Hey.

Edit 2/1/2023: A new small guideline that has been added to the rules- please include direct links to profiles, especially if the user in question is being shady, since they go 'invisible' when FR locks/bans them.

(It's not mandatory, but it helps folks get those juicy details.)

Am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with this? At least not to the degree to call someone shitty over it. Like.. yeah, the customs section is word-for-word same. So what? It's generic "customs are this much". I don't even see much of a problem copying the theme even if it's 1:1, since the theme is already done to death anyway.

I wouldn't give a shit if someone copied my customs shop like this, lore and all. Unless crowvidae themselves is hurt by it, I don't see the problem. Just my own opinion on it. They're the only affected party here.

Crowvidae themself called Vaira out… that should tell you how uncomfortable they were with it lol

It wouldn’t even be that bad if Vaira hadn’t staged a whole thing in AAA trying to cover their ass, and then responded super defensively and aggressively when people pointed out their bs

NAYRT, but I think the problem people have with VairaSmythe is their response. Here is a screenshot from AAA of their response.

They copied it, then claimed in the AAA Discord (which crowvidae is also in) that they had found the template on Toyhouse. They then just "happened" to delete their entire browser history and were unable to find the Toyhouse link through Google.

It reeks of someone trying to lay a false trail in case crowvidae ever stumbled across their skin shop in the wild.

i feel like art shops are (or should be) much more personal to the artist, so it's pretty insulting for one artist to build a custom thread specifically tuned to their own creativity, only to have it ripped word for word by someone else. imo it speaks to a high level of laziness and disconnect that, working in such a creatively-driven field, you couldn't find the time or care to make your own personalized thread. and i imagine it's extra sensitive considering there's already a huge issue of having your ideas and work plagiarized by others (or ai, now) in the art world.

You might be the only one, yeah.

People build their threads from the ground up and put their own text in their own speaking style, and to have someone just take all of that is personally insulting. I've had my writing shop copied word for word, code and all, by someone and I felt so awful because I spent hours on it only for someone to just take it. Sure, there's limited things you can do to code a thread, but you can still make it look and feel uniquely yours with the coding and wording combined, IMO.

Another thing is that this person isn't taking responsibility at all. Someone showed a screenshot of their response above me, but they're still trying to hold on to the scenario that this was all some misunderstanding and that they got it from a template. If they just settled this privately and changed things while taking accountability, I wouldn't have this much of an issue, but they went into AAA and made the whole thing public with this template story.

Replying to you but it's also a response to everyone else responding to me: that makes sense. I don't want to take away from anyone who would be upset by it, I'm more just thinking about people annoyed when it doesn't affect them personally, because I think copying the more general aspects of a shop isn't that bad. If it does happen to you, you have every right to be upset, and crow also does.

I hadn't seen crow's response, or vaira's response, and I think vair's response is super shitty; it reminds me of someone who doesn't like to lie, but doesn't want to get in trouble, so they weasel around the words. Crow would be valid in being upset just from the copying alone, but the response to vair being told it was upsetting would make me feel even worse too.

Not sure if you read it, but vaira didn’t just copy the general aspect of the shop. They literally copy pasted crow’s shop then kept lying and trying to cover up their mistake. I don’t know if you know them personally but that doesn’t give me the impression of someone who doesn’t like to lie. It gives me the impression of someone who lies frequently and expects to get away with it.

Yeah getting called out probably made them feel bad, but tbh they deserved it because it’s clear they weren’t going to admit they lied otherwise. They don’t get to play the victim card here and personally I have no sympathy for them. It’s obvious enough that they didn’t feel bad about crow telling them it was upsetting. People who feel bad wouldn’t pop into aaa 14 hours later lying about how they coped an entire shop down to the text.

To clarify, when I said "but the response to vair being told it was upsetting would make me feel even worse too", I meant, Vair's response would be even more upsetting to the person affected, not that Vair's feelings were hurt. I don't really give a shit about Vair's feelings due to the way they handled it, lol.
