to be fully clear, posting that their images are probably ai is fine. im not mad at the person who posted the thread. im mad that people are comfortable talking about how ugly and gross somebodys work is if theres even a hint they mightve accidentally used an ai image off of adobestock. people did the same thing last time this came up when those false accusations of an artist using ai came up (im definitively saying theyre false because the allegedly ai generated images were first posted before ai tools were widespread or good enough to make them).
this case wasnt somebody being falsely accused bc of art they made themselves, but in other cases it creates a hostile environment for new artists whose drawings often have those “telltale signs” of being ai bc their anatomy and composition isnt exactly what ppl expect. and in this case it even just hurts people who arent as good as spotting which adobe stock images are real or not. people make mistakes and its cruel to be mean to them in the name of “attacking ai art”. youre not hurting big ai youre just being mean to some random guy who probably isnt even using ai themselves
Clearly they know what they were doing with how many they have made overtime. And if they didn't then it is a good idea to warn them, especially since it's against the rules on FR. You can't use Adobe stock as an excuse, that is still them not doing their due diligence and selling someone ai art. Ofc it is kind of a dick move to insult it when you don't know for certain but it's also not right to leave it be because it encourages more of that behavior. And besides, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between an inexperienced artist and someone using ai, at least from my perspective. There are a few bad eggs out there who call everything ai atp and will insult the work. There's always bad eggs on the internet, it's just something you have to accept when entering the online space. (Also just because ai wasn't "widespread" or "good" the last time this topic was brought up doesn't mean the person didn't use it lol)
Most people probably aren't expecting this to "hurt big ai" they are expecting to get this person to stop using it. If you are a bystander to this sort of behavior then you are also part of the problem
insulting people to get them to stop doing something bad is also bad. doesnt matter what your motives are, still harassment. people who look for excuses to be righteously cruel are just being cruel
theres this attitude people have in art communities where if somebody does something wrong (ai, copying art, not actually copying art but getting too close, etc) its seen as the “right thing to do” to harass and ostracize them to punish them/get them to stop.
hit send by accident, sorry. i just think the chance of getting somebody wrong is way too high to justify hating on people like that. imo its worse to start a targeted hate campaign against 1 innocent person.
im gonna let this go now bc i dont think starting an argument here is productive either and i dont want to cause the mods any trouble. but i also dont want people to be hurt needlessly.
AYRT I literally said insulting them is a dick move, did you read what I wrote? It is something that should get attention drawn to it. Nowhere did I say "Yeah let's go harass this person"
then we agree and weve found common ground. im not necessarily trying to argue here i just want to make my stance here clear. i also said its fine to talk about it/report them/let people know about somebody using ai in my first post. i think we have basicaly the same viewpoint here
You should have no expectation that strangers on the internet will be kind to you, especially when you are advocating for a technology that is built from cruelty - which sources its ML image data from; financially bonded groups, pseudo-consensual "are you human?" popups, stolen sets of data torrented and scraped. Doesn't matter what your motives are, still horseshit.
