Are all hobbies supposed to stop because something terrible is happening somewhere? What an absolutely inane take to think people can't be suffering because they're frustrated by an admittedly silly game. I hope you get some perspective, in the nicest way possible, and learn not to generalize based on assumptions.
lol get some perspective yourself. and maybe some reading comprehension because i didn't say any of that.
no where in my original response did i say people couldn't be frustrated. i just suggested that the "big whiners", the people in that thread who are acting like this is the end of the world. you know, like Kim Kardashian was in the origin of that meme? should maybe chill the fuck out.
which is why i'm not acting like FR burned my crops and delivered a plague unto my house over a slight change to a set of dragon pngs.
at no point did i say people couldn't be mad or upset. i did suggest that the people who are being aggressive towards the Devs or otherwise acting like This is The End of FR for them pretty obviously don't have anything actually serious going on in their lives.
you can go through a natural disaster, be stressed out by that, and also be immensely stressed out that a game you play as an escape (from things like said natural disasters) made a change you didn't want for genes you may have spent RLC on at the same time, despite knowing that the game isn't the immediate issue to tackle. in fact, maybe this was a single straw that pushes things into a break BECAUSE their immediate surroundings are such a bleached hellscape, and a little nice thing is now no longer giving that joy it did; things build up over time, and small things never feel small when you're already in a really bad place.
people know there's suffering outside and what they have is more than some people have elsewhere. the only 'perspective' someone is gonna take away from this is that you're annoying for reminding people 'others have it worse, stop being upset'.
There's always a catastrophe somewhere. People being upset at a game doesn't mean their perspective is off.
If one lived in a hurricane area or whatnot, I can see being more angry in response to this because there is no one to direct that other anger at. The hurricane doesn't care. This is a viable direction that one can use to vent and know someone hears it. Even if sone of it is misdirected and over the top, the anger is not so shocking.
like, come on, dude. pain is relative. the world outside is constantly terrifying and awful and full of death and dying in a time when everything is too expensive to do anything about it. i have understanding that if someone is upset (even excessively!) that Pixel Dragon Don't Look Right Anymore :C, it's because that thing was important to them in some way, no matter how small that importance is.
do they need to dial it in? yes. but don't use the patronizing "there's starving kids in africa" statement, it doesn't do fuck all for the person who's upset but make them feel worse for being upset OR the starving kids in africa, and you're just annoying.
See, I think the problem is that when Undel said “upper arm”, people thought “from elbow to wrist”. I read it as “the part of the arm on the same side of the cylinder as the back of the hand”, or the top hand of the wing like in the top of a piece of paper.
"you can tell none of the big whiners on that thread live in areas that were affected by the recent rash of natural disasters because they'd hopefully have some semblance of perspective in that case."
"pretty obviously don't have anything actually serious going on in their lives."
I'm not sure what I misunderstood, because you're still doubling down on making assumptions of others based on pretty tame complaints in a thread dedicated to discussing the topic.
I agree some people seem overly combative on the topic but your attitude is nasty and cruel.
but undel didn't say upper arm, she said "Secondaries on Fathom F - Fathom F pose does not have the outside "wrist/hand" of the wing colored in the secondary colored and faded like the M and H pose do."
and continued to mention only the wrist throughout the fix. if she had meant the (upper/lower) arms of the wings, she should have said arm, as that's anatomically distinct from "wrist/hand" and would convey a more significant change.
if I grab your elbow, you wouldn't say "let go of my wrist", you know? same goes if I grab your triceps, it's still not your wrist.
My point is though that Undel & the artists clearly thought that the skin of the wing was over/on top of the entire part of the wrist/hand/arm, which is clearly not what the playerbase thought.
Also, this sort of thing is hard to explain in words. I would support them adding graphs showing exactly what parts were meant to be recolored.
no, yeah, i agree there was a miscommunication. i had even asked several of my friends to circle parts of an arm that are the "hand/wrist", and it was nearly unanimous that on hearing "hand/wrist", they circled the hand and the wrist (going no further than maybe a little bit further up the forearm). the only one who did something different was the person who has the most trouble with english, who only circled just the wrist itself on being told to circle the "hand/wrist".
it's one of those "words have meanings" things. staff saying one thing and then doing something beyond the realm of expectation isn't just confusing to people who know the english language well, it's potentially most confusing to ESL individuals who may lose the most understanding in translation. (not assuming that all ESL people wouldn't know words, but everyone's learning/memory is personal and online translators are imperfect.)
i think about this short all the time to remember that english is just not easy, even when you think you're being clear. (warning: it contains an ESL person 100% unintentionally telling someone to die due to miscommunication) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DETz2X2Ueag

The way the bones are arranged in human vs other mammalian/vertebrate anatomy is fascinating generally. I compare with horses, personally. The joints that we call our elbow and knee are tucked up in the body and then most of the actual leg is finger and toe.
reminds me of the biblical meltdown Gaia had when the devs released the eye vials and their stack of Vial of Scattersights got worthless over night lmao
fuck off with this comparison; no one was trying to monopolize or artificially inflate that market.
tbh just a really unfair and unkind way to characterize both gaia and the many others who got severely fucked over by that update.
(and no, I wasn't one of them; I had actually liquidated my stash shortly before the vials released, i.e. what turned out to be the best possible timing.)
