Yokudl: Yet another severely disappointing ancient breed... Unlike the other ones, however, this one also looks disgusting. Aequorin: Hi there yokudl, we understand not every release is going to be liked by everyone, but I'm not sure what you mean by "disgusting"? Could you please clarify?
peppermints: Kind of disappointing for the light ancient imo Xhaztol: look at them a couple more times
I am so glad the staff is clapping back at all those ungrateful people. YOU dont have to get a Everlux, YOU dont have to like them. NO ONE is forcing YOU to have on your LAIR. I personally don't like Aethers and don't have them bc heir faces look creepy to me, but I don't run around and yuck someone elses yum.
The FR community is just full of spoiled brats, seriously.
1. Shape =/= health. The notion that fat or a certain shape is inherently unhealthy is a false diet culture and fatphobia narrative.
2. It sounds like you've got some serious personal issues to deal with if you *see* fat and immediately compare it to body horror, and thinking of choking and dying, or "Being Afflicted."
3. Why are you thinking of squishing them? That was not even a thought that crossed my mind when I saw the art.
AYRT Sorry, I want to make it clear that the post above does NOT reflect my opinions. I was providing another example of the frankly disgusting way people are speaking about fat in the thread, saying it's biologically gross because it's unhealthy, etc.
i neeeed the eclipse gene for every dragon. my lair has a "darkness where there should be light (e.g. hewn city)" aesthetic/lore and this gene is literally made for my babies ;__;
AYRT I want it archived here in case people down the road say things like 'nobody was being fatphobic, everluxes/dusthides are just ugly!!211!1!' People ARE being gross on the forums and it SHOULD be here so that we can remember the reactions to this. And in case the post is deleted, OP is Cryoluxa #249516
AYRT Oh jeez I am so sorry for coming at you (/gen), I def thought that it was someone new to ARR and that they were outing themselves in a blaze of newb-dom.
Ais, Kiwis, and Cryoluxa are going at it in a FRD thread. I suspect it will be 'cleaned up' by staff soon, so, doing the good work of archiving it for us. Please continue to archive as the thread grows.
Big agree about the whale/seal comparison, it works well.
I don't see the bursting comparison. It looks fine to me honestly. If you closely at the male, it has the same big belly but the post just has it tucked in.
I think for me the issue is the exaggerated underbite. I've never seen a big fan of exaggerated underbite and the fact that it's so obvious on the hatchling is probably what threw me off.
There's a lot of people being nasty about them. Here's someone I found from Dev Tracker who got their thread locked by Aequorin: "This is a thread where people can scream their grievances and annoyance at the new light ancient without being talked down to about by defenders. If you like the new ancient, DO NOT POST HERE THANKS!" "The Everlix genuinely look diseased to me in some way. I cannot explain it, it just looks like they have every disease a dragon can have. I don't like them at all" "Dropping in again to just drop another random opinion of mine: but to me they just genuinely look diseased in some way, they don't look like they live healthy happy lives at ALL, more so the females as they in particular just... look like they have some kind of disease causing fluid build up in their stomachs. I'm fine with them being chubby, but they genuinely look diseased."
Your comment reminds me of that "draw a dog and I'll tell whether you're a furry" meme...
Personal opinion: Hatchling's and male's legs are longer than the belly: natural rotund shape. Female's legs are shorter than the belly: she looks ready to go into labour to lay the eggs as she doesn't appear to be capable (anymore?) of walking without dragging the belly.
Oh totally agreed. The folks going all "The Light Flight has an elegant and eldritch horror aesthetic, not this!!!" Let's be for real, you can't even handle a fat bug, let alone any actual eldritch horror that isn't just multiple wings or eyes (nothing that's actually scary)...
DA also I think people are forgetting just how clunky a lot of old light apparel was. Light is not solely the delicate filigree flight. I feel like you'd be hard-pressed to call the Sunguard Chestplate or even the Sunchaser Jewelry "elegant".
Saethuryx has a good point in the "Anyone else disappointed" thread: "it's probably because they're new and don't have a historical lore entry that solidly links them with Light's existing story."
"the only reason we identify dragons with their current flights is because many of them were around since the beginning, and we forget that the overarching dragon theme we associate with the flight originated with the dragons already there, not from the flight itself."
"the only difference between a new breed like the Everlux and a breed that's always been there like Imperials and Pearlcatchers are that we've had 11 years to integrate those dragons (Imps/PCs) into our minds as being from that flight."
[Snipped some sections of the post, but just wanted to port over some quotes]
Adjacent to all these good points, it was the playerbase that decided Light was angel themed, not the staff. Staff sort of fed into it with some of their fest picks, but like... clunky apparel is right! Light has always been a bit horror-ish, a bit round, etc.
I just want to say thanks for writing all this, it's so well put! Reading it made me feel like you took the thoughts right out of my head and made them presentable. 10/10 post
