of infinite repeatability that allows for ‘grinding’. Which is kinda the point - it lets players who can’t/don’t want to use Coli fully participate in the event rewards. The site’s not currently set up for anything else. We know they are working on more mechanics (adventure mode), but it’s not complete yet, so they’re not releasing it.
I think she asked for one once? But that was a while ago because I stopped doing crim after I realized I'd gotten into the habit of just clicking yes, too much risk.

A wholly new mechanic is what I mean. Even something simple and text-based would be more interesting than no new gameplay at all.

Dusthides would have been totally redeemed if they got this particular design. Holy s***.
Osuem's redesigns are nice AF too.

Diverse compared to FR baseline, imo, the heads ehh not really but these are body shapes I could see being done in the house style.
I wish those mothdragons would have been aethers and the stockier dragons dusthides, they would have been perfect. Different body shapes always look so much more refreshing than your standard FR noodle base design.
Absolutely, 100% this. I can't stand bakugames's redesigns for this reason. If they had some self awareness about being niche it'd feel different.
The people who whine about fat dragons and ugly dragons can call me when they're pumping out art and hatcheries and UMAs for bogs and snaps, because right now those are two breeds supposedly up their alley, that I love, that I see absolutely nothing for. Put your dragon money where your dragon mouth is.

Literally. I'm looking at those like oh wow I'll never complain about a flat faced dragon again
giveaway threads really bring out the worst in FR's reading comprehension
(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)I hosted a giveaway that is explicitly labeled CLOSED and despite doing so, people are still responding asking for stuff. Someone literally revived the thread after it had been dead for several days and AFTER I HAD ANNOUNCED I WAS OUT OF STUFF. And then someone asking for something I wasn't even giving away? Reaaaaaally hard to be patient with these people
That thread makes me want to just fill my lair with M Snappers, can't believe that so many people think Bandwagon fallacy is something to stand behind.
I guess if you don't mind your tastes being dictated by the lowest common denominator and taking no risks at all it's no big deal, seems so to the majority and that's all that matters, right?

For clarification, those are not redesigns of any particular breed and are just fan breeds osiem used as demonstration for gene drawing tutorials. They're not intended to have any actual connection to site Ancient designs.
well if it helps, i am aware that its niche, thats why i think theyre better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i thought my whole deal made this pretty obvious
If you quit FR why are you trawling FR salt communities and posting about how bad FR designs are
