legality circlejerk thread is getting stale. whats everyones personal gripes around dom spreadsheets

my personal annoyances are raffle/PB sheets that don't include what the daily bonuses are and leaderboards that only include incredibly limited stats, like only the top 10 senders or only daily stats.

also when the treasure/gem payouts are wildly different and completely ignore what the t:g ratio is. if the going ratio is ~1:1100 and fodder floor is 6g/7kT and your buying price for a L6 is 7g/10kT..... do you think im stupid or what

They don't think you're stupid, they just don't want everybody to go for the gem options. They're putting a fee on converting the treasure for you.

a ~30% fee is highway robbery. just dont offer gems at that point

you want dragons? you do the work required to get them. I'll sell them on the AH instead if I can't easily send them for gems without being shafted

when they dont let you copypaste attendant names or the prices. why??

or, if the prices have commas so if you copypaste them, the AH interface won't accept them smh

gonna echo the nonny who said when they don't/won't let you c&p attendants names. why? just why?? how is that going to hurt you if you let us copy their names? and if you're going to insist on doing that, then AT LEAST have the decency to only have attendants with easy to spell/remember names. none of this like....really long usernames with numbers as letters or numbers at the end or that kind of crap.

my other pet peeve is more slight but when they put the bonuses in some hard to find place on the sheet so you have to constantly be scrolling up/down to see it.

From what I remember of setting sheets up, preventing non-editors/owners from making a copy of a sheet also prevents them from copying from it, which is likely the reason it was set up as such.

Most flights don't mind if you copy their sheet to find import and even have mastersheets linked, so not sure why this one (iirc) locks theirs so tightly, but there's 0 other reasons to do this.

Most flights wouldn't copy another flight's sheets anyway - it'd cause conflict between the dom teams so it's pointless when you already have your own. Though Fire Dom (which I think is the only team that locks their sheets like this) is weird so who knows

it feels like firedom is obsessed with secrecy in ways that are actively detrimental to them. hiding their dom bank numbers and items from their own flight, keeping their sheets excessively locked down, and repeatedly dumping unnanounced pushes on other flights...

Dom used to be like that, though. I remember when it was a huge secret, not even discussed in forums, but in the flight Skype chat lol.

yeahbut thats not really how modern dom is, with its current focus on transparency between flight members and OOF. kinda sad that firedom seems stuck in the past... makes sense that a lot of the big exalters left after the flameforgers disaster last summer.

Earth dom is really similar, super secretive, and won't tell people anything. not that they really have to be since the ratio hands dom to earth whenever they want it, but they're definitely stuck in the old dom mindset

DA If you don't mind nonny, can you elaborate a bit on that? For instance are they only like that about sheets, or does it extend towards things like...not really being very transparent with the flight about things such as potential dom battles and the behind the scenes there (such as if there even will be one) or for instance if some of the dom leads are having rl issues and that's why there's a bit less reliability. Can you tell these are specific examples? /s I've been thinking of leaving my own flight and earth was one of the ones i was considering.

if you want to join a weirdly underrated dom flight I'd really recommend Water. I have no idea why it fails to come up when people are talking about the best dom flights. I guess we fly under the radar!

we beat earth in 2021 and are fighting fire this October, so it's a great time to join. we tied with earth for most 1st placements last year (7) after plague (9), and came in 3rd behind earth and light for most placements total.

our dom leads are interested in analyzing data, optimizing how things work, and innovating new strategies, and they share all this info with us frequently. it's very easy to get involved and they're supportive of non-leads doing their own programs. the community is small and friendly and everyone is chill af.

I moved to Water because I wasn't happy with my flight's dom scene and it's really exceeded my expectations. if you find dom interesting, and especially if you're a long time player looking for a new sense of investment in the game, I think you'll be happy here!

Ayrt (or even if you are referring to me i'll answer anyways lol) thank you water nonny, this kind of confirmed my suspicions as where best to go next! I'm so glad to hear all of that, even though i'm low key "retired" from dom, i do still value transparency and honesty in dom, and what you mentioned sounds like the types of things my flight used to do, and used to like to do, before all the dom leads had either life happen or just gave up caring and didn't bother to tell anyone any of this lol.

ahh yeah that's too bad :/ I feel for people who want to be more into dom but are stuck in less active flights bc of lore or friends or other reasons. interestingly we have a few "retired" dom leads from other flights who've come through on vacations or for longer stays, so you should fit right in lol.

I am not in Fire so I don't know if this is still true but the reason they lock it down is probably because their backend data entry (what the attendants do to record the dragons) is/was all done through a google form.

You used to be able to make a copy of the attendant view sheet and through peeking around at import links and stuff you could actually access this form. Since anyone with a form link can submit responses, you could theoretically very easily enter fake data. (I am nosy but not evil so I didn't lol, just for the record)

Even with the sheet locking, it is still a bad idea to use a google form for this from a security standpoint. Someone sharing the link with ill intentions could cause some problems, which would be harder to trace via version history compared to if the attendants were added via email to a spreadsheet.

I hope that they have fixed this issue or are working towards a fix.
