how on earth did FULGURITE and YEAR WITHOUT SUMMER by 888, which both got a gun holstered by the hip, get through skin q lmao? talk about trying to ignore the rules. I thought we weren't allowed to portray guns, nevermind for fucking hatchlings lmaooo either 888 is just tempting fate (which, considering the recent name swip swap shenanigans, why) with mods not noticing yet, or mods are somehow playing favourites
and just fyi, futuristic, sci-fi, antique, and toy styles of guns have all been generally accepted as okay when it comes to skins.
the gun in Fulgurite looks like a toy/sci-fi type gun for sure. Year Without a Summer looks a tad more realistic but it's holstered and neither gun even has a trigger.
begging these conspiracy/888 hater anons to find literally anything better to do with their time.
DA I dunno they look like they fall into that psuedo-scifi 'legally distinct from real firearm' category that Nerf blasters typically aim for. It's no marvin martian/buck rogers space blaster but they don't really read like a modern pistol either....
But it's also tiny, holstered and largely blends into the rest of the design. All we have to go on is the grip and lack of hammer. Should they be disallowed based on that even though *some* firearms are actually allowed? It does look like these are usually done by a case-by-case basis, so it could actually be that there's was not enough to go off of to completely disallow it other than it has the vague gist of 'gun'.
so this is deep skin and accent lore, but the part that the site rejects for being too modern has always been the muzzle/barrel of modern guns. when batfossil's gun head accents were removed from site for violating this rule, the moderators asked for him to redraw the barrels specifically. the handles themselves could look like anything. this is why sci fi rifles and old timey guns with flared muzzles are okay, but modern barrels are not.
the barrels on 888's skin aren't visible at all. the site itself has official crossbow apparel with gun-looking holsters.
NAYRT Oh wow! Did not know this before. I still feel like the handle is distinctly "modern pistol" on these particular skins, but interesting that it's the barrel in general that is judged. I really wish the skin moderators would add context like this to some of the content rules for skins, since it can be so hard to judge what has slipped through and what legitimately passed the queue.
Me personally, I'm happy the babies have guns. Get more of that shit through the queue
On a serious note, it's kinda stupid that whenever skin drama is brought up it's always "playing favorites". Literally just join aaa to see how much of that shit gets denied, iirc they have a whole channel for that (I'm not in there anymore for personal reasons so they might have changed but I doubt it)
staff definitely does not play favourites. yesterday in aaa, 888 showed that a commissioned custom recolor of FULGURITE & YEAR WITHOUT SUMMER was removed for copyright violations (iirc the commissioner wanted one based off a genshin character). i bet someone reported all 3 skins for baby guns and when staff took a closer look at the fanskin, they removed it.
To add on to this, 888 had a skin with a cartoony anatomical diagram of muscles rejected for gore-reasons iirc because the muscles were red in color. Like, the skin was literally just an aberration holding a piece of paper that looked like something you’d see in a high school science classroom.
Yep I remember that. That has been one of the most ridiculous ones I have seen, and is the one that made me decide I am never trying to make skins/accents unless it's for a contest.
DA honestly, only tangentially related to this whole "888 gave imp hatchlings a gun", aaa can be such a clusterfuck of like, a handful of people thinking every action against them is someone reporting stuff out of spite... like good lord is this high school? is everything because there's some evil troll sitting out there, and not just because y'kno the rules exist for a reason and should be followed to protect the site (esp with copyright stuff - wild that they get so petty over skins being removed for being violations when they are risking the site itself getting big game brands on its ass. would i love more fan skins? absolutely. do i think nintendo or whatever would absolutely nuke the site to hell and back if some of the more obvious skins are reported to them as copyright infringment? ALSO ABSOLUTELY)
but nooo it's because people can't allow for any fun! everything is an attack on their joy and whimsy! (yeah this is petty, yeah i should leave the server so i don't have to see this shit, but i sometimes enjoy parts of it and then i try to convince myself i can just ignore them)
I mean if it got removed for copyright infringement then it certainly wasn't harmless now was it? In fact that means it was potentially harmful, since the potential consequence is the holder of the copyright pushing for some penalty.
Like if a skin (or anything else, really) is removed or changed after a report then... it wasn't harmless, and the site admins decided that it wasn't harmless - it harmed or had the potential to harm the website in some way.
where's the line between ""harmless"" breaking of rules and horrible breaking of rules that deserves a report then, according to you? We know they don't want copyright infringement skins, we also know they don't want AI (rightly so, fuck AI). Is it right to report AI slop but wrong to report skins for breaking rules then, because somehow the copyright infringement or otherwise content breaking skins is "harmless"? Rules for thee but not for me? (again fuck AI, it's just a convenient example for why users are valid in reporting content that breaks the rules)
I mean some people do definitely do things out of spite on FR though on various different things. People admitting to spending their free time reporting dragon names, flippers going after rivals, sending in false reports about users for various things & everyone just accusing anyone of being a multi. With all those being said, I can believe that someone would be spiteful and petty enough to report a skin. Ofc users who are reported and action was taken definitely did break the rules but I find it laughable that you think that possibility is completely off the table. Plus with all the attacks towards skin makers that happens literally over nothing half the time, I would understand why some artists are distrustful and assume someone is genuinely going after them.
I would like to note that 888 literally didn't throw a fit over this or anything, just pretty much said yeah someone probably reported it for copywrite infringement. He also even said this is not even serious or personal lol
You are making a mountain out of a molehill. Just leave aaa at this point if you are this upset geez.
DA did you even read the previous message :sob: they acknowledge it's petty, but even so the message isn't even about 888, it's about aaa in general always jumping to "MALICIOUS!!!! SOMEONE IS OUT TO GET ME/YOU/THEM" instead of like. ah shit my rule breaking got caught. like fuck man, if someone got bonked for breaking the rules then the report was right, tf?? stop breaking the rules / encourage others to break the rules if you're (general you) going to be convinced the universe revolves around you anytime you get corrected for breaking the rules lol
I adore how this thread, not even discussing the removed rulebreaking version in the starter, just discussing the guns, has gone into a completely off the rails petty as fuck shitshow about the copyright policy and 888.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-12 11:29 am (UTC)(link)Dunno buddy, the gun doesn't read like a historical gun nor a sci-fi one, but a modern one so kind of a valid point in isolation
would be interested in knowing which skins have guns that fall in that category tho, i'm bored of knives n shit
