While flip selling other artists accents at an exorbient price is pretty scummy, a skin artist is allowed to set whatever prices they want for /their own/ skins. Even though it's kind of ridiculous to set pie in the sky prices, the ball is still in their court. It's just that skins and accents may not sell

an anon earlier in this thread cracked me up saying y is struggling to sell all 100 but imo selling anything close to that with the markup is wildly successful

Honestly selling even a third of that goal would turn a pretty ok profit vs the time spent making and selling the skin, provided you don't print too many extra copies in advance. That's the benefit of pricing something higher than a few hundred gems.

At the markups they sell their dragons at I’m sure they can afford this (lol), but I’ve also seen rumors that they target old accounts and manipulate the market (???) for oldie dragons? Does anybody have evidence for this?
I remember years ago they offered me about a quarter of what I ended up getting for one of my dragons, but the market is variable enough I didn’t think it was malicious. Now I can’t tell if they’re just attention seeking or actually scummy

Legacy dragon etiquette?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-03 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Purchased a dragon to be part of a fodder pair for less than 10g on the AH, only for it to be a double legacy dragon of all things. I read through both threads and both claim that they can’t control descendants that get exalted, therefore they don’t mind, but this is also my first time keeping dedicated fodder pairs and I wanted to know what other people would do. This pair has a tight spread of colors that I want to keep. Am I fine if I proceed without ever interacting with the legacy threads? Is it more polite to reach out if any hatchlings are special (e.g. eyes)? If I decide to register at a later date, would it look funny that I’ve been creating fodder?

I’ve already accepted that if I don’t want the dragon anymore, I’ll reach out to either thread. I just have no idea if there’s any etiquette I should be aware of before I bother them. :’)

in business, when selling, the only time you can price high is the first time you list. you can always cut the price later if you feel it needs to be, but no one in their right mind is gonna want to pay more later.

I've bumped up prices on G1s by 5-10kg and had them sell but I would not recommend people gamble with that tactic as it can take a lot of patience.

that one person in the replies is so funny, calling the advice "condescending" as if it wasn't meant to give more artists the knowledge they need to increase their chances of winning the contest

not sure what legacies exactly you're talking about, but i don't think you Owe it to anyone to involve yourself with the legacy thread. if you think it would be fun, go for it! but if you'd rather just keep to yourself, that's fine too. if it's a Naomi/Ignis descendant or anything like that, there's SO MANY of them that i hardly think people would be mad at you for just yeeting ugly ones to the gods. if you get handsome hatchies though maybe post them to the threads!

it's a UMA, not a necessity. FR skin artists aren't landlords LMAO. even if you picked UMAs over dragon food, no one would starve & die. it's fine.

yeah lol. I almost wanted to point out that small artist =/= bad artist. Sorry but if your art sucks then I don't want it on a festival skin/accent because staff is supposed to play the role of an encouraging parent. Especially when those are usually the only skins and accents available to poorer players.

OP
oh definitely. you can do as you please with your dragons, and generally i find scatterquest threads to be amusing! it's just Alyxsandre with this dragon in particular that annoys me.
"i'll sell him! but you have to beg me, and be willing to pay way over market price. no wait, i think i'll scatter him! but beg me not to first, uwu. wait, no, i scattered him already! does somebody want to buy him now? just kidding! i'm scattering him again. unless...~?!"
the topic is so milked-dry, it's disintegrating

Re: longest scatterquest begins again

(Anonymous) 2023-08-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They get pissed if you buy a dragon from them and do what you want with it, despite ownership rules. They have rules against primal eye vials, for instance, and I saw them once waffling on a decision sell a dragon because the buyer wanted to scatter it.

Re: Alyxsandre

(Anonymous) 2023-08-03 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
they do consistently overprice their dragons, especially oldies. and then ping the collectors list repeatedly for the same dragons, just slightly lowering the price every time. i'm not sure how much they actually sell? because i swear to god i'm getting pings now for the same dragons i was getting pings for a year ago LOL (but that could be hyperbole).
i'm not sure if Alyxsandre does any of the "scamming users by PMing them directly about old dragons they may not know the value of" style BS, though i know that topic was discussed here recently regarding the user @/After.
with the language Alyxsandre uses in their posts, though, it really seems like they could use a break from FR. they have all these cool things - old dragons, fancy items, and a community of people who love talking about it all - and just still seem so miserable??? like, if it's not fun any more, you don't have to log in every day.

Wasn't there an anon here on a dom thread that said another anon's advice (which is a really good writeup btw) on dom "condescending" too? I wonder if they're the same person. If not, I really hope that's not a rising trend of any well-meaning advice being called condescending because god, the entitlement in that kind of reply... Do they think the people consistently winning contests make it there without failing at least a few times? They even stated right in their post that they lost at 4 times before getting their first contest win.

Re: Mythicalviper posted a breakdown of their accent contest strategy

(Anonymous) 2023-08-03 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I think the amount of hate 888 / MV get for winning is super unfair. Staff wants to pick the highest quality submissions to win - this means theme, style, skill, etc. If certain artists are consistently making high quality submissions, then yeah, it makes sense they’re going to win a lot.

As a personal anecdote - I used to participate in the fest accent submission threads. I never won. This was years ago, and I can recognize the reasons I didn’t win now: issues with quality, being off-theme, etc. Instead, I found a lot more success making my own things, and I ended up improving a lot/finding my own niche because of that. I’m having a lot more fun now than I ever would have if I just kept trying fest accents!

If you’re always putting yourself in a position to compare your art to others, of course you’re going to have a bad time. Losses are more painful and wins are more meaningful, but you lose sight of any progress you’ve made as an artist, because it only matters how your work fares against someone else’s. Insert that thing about two cakes. I promise most players don’t actually care who wins, they just like getting cool skins. (I know I always buy plenty of fest rejects on top of the fest skins.)

I don’t have a problem with those buttons by itself but it’s always a little weird/funny to me that some people feel the need to broadcast every medical condition they have through them.

Like bestie, I don’t know if people on a 13+ dragon png website needs to know you are lactose-intolerant??

Thank you for putting it into perspective for me. One legacy is on generation 18 and the other is on generation 20 so you make a good point, and I'll be sure to give a chance for the prettier ones to be adopted within the threads. Have a nice rest of your day, nonny!

+1. Oh my god you were serious about the lactose intolerant one.

I have nothing against the buttons or creator, especially because they’re doing them all for free (if these are the ones OP is referring to: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/3078623). It’s more the people that overshare with these I find odd.

I’ve seen more and more of this recently (not just on FR) and please, please, if you’re one of these people, please don’t go sharing your personal info and diagnoses on a random website.
