Hey.

Edit 2/1/2023: A new small guideline that has been added to the rules- please include direct links to profiles, especially if the user in question is being shady, since they go 'invisible' when FR locks/bans them.

(It's not mandatory, but it helps folks get those juicy details.)

im not arguing about water's placement stats, those are undeniable. i just think its a bit contradictory to say water is organized and data-driven, then right after say the orgs are too "chill" to care about basic metrics or events. it just comes across as weirdly defensive in a thread about how fire's dom leads arent doing the bare minimum. other strong dom flights like light and plague are able to consistently organize events and track metrics, on a monthly or bi-monthly schedule.

DA From what I've observed our orgs (and even non-orgs) are interested in battle stats as well as specific experiments like our team v team pushes, and other interesting topics like figuring out flight size ratios. I originally joined because one of our orgs posted dom stats in FRD. I like that we do more dom analysis in general beyond just what's going on internally and there's a lot of discussion of the stats behind even battles we aren't involved in - it gives me the sense that our dom scene is looking at the big picture, which as a dom nerd, is appealing.

I am also curious what flight you're in, just to have a basis of comparison, as I don't really have dom experience in other flights.

im in lightning. we push bi-monthly (previously we were monthly but we recently switched) and we have raffles and team competitions for every push. obviously recording isn't /mandatory/ but those things provide a good incentive for recording, and i think the data collected is super fascinating. stuff like how many people participate, average level trained to, programs that are successful/programs that need improvement, balance with the team competitions, etc. i think that not recording things leaves a lot of data on the table, and its often very valuable for improving the dom experience and maturity for the flight.

Kinda funny that you're trying to school people from Water on dom stuff given the uh, turbulence Lightning has been through in the past year or two. 😂 I'm gonna go ahead and guess Water knows what they're doing.

im not trying to school anyone, and im sorry if my comments came across that way. as ive said, its obvious that water has provable success with its placement stats. im just surprised to hear that other flights arent as interested in IF data as lightning is, because its something i think is valuable. its really not deeper than that

sorry, to clarify a bit, im sure there are other flights that are interested in IF data in similar ways that i see lighting track. ive just only been in lightning so its always interesting/surprising to hear that some other flights handle dom differently. i also am genuinely sorry if any of my earlier comments came across as rude, i struggle with tone sometimes.

totally understandable, I think it was just this line that came across as teachy:

"its often very valuable for improving the dom experience and maturity for the flight"

you're def right, collecting all these stats is def a good thing! I'm really glad to hear that lightning is doing well - y'all did great against wind and I'm looking forward to seeing how your dom program continues to grow!!

ahh, yeah, im sorry about that - i definitely see how that came across as rude/targeting water and i should have phrased that differently. i'd intended it as a reference to how lightning balances our internal teams and how weve had some new programs/changes following that dom mess in 2020/21. we definitely have a ways to go and it fucking sucked to hear about how ava/rowan behaved behind the scenes but for better or worse it paved the way for a lot of changes that i think have been healthy to our own dom scene.
