ayrt what is most astonishing me, in the context of FR, it's that people throw out these highly private details in order to "influence" something on a goddamn pixel dragon game suggestion forum. as if saying "I was almost a stillbirth" is now going to make staff descend from their cloud and add the specific gameplay feature they want. but this goes beyond FR anyway. you see it with all these carrds: kids displaying their ages, all their diagnosed mental illnesses, where they live, details about their life that can out them easily - it's insane. i'm honestly scared for youth on the net todays. combine that with the already extremely hostile online culture nowadays.
Idk if you saw it but there was a popular post going around, a screenshot of a tweet that was like
"it scares me how many people don't have carrds, y'all dont have to be interesting you know? just include the basic stuff like your triggers, your kinks, your byf, your dni, your mental illnesses, your labels, your sexuality, your gender identity, your systems"
Rly bitch? I promise you no one cares. Outside of twitter most people don't even know what carrd is or has no interest in making one.
basically, yeah, that's actually a really good comparison. it lets you make a little one-page website, and people in fannish/"stan" circles on twitter use it to make extended bios, since you cant make one on twitter itself
Carrds (and also linktrees) are kinda online business cards. It's handy for artists, e.g. on twitter where you can add only one website address, to link to their carrd and put links to all social media on the carrd instead. Makes it easier to update links as well or kick out inactive accounts. It's also an easy way to create resource collections.
Idk if that was actually a question or not lmao, but I felt the urge to mention those carrds can be quite handy. If you actually have anything to put on them that is.
Really tho the corporatization (not sure if that's exactly the word I want) of the internet has made people far too comfy with sharing sensitive info, and combined with the tumblr culture of demanding insane levels of trauma and medical history from people it's become such an unhealthy and dangerous environment. I know it's become better in some ways too but I still mourn for the olden days lol. I'm restraining myself from making this tangent any longer but I specifically have to say it is SO not a good idea to put your triggers on blast to theoretically millions of people like... that's material that can be used to harass you!! I just want kids and everyone to be safer out there :((
