It's been long enough that I no longer have specifics, but the gist of it is that they found their Korean coworkers rigid, bossy, and ignorant as a general rule, and would complain about it all the time in a way that indicated they thought we'd agree with them that this was just how Koreans were.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
I'm fascinated by how closely their attitude tracks with the kind of thing I see happen in IRL interactions (or lack thereof). Conservatives vote in a way that will strip rights away, encourage hateful bigots, and just generally make everything worse, then they start spouting nice-sounding words about how they wish people were more open and accepting of those with different views than themself, and isn't it so sad how we can't all just get along??? Like fuck off, idiot, you're the reason why we can't get along. The mealy-mouthed bullshit is so much worse than outright foaming hatred for me. I can see why they're copping so many blocks.
My fodder are ritual sacrifices by my dragons to their deity, my progen has an outright line in her bio that her first sacrifice was the baby-daddy appointed by her former deity (RNG) that she sacrificed to change to her preferred one (the actual deity I chose)
from personal experience with my own family members, when someone says they want to have discourse because they "want to understand", it's really just them wanting the opportunity to retort with their own beliefs and try to convince/coerce you to understand them. it's less about understanding and more about being 'allowed' the chance to rebut your own beliefs.
The first guy sounds like they're just anxious to have your dudes and are erring on the side of extra communicative to make sure things are going smoothly or whatever. Maybe a little too much but it seems understandable. Especially if you didn't really respond back, they might've been thinking the worst.
Second situation is presumptuous and super weird though, that's not their business to comment on.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
I’m about to say something that’s probably not That Deep so feel free to totally brush this off. On Farglow’s page Varnish mentioned being bisexual, so now their entire spiel reminds me of the “gay people I respect/gay people I don’t respect” meme. Or it’s that very sad phenomena where an oppressed individual will verbally say they don’t mind hearing bigotry in an attempt to curry favor from bigots. Because they’re trying to cement themselves as one of the ‘good’ oppressed people, and the ones who get offended are the ‘bad’ ones.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
Tbh, my family is extremely conservative, but lately my mom has been doing her best to properly learn about LGBT+ people and how to correctly use pronouns and such. It's genuinely been such a wholesome experience because I came out as trans to her like five years ago and she's trying so hard to understand, but she's still so confused because google is a bitch and a half sometimes. Actually, two years ago on my birthday, she ended up apologizing profusely for not knowing how to properly refer to me in a gender neutral way in the card since she always called me by a gendered nickname for 20+ years, in the end I ended up giving her suggestions and the next year she used them! It was such a good feeling seeing her improve on something like that.
So, sometimes I feel like it's just overwhelming amounts of new information being thrown all at once and it's hard to unlearn things one has been taught for years on end. It's like a bad habit you're struggling to break. There's always bad actors - more often than not - but sometimes there's a few that are willing to learn.
Look, I agree they are annoying but claiming they are racist is super weird. From what I know their coworkers were not Korean but their Boss was, and he would delegate all stuff, company related or private, to TheUltimateOwl and their coworker because he did not speak a lick of the local language after being in the country for more than 15 years and they lamented that he would refuse to learn the language. All the comments you mentioned were directed at their Boss and not any coworker. And I would know, I had the misfortune of hanging around them for a while in one of my friends' servers. Never again.
Also because it was mentioned earlier: I do not think people understand that standard Email Answering jobs or secretary work is different from the US to where TheUltimateOwl lives. I know from friends that also live there that a secretary job is often three to five jobs bundled into one and you get paid a fraction of what surrounding countries get, for basically triple the workload.
>he did not speak a lick of the local language after being in the country for more than 15 years and they lamented that he would refuse to learn the language
anon. do you hear this. you know about xenophobia right.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
oh i know there's some trying to unlearn the old and embrace the new, and that it's not as impossibly rare as some people think it is, and that's why i said it's from my personal experience. i have one of those cases myself in my life. it is still by and large the exception for that population because accepting being wrong/accepting change that goes against what you knew for a large chunk of your life is not something humans are conditioned to handle without resistance (thanks generational trauma), and for those one or two cases, i have maybe 20 or more other non-conservative family members who don't even realize they actually do hold conservative beliefs and oppose anything that goes against them or tries to make them see those particular beliefs are conservative.
atp I'm going to assume anon is Owl trying to defend themself and shrug. I was there. I saw what they said. I saw how horrible they were to their friends, their coworkers, anyone not white and Hungarian, anyone who was a single parent, etc. I know what I saw. Owl, if you're reading this, there is a reason why so many people hate you.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
AYRT This has absolutely been my experience lol. Any time I express disagreement with a relative who brings up politics, it's not a discussion, it's just them waiting for me to be done talking so they can tell me how wrong I am. Over and over and over. And then they don't seem to have any clue why I don't interact with them as much as I used to, and why it's so surface level. I'd love to have real conversations, where we're actually both open minded and able to consider other points of view, but they don't want to and I'm so tired of trying.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
"I know a few hardcore conservatives who spend their evenings trolling liberals on social media - do you think they really care if you block them? They only laugh and dig their heels in deeper on their (misguided, in my opinion) notions, then go looking for the next troll victim. Your block is nothing more than a symbol of their victory to them."
why do you...know these people...
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
Not to mention that the point of blocking them is so I don't have to deal with them anymore. I couldn't care less how they feel about it. What trolls crave is attention, and in the long run blocking starves them of that.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
varnish comes from a conservative family, according to what they said.
and who cares about what the conservatives who go out of their way to make other people feel bad feel; the "victory" they get comes from a sense of spiteful gratification when the person they were talking to effectively sees no value in having their company. the person blocking is walking away victorious because it's seizing control over what they spend their time on. they are exercising their autonomy and the freedom to spend their energy on other people and things that are productive instead of wasting it on someone who wants them to be miserable.
Re: I appreciate staff's response to recent Events™
I've not only taken this thread as a very easy blocklist but also have decided to block every single person with "Christian" in their bio or signature. I've looked at so many profiles of conservatives in the last few days and they almost all have that, and I no longer trust anyone who announces that their Christian without also announcing that they're queer/disabled/etc. maybe all of this makes me a bad person but I am really so tired of interacting with bad people
I have never blocked anyone before now because I just like to be able to still read people's posts and see their lair and shit but Varnish is the first I added to my list. I can hear the sad conservative clown noises as they whined in that thread
This is slightly off the current topic but I have always been suspicious of this Varnish person actually being DayOwl who went inactive awhile back. Idk, I am probably just overthinking because when I first saw their coding I immediately thought of DayOwl, not much other evidence outside of that. They did seem pretty familiar with the game when they joined but that could always be because they used guides or had a previous account closed, I try not to jump to conclusions but I just can't help but draw the comparison between them. They also both have double progens which is also not crazy sus but just something I thought I'd point out.
Here is the coding for comparison, feel free to tell me I'm crazy lol DayOwl - https://web.archive.org/web/20241111154336/https://www1.flightrising.com/den/685276/2457494/1 Varnish - https://web.archive.org/web/20241111154348/https://www1.flightrising.com/lair/704771/2551499/1
