I still think it's a pathetic cop-out: what's the actual difference between a player donating treasure to their bank to buy mercs and a player spending all that treasure by themselves to buy mercs? Nothing besides who does the majority of the work, a single player or everyone. But sure, now two flights are patting their backs how they aren't using those dirty dirty bad mercs despite my flight's merc group having standing orders from multiple people on BOTH sides.

Yeah, I'm a bit bemused since the previous attempted PvN matchup fizzled because Plague didn't want a huge demoralizing loss, so I expected it to be an evener fight than this. It's a shame, flips are fun. But oh well. Especially given the discussion on the previous page about solo pushes, I guess we're just...not good at dom these days. (No salt please! Let's just say we're thematically granola-y peaceniks and leave it at that :) )

What I don't understand - and maybe someone can explain it to me - is why on earth would you NOT want to make the battle as fun and grandiose and full on as possible?

Are these flights not fundraising and asking for donations from their members during the 2 years between battles? Are they not amassing a huge cache of money? I get having some rules around what to include - no KS items, not price rises for a couple of days - but then go ham. That's the fun of it. What else are you saving Dom money for? It's magic pixel money, it is there to get Dominance.

No flight member should be losing money if you've made investments in hoarded fodder to funnel into your flight for cheap during the battle. You're spending Dom Bank fake money on mercs and raffle prizes and maybe AH buying and sniping. The main Dom issue should now be preventing the absolute tsunami of fodder that overwhelms attendants on Saturday and ensuring you have a gazillion attendants on that day solely dedicated to that alone, because that's a nightmare. And that's not something Dom Bank can buy, unless you want to give IF prizes for Saturday attendants.

So why is every battle now about making it as cheap as possible?

tbh, my own flight's (not plague or nature) behavior is also making me question rather frequently 'what are we saving that bank money for if not for an all-out battle' (my flight doesn't seem to be buying regular raffle prizes with it), so +1 to everything said

It's funny yall are making this ruckus for NvP but SvI had no flips either and no mercs.

If a flip and excitement is what you nonnys want, tell Nature to exalt their hoarded dragons maybe?

Or help your own flight organize a battle.

SvL was also not fun because there were no flips. What's your point?? And no offense, but since Nature and Plague are natural mirrors of each other and this is a highly anticipated battle, I'd expect more from them than a normal conquest battle. Like other nonny said, what's the point of saving up if you're not going to go all out? What IS the hypothetical they're saving up for it not the biggest rival flight battle of the decade?

I'm wondering if anyone is actually aware of how much battles cost. Yes, most dom banks are massive. And all of them are raising money in between battles. But the more "fun and grandiose" you make a battle, the more it costs and the less you have to work with at the end of the week when the price of fodder is insane. And when your flight drains that bank with a big battle, you have to start completely over again. Which is why it's taking 2 years for some flights to battle. Dom teams have to budget for IF and OOF expenses - all of which leak money at massive rates.

So it's not that flights want to take away your fun. It's that they have to budget shit so that you can still have fun at the end of the week.

During our most recent battle we ended up with a more dedicated flight and waaaay more people used to training and exalting and donating so we actually had an influx of donations right after it was finished - and yes, we did for sure keep some money back so that we weren't ending up with nothing, I'm not saying you shouldn't do that. And again: if you've stashed enough hatchies beforehand you don't need any of your flight members to buy insanely priced fodder.

I think I'm mostly kvetching about how for everyone involved now it seems like a risk-aversion exercise instead of the glory of battle, and then I also remembered it's pixel dragons so I should go out to touch grass lol

Water had a bunch of money left over even after battling Earth so it's very possible to go all out and not go broke. And that's with them being a small flight, so not as many IF people to raise funds from.

I saw the exact figures of Water vs Earth. And that was with merc purchases, our special programs, and none of this price limiting.

With proper budgeting and fund raising, you come out with money left over. I just find it confusing larger flights can't manage it with more bodies to donate.

Yes, some of us do actually know what battles cost. And I'm fine with spending 2 years in between major battles if that's what it takes. My last one was Wind vs Plague 2020, where I spent about 50kg of my own funds and had a blast. It was exciting and very memorable! I'm greatly looking forward to our upcoming battle which is just shy of 2 years later.

So with my bona fides out of the way: I find it weird that anyone has the mentality that you should try to save money in a battle. If you don't think you have enough, then... don't battle? Not that you have to be a high roller to participate, but on a flightwide level, you gotta be prepared to spend if you want to win. Otherwise do some profit pushes or something.
