Staff and the Obelisk encyclopedia article.

The devs know that we love their game, right? How long we've been waiting for Obelisk lore? That this is a bad way of rolling out a new breed?

It's been YEARS since a new modern. They had everything packed and ready to go on June 16, but not a few hundred words of breed info on a simple page?

And then they say three weeks ago that it will be in the next update, only to yank away the football with an unceremonial, "Whoops! Next time!"

I'm not going to mention the gene issues. I'm just salty that we've been waiting so long. And before you go all Skydancer on me, that's obviously different.

Dustcarve Dig is my favorite thing that's ever happened to the site, and to wait this long for lore is such a tease.

(Speaking of which, nothing worse than the crumbs they're throwing at Water.)

I LOVE this game, but as a creative mind I can't believe it would take this long to shove a few hundred words of important content into the encyclopedia for this gorgeous new breed...they came along with so much fanfare; we need the lore!

The missing obelisk lore post is at this point really embarrassing tbh, esp if you know the breed has been in works for some years now.
did they really not find time in all these years to write down some lore for the dragon breed they are working on?
did they not design the breed with some kind of lore or ideas in mind? like, what is this at this point.

this is a long shot, but i wonder if there's some sort of encyclopedia revamp coming along with the lore? maybe that's delaying things.

I would bet on this! I also think Dustcarve Dig is going to become a permanent feature, and that the anniversary version is still linked as a placeholder. If they're trying to bundle them in one update, that might be what's delaying things, if they're doing last minute bug fixes based on issues from anniversary rollout.

Wait, are you sure you aren't confusing the lore thing with the Snappers and the fat dragon things from that pet site that doesn't exist anymore?

ooo yeah, I can see the semblance here

But a breed that was made with a completely random person not affiliated with the staff usually is already on a complete different base than a breed that was made completely kept within the staff. I feel like this is comparing apples and oranges
the skydancer dude could have gone no contact forever and we'd never get the lore because after all they are still his creation in a way. this is the staff working on their own concept with their own time with no one sitting behind them having paid ... i forgot how much the breed KS tier was

yeah, definitely, i personally still find it embarrassing because it makes the staff look like they had no idea about their new dragon breed and now haphazardly try to piece some lore together in their game that already has weak and boring lore, after working like 5 years or maybe more on it.

I agree with that sentiment, but there's some small concerning things that are starting to become a pattern rather than a one-off thing. There's a LOT of lengthy delays going on with small parts of the site that isn't very good: many of the recent skin contests for monthly contests are opening weeks later than they used to, and sunparched prowl's news post - which they had promised on a certain day - ended up 2 days late which hurt a lot of the playerbase. These delays, as I have noticed, are getting longer and longer every time they happen.

If these things that take less effort - maybe even copypasting the year prior's skin contest posts and editing dates - than considerate lore development are showing up significantly late, it doesn't invoke good feelings about things getting done in a timely manner. Especially so since the things I mentioned are time-sensitive, when a lore drop can happen at any time.

"When Skydancers came out, we didn't get their lore for over a YEAR because they were designed by a kickstarter backer, and there was a lot of back and forth about their lore."

wow i must have missed that when they came out, care to spill the tea?

ayrt

sorry i am a dumbass i meant to copy paste this quote

"Also, there was a mild spat because they were very similar to the personal character of a well known dragon artist, so IIRC, there was also some damage control on that. "

i was just wonderung what artist this is referring to

i may be the minority but i just super don't give a shit about the lack of lore. FR is honestly really bad at writing lore and the majority of it is just.... bad, so i ignore all of it. it's weird to me that people are so hungry for it still

i'm pretty eh on it as well - i forget the dragon species lore half the time because i ignore it anyway lol. my faes are loud and expressive and my pearlcatchers probably just shove their pearls away in storage and forget about it. like, ill read the obelisk lore when it comes out, but it's not gonna affect my own.

+1

i haven't read any lore pages except the ones for the four basic breeds, and i ignore 90% of what's in those lmfao.

I take their lore, pull out the good pieces and yeet the rest. And I do love some stuff, like the Veilspun hypnosis(not for the horrible perverted reason of that one dude. It fits a shadow breed that's been around that long while tiny.), SD magic and emotion sensing, and coatl prehensile tails.

i throw out a good bit of the lore we get but i'm still hungry for it because i like it as a starting point.
