Spooky Spite

An important update:

Due to a specific person being a complete child, comments are going to be screened by default.

This is only temporary, and I apologize for the inconvenience- this is going to be a pain in the ass for me, too, but multiple people have come forward about fears of doxxing, and this is the only way to make sure any doxxing is contained.

(This basically will force the doxxer to make a DW account to post any doxxing attempts unscreened, and will let me more reliably report them to DW staff/authorities.)

Again, I apologize, and will be working to unscreen comments as fast as possible, but I'm only one person.

(Vasemod has had some personal issues come up, so I am the only mod atm. Please bear with me until this bit of annoyance has passed.)

we are living in the weirdest time ever. this might sound unrelated at first but hold on let me get into it

one time i was out walking with my gf at the park and someone coming down the other way took a picture of us with their fancy camera. young gen zer who didn't ask permission or say anything to us as we passed each other after. i wasn't threatened but it was uncomfortable and if they had asked, i would have said no. but legally, they didn't have to. i would like to think that i own my face, but i don't. there's no expectation of privacy in public, which the definition of has expanded to include everyone and everything online. it's all a commodity, and the way it all gets torn apart and put back together like frankenstein's monster can have some very horrifying results

even before ai art was a big topic there was commercialization of famous art styles filling the pockets of people who have never picked up a brush. can ai art transformative like a starry night esque mug on etsy? i think it definitely depends on what's feeding it, but i also think the cat is very much out of the bag already with all the data available to anyone who can type a search into google images. i wish i was a cat

the light at the end of the tunnel is that there's legislation being passed over ai media, because ai is a much more specific thing than just hijacking someone else's style.

do you have links? i'm not familiar with any current legislative action over creative works aside from the hollywood writer's strike and i didn't think that included usage of an actor's likeness to make ai content

this whole post reads like white noise static to me

you know the just because things are bad doesn't mean they need to stay that way? just because you've accepted it doesn't mean that artists need to.

also using copywritten subject matter to create transformative artwork is literally the furthest thing away from AI generators stealing artwork from artists.

yes, i can tell you're struggling to understand because you still think i'm ok with it. keep punching the air my friend you'll get the bastard one day

totally different anon but ok buddy

if this many people are misunderstanding you, maybe you need to take a look at the way you communicate with people. it's weird to keep pretending like everyone else is too stupid to understand you, but you make absolutely no effort to explain your point of view better.

maybe everyone is struggling to understand and misinterpreting your opinion on AI art because you think it's cute to not answer when people think your posts are vaguely defensive towards AI art. because that's exactly how your posts sound.

you just look kind of dumb acting like this ngl

DA

This is why I said "You sound like an NFT bro" because they have the same smug, "I am totally smarter than you, so it's beneath me to try to talk to you as if you're a person," type of tone that I've seen from every AI/NFT bro on twitter (who also tend to think Elon Musk is a savant.)

please do quote anywhere someone has asked me a question, instead of insulting me or making strawmen. i would love to have an actual discussion, and i have tried to with 2 paragraphs of thoughts only to have it called white noise. i have clarified 4 separate times that i don't like how ai art is made and used, am i speaking an alien language or something what the fuck honestly

you have no interest in having an actual conversation lol

"i could get into my actual nuanced opinions but something tells me you are not receptive (: so instead i will say thank you i will continue doing so <3"

you sound like an insufferable NFT shill. this is not the response from someone who is actually interested in having a discussion and explaining their potentially slightly different point of view. this passive aggressive attitude isn't as cute as you think it is.

boo hoo people weren't the nicest or most charitable to you because you came off like an egotistical loser come down to pity us poor idiots who couldn't POSSIBLY understand your super advanced nuanced opinions on AI art. i wonder why that happened.

i just love art theft so much i can't help it

for sure, i never disagreed. i was even talking about why the scraping is so widespread (everything on the internet is "in the public") and how it will be difficult to contain

i had to search glaze/nightshade up but they sound rad as hell, i'm reminded of those people who did weird face paint shapes to disguise themselves from facial recognition software

hmm i wonder what i was responding to in that quote

"I’m glad you think art theft is fun (:"

ah yes, i was the passive aggressive one first, my bad! my egotistical ass thought a picture was neat!

???????????????????????

Re: Selling Dragons with AI Art

“i think the images are fun” + “for sure, i never disagreed.” in response to “I mean a large chunk of AI models thrive from scraping styles from existing artists, which IS art theft.” = I’m glad you think art theft is fun!

it has been funny to see you run yourself in circles about this and assume every other anon was me tho lmao. I’m not going to try to stop you from thinking AI is fun or try to have a nuanced convo because we clearly both have our own thoughts about it. hope that helps end the discussion??

ok... so imagine you're at a clothing chain store

"i think this shirt is fun" + "for sure, i never disagreed" in response to "I mean a large chunk of off the rack clothing is made by underpaid/child labor" = I'm glad you think underpaid/child labor is fun! is an incredibly extreme and unhuman conversation. i am not buying the child labor shirt or approving of the process by which it came about, i'm commenting specifically on the shirt's visual qualities. if i could live in a world where it didn't exist, i'd be there. alas

i responded to you without making any assumptions who you or any other anon was, i haven't commented on that at all so i'm a little confused what you mean. it's getting late and i'm going to head to bed but i do hope more people talk more in depth about the actual topic of ai art so i can wake up and join in on that instead of this lol

Re: Selling Dragons with AI Art

(Anonymous) 2023-10-26 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
ok, but the original convo was about how ai art is bad. using your metaphor, imagine if people were having a conversation about how a clothing chain store uses child labor, and then someone says "well I think their clothes are fun!" do you understand that that looks really bad? do you understand that seems like a defense of the clothing brand?

Re: Selling Dragons with AI Art

(Anonymous) 2023-10-27 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
i would, except for how i followed it up in that same post by saying that it wasn't, to follow my metaphor, legitimate clothing and that people were rightfully upset about it being used that way. do you understand?

Copyright expires. People can use Starry Night/the Mona Lisa/Water Lilies etc on stuff because it was made long enough ago that it’s in public domain.
