When Skydancers came out, we didn't get their lore for over a YEAR because they were designed by a kickstarter backer, and there was a lot of back and forth about their lore.
Also, there was a mild spat because they were very similar to the personal character of a well known dragon artist, so IIRC, there was also some damage control on that.
But a breed that was made with a completely random person not affiliated with the staff usually is already on a complete different base than a breed that was made completely kept within the staff. I feel like this is comparing apples and oranges the skydancer dude could have gone no contact forever and we'd never get the lore because after all they are still his creation in a way. this is the staff working on their own concept with their own time with no one sitting behind them having paid ... i forgot how much the breed KS tier was
yeah, definitely, i personally still find it embarrassing because it makes the staff look like they had no idea about their new dragon breed and now haphazardly try to piece some lore together in their game that already has weak and boring lore, after working like 5 years or maybe more on it.
I agree with that sentiment, but there's some small concerning things that are starting to become a pattern rather than a one-off thing. There's a LOT of lengthy delays going on with small parts of the site that isn't very good: many of the recent skin contests for monthly contests are opening weeks later than they used to, and sunparched prowl's news post - which they had promised on a certain day - ended up 2 days late which hurt a lot of the playerbase. These delays, as I have noticed, are getting longer and longer every time they happen.
If these things that take less effort - maybe even copypasting the year prior's skin contest posts and editing dates - than considerate lore development are showing up significantly late, it doesn't invoke good feelings about things getting done in a timely manner. Especially so since the things I mentioned are time-sensitive, when a lore drop can happen at any time.
Lore delay aside their communication delays are becoming noticeable and it's having an effect on the site and its playerbase. They REALLY need another admin like Aeq to communicate with the players, especially since Undel and Xhaz have been really quiet, save for the past few releases and IDR the last time I saw anything from Mutron (Grant, I know Xhaz and Mutron work "behind the scenes," but there's a serious bit of silence from the core staff.)
Can't tell if this slowdown is a partial aftermath of the pandemic last year, but it would be nice if they have someone else on board to help with the community side.
I just finished a quick a check on past Skin Contest threads, and Undel primarily posts them, with a few from Aequorin.
I think one of the admins just had a baby as well. Though obvs if your business is crippled by one person pulling back you've planned your staff needs very badly
Honestly I think the site is just outgrowing itself and all the features were designed soooo unscaleably that it's just bottlenecking
Yeah. I spent several years as a community administrator in a big gaming community running contests monthly, hiring mods, and communicating with the users transparently (as well as disciplinary actions), and it just STINGS to see these things slip so frequently. If they were willing, I'd absolutely be happy to get paid to do the same things for the site if it meant people had more faith in the staff and staff could get something like lore and other projects out.
But I really don't know their finances or if they could support another admin, even part-time. There's a lot of logistics to the training and the starting costs are absurd sometimes.
Don't forget the coliseum skin contest, which had almost every winner uploaded - only 12 missing - and then stopped for a week. No communication anymore. nothing, nada. I'm still confused about this and it's annoying.
"When Skydancers came out, we didn't get their lore for over a YEAR because they were designed by a kickstarter backer, and there was a lot of back and forth about their lore."
wow i must have missed that when they came out, care to spill the tea?
Not really so much tea as there was just a lot of double checking with the designer- I believe Scorpius designed them, and staff worked with them on their lore!
sorry i am a dumbass i meant to copy paste this quote

But, I'd rather wait for a well done article rather than one full of errors or stuff that gets reconned later bc it was rushed.
