At least with fr it's so extremely easy to make gems without spending any irl money. i feel like eggs are a bad comparison too given that we have two weeks in a year where everyone has relatively easy access to them
I always hate when people bring up sandust as some sort of F2P alternative because it's a massive slog to get enough and by the time you do get enough, there's probably ten more cash shop items to get anyway.
"Take a while" is putting it lightly. When someone takes as much time doing something as boring as quests over and over for a single item like that - speaking as a F2P user - that's just not F2P. It's an excuse to dismiss any complaint a F2P user would have. It's saying "well, technically you guys have a way of getting it!" without listening and fixing any overall issues.
