LOL hi mindless š other anon is right, the anime is called Sanda and itās about a highschooler who can magically transform into olā Saint Nick.
To get back on topic: there are replies on SMR along the lines of āIām sick of christianity permeating everythingā, and while obviously that sentiment is 1000% valid, if this is how people are reacting to a hat that might be a santa claus reference, I fear they will be absolutely miserable when this anime becomes the new hotness.
On some level, I think those SMR posters are being⦠idk if āself-destructiveā is the appropriate phrase to use, but they have the ability to ignore this singular fest accent, and are choosing not to. And I know itās not that deep, but if they donāt get this bad habit under wraps, the internet will be Hell for them come the fall 2025 anime season. Here is my obligatory āI am an ex-protestantā statement.
i assure you, anon, i can handle random anime references. the fact that precure always has a highly plot-relevant christmas episode (indeed, in japan and korea at minimum, christmas really is this sort of secular aesthetic experience, it seems??) has not stopped me watching precure.
i am not getting like. triggered by a santa hat. i am simply asking that places that tell me that they don't allow irl religious references in official site content to like. not pull this shit, ideally. i hope you get why that specific context makes this bother me more than it would otherwise?
To me, the issue is that Holly and Hats aren't 'religious' Sure, Christmas has a huge religious significance, but those in and of themselves aren't.
I would personally prefer an all or nothing approach. If they are going to allow Valentine's day, which is distinctly religious in origin, and Halloween, which has some religious undertones to its beginnings, then they should allow OTHER holidays, unless it has absolutely no secular version to it.
If they aren't going to allow things such as holly and hats (and I am willing to give up on tinsel and baubles) then other references to in real life holidays with religious connotations should not be allowed either.
Just want to say that I can understand the issue of being sick about seeing Christmas everywhere, but I can also see the issue where people who are sick of Valentine's Day and Halloween having to deal with events and items based around them, while Christmas doesn't even get any items related to it, let alone events or nods to it.
I have long grown sick of seeing Halloween everywhere, and knowing the October and the months leading up to it are taken over by spiders and 'scary' movies and gore.
You keep bringing up Halloween. What Halloween event/items has FR released? If itās the Plague festival, then I believe the official reason for choosing October was its association with things starting to die off/ārotā as fall approaches. The items and skins released are Plague themed. Other than that, I donāt think we have anything around then that happens? And Iām asking genuinely - we have lots of items, maybe I missed something that got released for or around Halloween.
Other than Valentines (and Thanksgiving, briefly), I think FR has done a decent job avoiding incorporating real holidays. I donāt think the hat or holly are Christmas themed at all. Itās winter stuff for the winter holiday.
There actually isn't any Halloween stuff on site. Dunno what they're on about. There are Paper Masks but those were an April Fools release. There's other generic food and apparel you could shoehorn into a Halloween theme but nothing that's intentionally done by staff.
I mean, there are all the cobweb items, spider items, there are items to make 'spooky' dress ups, zombie skins, an item to put drapes on wings 'like curtains in a haunted lair', and likely quite a few other items (and this isn't even approaching the familiars and genes and other items) that can be associated with halloween. No, they weren't released *at* halloween, but they can still be used to create dress ups for Halloween.
Every time this subject is brought up on FR, people are always 'absolutely not, no matter when it is released' to anything even vaguely Christmas related. So, it doesn't matter when it is released, my point is that there are plenty of items and skins that people who love Halloween can use to dress their dragons up.
I would just like other times of the year see the same consideration, for people who like THOSE times of year. Wintery/glittery stuff for Christmas/winter holidays and so on.
So nothing actually Halloween themed, just items for unrelated roles/themes that *could* be used for Halloween dragons. By that logic, we do have Christmas items - thereās plenty of existing apparel that can be used to make Christmasy dragons. The bows and flower garlands, tons of different fest items, all sorts of jewelry that could work for decorations, various coats and other winter clothes, etc etc. We straight up have genes called Sugarplum and Candycane. I think you just lack imagination.
To be clear, Iām all for more wintery items, but there isnāt some secret FR War on Christmas happening here.
