Spooky Spite

An important update:

Due to a specific person being a complete child, comments are going to be screened by default.

This is only temporary, and I apologize for the inconvenience- this is going to be a pain in the ass for me, too, but multiple people have come forward about fears of doxxing, and this is the only way to make sure any doxxing is contained.

(This basically will force the doxxer to make a DW account to post any doxxing attempts unscreened, and will let me more reliably report them to DW staff/authorities.)

Again, I apologize, and will be working to unscreen comments as fast as possible, but I'm only one person.

(Vasemod has had some personal issues come up, so I am the only mod atm. Please bear with me until this bit of annoyance has passed.)

Not to start shit but it's kinda weird that you have the same layout as the mod's actual blog.

I keep buying them out as much as I can and selling them on the AH for lower than standard price

Remind me how you can tell if someone is banned? I thought there was a little message in the comment box on their profile but I don't see that on Pride's page (https://www1.flightrising.com/clan-profile/346412).
I do see the "like" button is gone on their dragons' pages but I don't know if that's something you can toggle.

Also, LOL, "My user there [on chickensmoothie] is Daim" and then they right on their friends list is someone named... Daim (https://www1.flightrising.com/clan-profile/583957). Not suspicious at all.

Re: Pride

The like button is on client end only so if you have it turned off it turns off for everyone. If you have it on and you can see likes on someone, that means banned.

(sa, mods could you not post my other post?) Zyeah, the design is fine imo. the lore specifically is where it gets bad. idk, the way the auras are treated in the short story? yikes

Re: RMT Bans

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
You wouldn't get banned for cross simply saying "it wasn't a gift, they bought it." Even if you DID buy it, screenshots alone aren't really enough to get you banned. Too easy to alter.

it's kinda weird that they're deanoning on an anon meme to begin with, tbh. like yeah waiting for mods to unscreen comments sorta sucks but it is what it is (not complaining @ mods for doing it, I understand why you have to, just sucks that you've been put into this position)

ayrt - i am probably the wrong person to comment on it but i feel that the breed which has parallels with other fantasy ~native~ tropes having an exclusive gene that turns them into a woven basket is somewhat uncomfortable. not trying to blow it out of proportion or claim that the devs are intentionally racist, just observing that native cultures often get reduced to these same handful of visual tropes.

ayrt again - oh and one more thing that i missed in my other reply, they also have ‘terracotta’ as an exclusive gene so it’s like… basket weaving and clay pot motifs for a parallel of native culture, how original.

+1

I really wouldn't want to see this become a trend on here.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
That's kind of you, but it just means the people you bought it from can buy it back from you, so you can buy it from them again, and so on and so on.

DA terracotta gene seemed potentially dubious to me too but I'm not sure

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Sorry for any confusion, but I meant that I buy those genes in bulk from the marketplace and then sell it on the auction house at a lower price. I do not buy from other people on the auction house.

lore is bad but that's the reason i don't even try to read anything staff writes as at best, it will be badly written, at worst it will require yet another 'apology from staff'.

but the visual complaints re: 'auroboa breed itself is racist' smells to me a bit like, idk, ignorant american take on cultural appropriation? because it feels like i, a random not american, should know from the first glance how a random to me native american tribe's headdress looks like, and not how a quetzalcoatl or a bird's feathered head looks like (note: i feed birds on my windowsill and when the local species get angry, they flair their head feathers similarly, so that was my first thought, staff drew me an angry bird). it's very ignorant to think that there are 'neutral' inspirations as all inspirations come from one or another culture, we are just conditioned to think some cultures to be the default.

Re: auraboa whinging

(Anonymous) 2023-11-23 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I pretty much ignore most lore, because FR doesn't seem to have a sensitivity reader on staff (And you'd THINK they'd hire one by now but NOPE- never mind some folks would be happy to do it for free- like a volunteer mod, but volunteer sensitivity reader? idk, they need one)

That being said, as someone who's not Native, I'm letting actual Natives voice their discomfort, and will support them, but the soap box ain't mine, and it sure af ain't in my lane.

what get's me is really that lakota warbonnet criticism. yes, that'd be fucked, but it's a feather crest on a dragon-snake ultimately. not some random apparel in three different gaudy colour combinations. feather crests on animals tend to exist in many forms. it just feels like reaching and thus waters down any actual criticism with more solid foundation.
the lore sucks. but that's also why i don't read FR lore. it's never good.

the whole "assimilating to outside culture" thing as well as being a nature breed based off mesoamerican folklore has some pretty iffy implications that staff should've thought through. the terracotta and woven thing is grasping at straws though, like i can see why people would think that considering *gestures at everything else about the lore* but woven baskets and clay pots are pretty common things in every culture and were bound to become genes eventually

Re: “inspirations as all inspirations come from one or another culture, we are just conditioned to think some cultures to be the default”

That part. For all the cries of racism in the visual design, this is a really important point that people seem to miss and that’s like sociology/anthropology 101. Nothing is created in a vacuum and there are no “default” cultures. It’s very annoying to see whiteknighting from people who don’t do the first step of socio/anthro: acknowledge your own inherent biases.
