Specifically, they make a lot of money reselling UMs at 2x+ times their value. I respect them as an artist but goddamn their price markups on other artists’ works is over the top. I had to tell someone they overpaid at 3.5kg for one of Ysdaar’s AH listings of a 450g reisiger accent the day after it was reprinted :/

Same, I used to buy whole recolor sets of their skins, but can't afford to anymore. I'm rarely reselling UMAs I buy, so I see no point in paying extra for Ysdaar 'brand' for potential resale value.

Good on them to be able to sell 100 copies at 1500, but I'd rather have 2 skins from someone else even if I have to add some gems.

that's so scummy. 100 copies is 10 whole runs, barely what you'd call "limited". there's always several colors too, and i can see ysdaar is having trouble even selling all 100 copies. what a jerk move, pumping up the original price of your own skin just because there's nowhere else for people to buy.

People can overprice their own skins however they like. If you don't want to buy it for that price then... don't buy it? It's a bad business move imo but Ysdaar is being completely transparent about it. And in this case it's the equivalent of 15 bucks, big whoop. 🙄

oh don't worry, i'm not buying it :P i'm not accusing him of being opaque either. but i can think it's an asshole move to completely eschew the market standards of a skin's printing price out of sheer greed

He's not being an asshole/scummy by overpricing his own work, he's just being dumb. Nobody owes you their work at "market standards".

Yeah idk how I feel about the person who called it "just 15 bucks." I'm just glad that this hasn't caught on with other accent artists. If one person does it, it's no big deal, but if everyone started doing it I'd be pretty upset...

I agree with you on half of this. Artists should be allowed to price their own art at whatever value they want to put on it. If someone doesn't want to pay that much or can't afford it, then obviously don't buy it. Artists absolutely do not owe anyone anything.

But your "15 bucks, big whoop" comment is out of touch and insensitive. $15 can be the difference between eating and not eating for some people. I get that if you are having trouble paying for food, in general you shouldn't be wasting money on skins, but my point is that while $15 may be nothing for some people, to others it is worth a whole lot more.

You've misinterpreted my comment. 15 bucks is the the difference of eating or not eating for me. It's also a very cheap price for a piece of art at that quality, even if people are used to getting skins for the "market price" of a few dollars on FR. It's still pretty dumb to price things above what people are willing to pay for if you're trying to actually sell your art, but that doesn't mean the art isn't worth more than the base price of a shitty sketch on Twitter.

I know that the FR skin market is its own bubble that varies next to UM skin and apparel markets on other sites, as well as the rates for original art in general... But even considering the possibility that anon has never looked at art pricing outside of FR umas, it's still weird to see people calling an artist scammy over pricing a skin this for 15 bucks. :P

ysdaar has always been as ass about skin reselling that is a fact
i remember him years ago get real aggressive about people saying it's bad etiquette to resell skins for 4-5 times as much as the artist printed. "people can just not buy it, i can do what i want"

While flip selling other artists accents at an exorbient price is pretty scummy, a skin artist is allowed to set whatever prices they want for /their own/ skins. Even though it's kind of ridiculous to set pie in the sky prices, the ball is still in their court. It's just that skins and accents may not sell

Honestly selling even a third of that goal would turn a pretty ok profit vs the time spent making and selling the skin, provided you don't print too many extra copies in advance. That's the benefit of pricing something higher than a few hundred gems.

in business, when selling, the only time you can price high is the first time you list. you can always cut the price later if you feel it needs to be, but no one in their right mind is gonna want to pay more later.

I've bumped up prices on G1s by 5-10kg and had them sell but I would not recommend people gamble with that tactic as it can take a lot of patience.

It's the same with his hatchery. I don't get why people buy his dragons, often they are nothing special, even have basic genes, but are expensive compared to AH.

his prices for g2 Imperials are in line with what I'd expect. i'm seeing some listed now for 1200-1500g, which fits cozily within market. it doesn't matter at all to me if they have basic genes or not. usually the people willing to shell out for this kind of dragon aren't shy about dumping more gems into them once they're "home."

he who can't be named sold their gen1 imp for an extremely low price. it looked like a manic sell-off. ysdaar was able to afford it since they've had the gems on hand. HWCBN sold their gen1 imp for the lowest a gen1 imp has sold in years iirc.
