start over question

do we know why the site's admins are so very against against people starting over in a new account?

Because there are many options to 'start over'

- change your username
- change your flight
- exalt all your dragons and start with a new pair of G1s

etc etc.

If you need to like... start completely over because of drama... well, that's not the admins' fault.

But none of those reset your open lair slots, your Baldwin levels, your discovered entries in the Bestiary, etc.

It could also be because of something else like stalking or harassment, which wouldn’t be their fault

In the Petsite Golden Age it was very common for people to abuse leniency around additional accounts to funnel by "changing their mind" repeatedly, claiming multiple newbie packs, "accidentally" overlapping dailies for extra loot, etc.

And as far as their unwillingness to lock accounts to let people start over... would you want to be in charge of locking every requested account for every person who wanted to repeatedly reroll for an XXX custom progen? Would you want to field the complaints that would come up about good usernames being wasted? You could not pay me enough to do it with this player base, lol.

+1 to this

Yep, it just allows easy exploitation. I honestly don't know any pet sites that allow alts besides Lioden.

This isn't about allowing alts, it's about allowing people to close an account and start a new one.

There's no potential for an accidental overlap if you just close the whole thing yourself as an admin team. I don't think "would you want to be in charge of locking for this arbitrary reason?" really works out here given you could very, very easily institute bare minimum requirements to prevent this from happening (e.g. account age minimum for closure). Fielding complaints about good usernames being wasted is funny given that just happens with people doing it illegitimately anyway.

Given their incredibly slow response time on acting on legitimate complaints that they field, they really could stand to have someone filtering through incredibly minor support stuff like that on a part-time basis lol.

My guess is that it's simply because they don't have the backend set-up for this kind of thing. I've read in the past that they do not have the tech for account deletion, that accounts literally cannot be deleted once created (and those in the EU that ask for their privacy deletion end up with their accounts completely wiped but the accounts- what's left of them- are still technically there). So that there just isn't a way for you to 'just delete and start over'.

It might be easier to put in a account reset button though that resets things like levels and slots? I dunno. Their spaghetti code might not allow for that either and even then it might just be very low on their priority list given every thing else they'd want to do.

It seems like they had had concerns about folks taking advantage of the game with multiple accounts from the beginning so they don't really want you moving to a new one, there's not that many petsites that let you have multiple accounts. And if they did you'd have all the fun stuff that comes with policing them. Look at the roundsey multi-rings. At the same time... they do allow family members. So this is really just a non-issue. Make a new account, stop using the old one which should be easy since we really truly wanted to start over right?...and bam you're your sibling who's just started as a complete newbie.

Aternatively folks who are banned are allowed to remake.

I've never really understood why people who want an account restart don't just make a "dud" account first and report themselves for multiaccounting. Since you can remake after that, it'd give you a clean slate without having to worry about your new account getting closed too.

But maybe people are already doing this without admitting it anywhere.

People can and have done this, and it still takes them eons to get to the self-reports!

probably because they need to verify the account hasn't been hacked or compromised in some way and the self-report being made maliciously and incorrectly.

they've still gotta verify that you are in fact cheating.

This is what I did when I wanted to start over last year. It comes with some pretty hefty downsides.

For starters, it took them WELL over a month to respond to my ticket. 41 days is a long time to either not play, or play knowing all your progress is meaningless.

Not to mention how people were immediately suspicious of me whether I tried to explain the situation or not :(
