You're entitled to your opinion I guess? I'm more upset about having my experiences/traumas trivialized by this person while they take my ideas (inspired by my life) word for word, and I felt an anon board with no stakes for validation was the most suitable place to talk about it instead of a big subreddit. The art twitter comment was really unnecessary too, but you do you.

Not sure why everyone else is being weirdly high and mighty about this lmao. That's what's cringe. You're not doing anything wrong by basing a character off of someone you know, good or bad. That's a very common to do! And youre not doing anything wrong by asking here to make sure it's not weird.

To give you an example of a well-known character: General Kirrigan from the Grishaverse series is based on the author's abusive ex. She's spoken in interviews how it was healing for her to imbue her personal experience into the story, and audiences have responded how it made them feel seen for having experienced similar things.

There are always going to be weirdos who go off like this. You're not doing anything wrong for asking a very normal question about a very normal thing to do..

SA

In the future, you might get more relevant answers to a question like this from subreddits/discords that are specifically geared toward writing. :) If you want to remain anonymous, you can always make a throwaway acct on reddit!

I didn't know about General Kirrigan. I think I'll go read the author's interviews on her characters to get some more ideas and flesh my characters out a bit further. It's cool that she also draws inspiration from her own experiences, and it gave the audience something to connect with.
Thank you, this was a helpful response!
