suggestions forum hot take

this isn't directed at any individual user, so it doesn't feel like it belongs in the wanker thread, and it's maybe a little too spicy for "minor/petty salt," but i need to get this off my chest:

goddamn do I wish there were a rule in the Suggestions forum that each user could only make one post per thread with their opinion.

this may seem harsh, but i'm just so tired of the back-and-forth arguments and threads getting endlessly bumped back up by the same set of like four users who just CANNOT tolerate not having the last word. that's not what the Suggestions forum is for, and people just seem psychologically incapable of not treating it like each individual thread constitutes a kind of vote, where if there are more posts in support of the suggestion than opposed then it "wins." (i'm also personally tired of my own posts in these giant threads getting buried because i'm not willing to try to argue down every single person who disagrees with me. but the staff are only human, so i do worry: when i express an opinion that goes against the grain, will it inevitably get drowned out?)

if someone else's post makes someone, including the OP, want to modify their opinion? great! use the edit function.

yeah i think some people take the suggestion forum way to seriously and i hate it. I almost wish the suggestions forum was just deleted. i don't feel like it adds much value outside of being a quarantine place for people's ideas so staff don't get spammed with them.

No support ( :) )
I once commented on a random suggestion that OP (of that suggestion) later changed in a complete 180 that made it a Hot Mess that rapidly increased in post number and finally had to be locked - with OP's edit it appeared as if I supported that weird second suggestion rather what they had written originally. I'd rather ignore and block anyone who argues in circles than make a mess of who supports or likes what.

Couldn't agree more, anon.

Some of the Suggestions forums regulars need to go outside. Do they seriously not have anything better to do than argue with people over POTENTIAL site features that will probably never get added anyway? Is this like enrichment for them? I'd like to see actual suggestions and discussion in the suggestions forum instead of like four or five people being annoying.

I don't think Staff even looks in there anymore lol

A little unrelated but I wish staff would make a rule that people can’t ’No Support’ a suggestion because it would ‘be too much work to make’ or ‘lag the site’. A random user of the site has no idea what would be too much work for staff to implement or how it would actually affect site performance, and I see so many people arguing against things solely because THEY think it wouldn’t be possible. I’m not even a fan of No Supporting things based off losing ad views, because ultimately the only people who know how much ad revenue is needed and where that’s best focused are the people who run the site.

My personal opinion is that unless you have a reason that a suggestion would actually be bad for game play/community/economy or such, then you don’t need to No Support something just because it doesn’t personally appeal to you. More Suggestions regulars would benefit from realizing they don’t need to comment on every single thing that gets posted.
