I've seen people calling the event mechanic fun. Question for those people. Have you ever played a multiplayer game that isn't flight rising
I'm not discounting that the piecemeal art and writing reveals might be fun, but the item progress bar? To call it "gameplay" is hyperbolic.
I’ve played lots of multiplayer games! But FR seems to be the only multiplayer game ever that is terribly reluctant to make site-wide community-effort events a more common thing.
The dominance system doesn’t count. You would think a game focused on working together for a particular goal would have some more input from the staff. Helldivers type event to fight off the Shade by would’ve rocked

i agree: it's a pretty cut and dry event type. all it really asks of the player is to do basic site functions. while i appreciate them doing something really simple that allows the community to have lives outside of the event, other sites (including ones with smaller teams) have done more engaging events that required active participation and multiple types of activities and steps to solve. those brought communities together by giving us a great variety of subjects that required the entire playerbase's diverse knowledge to work together and solve, and everyone had their own strengths to contribute.
a couple favourites of mine were the 2016 Everything Is Okay gaia online plot that involved tons of alien ciphers we would find using onsite puzzles and off-site knowledge (this was at the end of the worst years for gaia online, when it was practically a skeleton crew due to corporate greed and barely anyone was getting paid), or the classic neopets plots like lost desert or altador when it first released.
it leaves a gap in my heart, but hopefully that's gonna be satisfied sooner than later since neopets is having a new plot coming up in 8 days. at least i don't have to worry about FR

I (and from what I read of the other replies, but i could be wrong) are more agitated by the execution of the post. the whiny impatience is insanely unpalatable to read, which makes for an even worse read when it's the tired "I want g1 imps" complaint that crops up every 5 minutes and has ran its course over the last 11 years.
I get your irritation that Earth got a third breed first and so close to Brightshine. I would never wish a rapidly pushed out ancient on any flight, though, and would be more cool with ancients having bigger gaps between releases to do more wacky things than they have. I feel like earth got shafted a good deal, but that's my own opinion and I'm super biased towards obelisks for being so rad.

hard agree with this! I wonder if there’s a good balance they could strike with combating FOMO for the working/busy players, and still having in depth participation be rewarding. Just spitballing ideas here, but maybe if you put in more effort you can earn multiple copies of the prizes? I think some extra flavor would help a lot too. For example, bonding with familiars helps because it gives you resources, but imagine if bonding was reframed as your familiars helping out with the scouting and it just randomly added a small amount of progress to a bar?
While I don’t disagree with them getting suspended I think FR staff should be mindful of ESL users in these instances. I know a lot of people play using google translate too.

yeah, I agree about ancients in general, I think they need to relax the pace on them. dusthides in particular were a big disappointment for metbh most ancients have disappointed me; I'm one of the people who was hoping for more weird body types.
I don't think the anon we both replied to was really giving off the same "I want a g1 imp" impatient vibe that a different nonny in the thread was, though? imho they just seem impatient to get another Light modern. and wanting Light to get another modern, and being a little chagrined about the fact that it'll take a long time is understandable, to me at least. I don't think they were trying to say that like, Light deserves a modern first or anything (that's something I disagree with), or that staff should hand out g1 imps to everyone (I also disagree with that).

Someone who has trained to use a screenreader here - the fact they couldn't name what program they're using means they're completely bullshitting. Different screen readers work slightly differently, add to that the platdorm differences... even someone using a phone app would need to know- Android needs to download its reader. iOS and Windows do have built in ones, Windows' isn't that great, and then there's other PC ones you have to go deliberately download. One of these is free, others are paid.

You also have to go turn on the built-in ones yourself initially, then you can leave them on. The not-built-in PC ones have a setup wizard. What AnpuRa describes is closest to a phone screen reader, as PC users would be taught to navigate mouseless - again, Android's has to be deliberately downloaded and iOS's announces its name at screen reader start up, and anyone who's been trained on it will have the name of the program repeatedly mentioned by their instructor in my experience with the DVR / blind training.

I think, given Aeq explained it to them and then gave them several chances to drop it, staff is considerate of people maybe not understanding they/them pronouns at first and allows reasonable leniency. But AolS kept pushing back and arguing about it, which is more likely what actually got them locked/suspended in the end.
A confused ESL user would have stopped when it was explained. Staff gave them a fair chance.

Thanks for all this explanation, tbh I've never used a screen reader so I wasn't quite sure about their actual issues but this sort of confirms my assumption that they are being stupid on purpose to get a reaction from people.

dusthides REALLY make me sad, as someone who is a big pangolin lover. my partner showed me a friend's drawing of all the dragon breed heads, and dusthides are so formless that their portrait looked like the base all the other portraits started from. it kinda breaks my heart that it takes tertiaries to give them something that has a more interesting silhouette, since you have to commit so hard to just one tert when maybe you wanted to use something else.
a simple design does have its place, but this one suffers really badly from one-tert syndrome.

I’m going to play Shade’s Advocate here: I actually really appreciate having an event that doesn’t require large amounts of my time and energy. While participating in larger more involved events can be very fun, it’s not something that everyone has the bandwidth for. It can also sometimes feel like having group projects in school - one or two people figure out the clues/solve a puzzle and drag half the site on their backs to get them there.
Ultimately I think the FR staff have chosen options that are supportive of community effort but do not require it. You can, if you choose to, play without ever interacting with another player, or by only interacting with them through the AH. A lot of players prefer not to do that, and that’s ok, but the site is still set up to allow you to do that if you do choose.

oh, i get it! don't get me wrong, i completely understand the frustration of being late to the party, as someone who showed up almost exactly as the opportunity was taken away. i may be frustrated with the tone taken, but you are completely free to be frustrated, because those are your feelings and no one can tell you you're wrong for having your feeling. especially on a place meant to let you bitch and moan about things that are annoying (within reason).
that's why my post covered what we factually know about their approach to adding more breeds per flight instead of needling you for feelings. i did think it best that you relaxed as it seemed in the moment you were way more incensed than i personally believe is proportionate to the situation, but overall, no one can take away your emotions.
