I see continuing the conversation won’t be constructive. I hope you grow as a person, sooner rather than later.

Friend: talks about how toxic a fandom is and how she thinks she needs to leave

Friend: [is going through the tag to reblog people and tell them how their interpretation is Wrong and Bad]

Friend: this fandom is so toxic

Re: mini rant

me: huh, I've been so afraid of my anxiety warping things + a history of my adhd/rejection sensitive dysphoria causing me to lash out at people that I was worried to label anyone as toxic as I am always worried that it's my brain issues claiming that & not the people themselves

you: no, they sound toxic

me: :O it's not just me

It's really not hard to make money on FR. If, on some chance, the person ever comes back some day, it honestly wouldn't be hard to get back to where they'd left at. Or at least a comfortable fraction in the case of *really* rich players.

As far as giving stuff away, there's two reasons that strike me (and both or neither can be true):

1) It's fun to make other people happy. Seeing people get the stuff that otherwise would have rotted away can bring a smile to someone's face. This is ESPECIALLY true of dragons that have sentimental value -- knowing they'll be loved (at least briefly) rather than sitting starving and unappreciated is a great feeling.
2) More cynically, it's an ego boost if you're super rich. I'd considered giving away all my stuff just because of the momentary spark of publicity it would have gotten me, though I ended up deciding to liquidate for art instead. But I can definitely see how people could find the flash-in-the-pan attention appealing -- especially since it often comes with people trying to suck up to get better free stuff which can provide another further ego boost.

Several of them have some manner of comment on their clan profile along the lines of "don't judge if you don't know the full story"

Which is like ok sure. You still are fucking transphobic racist pieces of shit lmao.

Dealing with "aging"?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-03 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm 27 and it astounds me how young so many rock stars and pop stars were. While I know I'm expected to have a fun life ahead of me, I feel like the fun part of my life is over. Feel like I could have partied more in college but I had health/time management issues. How do I get over that?

Wtf are you on????

I've quit sites before and when you've been playing for ages and have a bunch of good stuff, if you don't intend to come back it's mostly a case of "why not" rather than "why". There have been a few times I've wanted to play the game again and halfheartedly wished I had the stuff back but it's just as fun to start over and collect complete garbage instead.

How are any money sinks not artificial on a virtual pet site? The marginal cost of producing any item on the site is virtually 0.

skins/accents that are black and gold with some form of eyes, wings, and silks(?) ribbons(?). its like every other dragon with these things. and they resell for like 25kg even though every artist on site has their own version of it. I'm so tired of seeing this desert eldright god aesthetic.

Same age. I wish I had the answer for you. :(

I'm 30 but I can definitely say there are still plenty of parties for people our age. Granted they're a little harder to find since you can't just join a random campus and sniff out a good time. You just gotta find the right people to branch off to and find the good stuff. Also the alcohol tends to be better quality than in college days lol..

It also helps to realize that there is more to life than just having parties for fun. Now that I am much more secure in both maturity and finance thanks to my steady job I branch out and find other cool things to get into like boating trips, Disney World (I live 30 minutes away from it), going to the beach whenever I feel like because I have my own money and car... I don't know, life is just good, lol.

"Wtf are you on" anon...i agree with you but notice this anon didn't say how LONG it takes to make the money =P

Yep, think it was just a chest or something. I buy 10 tickets every week unless there's nothing I care about in the raffle (or more if there's a sprite, but not a whole lot more even then).

Lairs with good bios?

did you actually want to party more, at the time?

or is that a feeling that pops up only when comparing your life to other lives?

Re: Dealing with "aging"?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-03 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yes I do want to party more. What's up with introverts deciding that people don't have a real desire to do so?

Re: Dealing with "aging"?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-03 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
The real fun starts when you don't have to decide between paying your bills and buying food.

Honestly? I don't think the feeling ever goes away. I did my hard partying, experimenting and drinking between the ages of 15 and 19 (being European), stopped partying completely when I was 20 (while others were just starting) and trying to catch up on life (studying, working, developing relationships, traveling). Even though logically I know I didn't miss anything by abstaining after turning 20, I feel like I did because other people went about their life differently.

I'm 30 and only now starting to get serious about getting a permanent job and hobbies, maybe even start dating, and I feel like I'm behind on so many things. Yet when new people meet me they're always impressed by how much I've traveled and experienced.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

Somewhat related: my dad was one of those absurdly young rock musicians in the 70s and now works in a completely different field. I think he's counting down the days until he can retire so he can go back to fiddling with his guitar.

anyone who claims not to have negative feelings about dodge is a lying liar who lies

Re: Dealing with "aging"?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-03 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
This sounds like a humblebrag tbh. I never got my serious partying or career phase. So I'm behind on both. Good for you that you got to have your fun though. Imo, people who travel a lot tend to be people with rich parents, middle class people who seek out jobs abroad and have decent economic security, or Australian.

ayrt

sheesh what's with the hostility????

i asked "did" because i was working with the limited information your post provided and wanted to clarify where your dissatisfaction come from,

as in, did you feel, at the time, that you were getting your fill of partying and were at the time satisfied with how your life unfolded and only now, in the present time, in hindsight do you wish you had done things different

OR

did you always feel like you weren't doing enough

what i was trying to get at is that comparison is the thief of joy and all that but if you are going to be like that nevermind
