youre not harming anybody by doing this and basing a character off somebody you know in real life is really normal. but the way youre approaching this and asking this question suggests you might be an asshole unrelated to this specific action
your method of revenge is harmless and will never make it back to them unless you make it rlly obvious. so youre not an asshole specifically for doing it. but trying to morally justify petty revenge as righteous still rots your soul and looking for validation about that revenge anonymously on the internet by listing all the bad things your enemy did is pretty cringe. your asshole move is being the kind of person to post on amitheasshole or nuclearrevenge. learning to be the bigger person will make you happier in the long run
You're entitled to your opinion I guess? I'm more upset about having my experiences/traumas trivialized by this person while they take my ideas (inspired by my life) word for word, and I felt an anon board with no stakes for validation was the most suitable place to talk about it instead of a big subreddit. The art twitter comment was really unnecessary too, but you do you.
Not sure why everyone else is being weirdly high and mighty about this lmao. That's what's cringe. You're not doing anything wrong by basing a character off of someone you know, good or bad. That's a very common to do! And youre not doing anything wrong by asking here to make sure it's not weird.
To give you an example of a well-known character: General Kirrigan from the Grishaverse series is based on the author's abusive ex. She's spoken in interviews how it was healing for her to imbue her personal experience into the story, and audiences have responded how it made them feel seen for having experienced similar things.
There are always going to be weirdos who go off like this. You're not doing anything wrong for asking a very normal question about a very normal thing to do..
In the future, you might get more relevant answers to a question like this from subreddits/discords that are specifically geared toward writing. :) If you want to remain anonymous, you can always make a throwaway acct on reddit!
I didn't know about General Kirrigan. I think I'll go read the author's interviews on her characters to get some more ideas and flesh my characters out a bit further. It's cool that she also draws inspiration from her own experiences, and it gave the audience something to connect with. Thank you, this was a helpful response!
also why are you looking for validation or approval from a petsite anon drama board on something you clearly want to do. just do it, you dont need strangers to tell you youre epic and based and awesome for turning someone whos wronged you into a villain in your story. people draw on their real-life experiences for stories all the time.
get your healing in whatever way is best for you. but do consider if youre doing this for petty satisfaction or actual recovery.
Fair enough. I don't see myself as perfect or great by any means, but I find that this outlet helped me in the moving on process. I asked the question because I was actually wondering if other people took this approach. Maybe I should have clarified that in my first post.
