Whatever it was it wasn't labeled as "boring maintenance" or have the sleepy snapper emote anywhere.

NAYRT

FR staff, when doing maintenance, will give tells in the dev tracker if an update is backend, 'boring' updates that the users have nothing to really care about or interact with; it's routine. if an update has a sleeping snapper emote with a ZZZ emote next to it, that's what it means.

if an update DOESN'T have these emotes, however, this means there's something users can interact with, and therefore isn't 'boring' maintenance.

anon is telling you it's something to look forward to. we don't know what the maintenance is for, but staff has hinted it's not just routine. it's possible they just forgot to apply the emotes, but staff has gone out of their way to use this hint method so we can know when to temper our expectations when maintenance is scheduled.

Yep, exactly this! That's what I was trying to point out by bring up it wasn't labeled as boring. I hadn't realized some folks might not be familiar with how staff usually does updates/maintenance like that.

Typically maintenances lacking the "boring" label or sleeping snapper emote usually indicate new stuff like a new feature or something, a surprise sometimes, whereas the stuff labeled as boring is usually just some backend work users won't or need to care about. Users used to hype themselves up into a frenzy whenever ANY maintenance was announced, going crazy with theorizing over what new feature it was going to be- until Aeq steps in and squashes it announcing it being boring backend stuff. For a time "BACKEND HYPE!!!" was a meme in FRD because of this kind user behavior. lol So they started stating in the announcements for maintenance whether it was boring or not (onsite and off) to avoid any unnecessary hype altogether.

This time it seems like it was for a new scroll that flips dragon images! And some new apparel.

The g1 double and triple collecting types seem most likely to be into RMT.

The g1 collectors that aren't into the pricey stuff tend to just be dudes minding their own business hunting pretties in the fodder.

Anyone know if skins still work on the reflected dragons?

Undel said they will. The art files are simply flipped, not newly drawn with an alternate perspective, so there's no reason for skins (or apparel) to break.

Only ...not.

I collect a specific color double. I have quite a few, but I don't deal in RMT because IRL I'm a broke mother fucker, and I ain't risking my actual hard work.

You sound like a bitter little shit.

Dude. More likely =/= all the doubles collectors are doing this. No one’s accusing you specifically. While I don’t have comprehensive data, there do seem to have been more RMT’ers who collect the really expensive dragons rather than the ones who collect random XYZs. Historical data is also not an accusation. Chill.

a lot of users don't use the dev tracker, or even know about it at all since it's on the front page. then you add in that the emote hints were briefly mentioned by staff on maybe a few occasions, and it makes for pretty niche knowledge. it's unfortunate, since the dev tracker is a fantastic tool! it's so important to use chances like these to educate so others can use it efficiently.

Nah. You're just overreacting. I'm not attacking you. But almost no one breaks the rules to dumpster dive. They don't need to. They do it because they can't compete for high value g1s while obeying the rules. Thus the pattern is present.

I've been on the site a long time. I've seen a lot of shit in that time.

You are the unicorn. You have found some way of wealth generation within the rules that works. Take pride in it. Just like I sit over here on my hoard of old rare shit I got being there at the time and pretty g1s I dug out of the trash. Play in whatever way makes you happy as long as it breaks no rules.

You're right, I did overreact. It still sucks to think that someone might look at my lair and automatically assume that my collection came from being someone who deals in RMT.

FWIW when I see a lair full of a cool collection I don’t immediately think of RMT, I immediately think “this person must grind like nobody’s business”. It’s only if you see a really big collection and 0 evidence of other activity (no art shop/skin shop/evidence of regular normal FR activity) that things start to look mildly sus

Yeah I explicitly said not all G1 collectors are doing RMT. That was not a blanket statement. It has just historically been evidenced with a lot of banned big name collectors, especially those that collected the doubles, triples and low digit G1 dragons, G1 imps. And there is a tendency for rmt people to buddy up as friends and act as a group.

If you're out there, grinding your ass away to maintain your doubles collection then all the power to you and good for you for obeying the TOS.

Re: qionggui

(Anonymous) 2024-07-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, what else on this site takes the sort of money where it makes sense to RMT? Unless you look at KS fams or something, the biggest high-ticket items on here are G1s and skins/accents, and the Venn diagram for those collectors isn’t quite a circle but it’s pretty darn close.

Re: qionggui

(Anonymous) 2024-07-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Gen 1 triples, popular doubles, and light sprites. Nobody can make that kind of money overnight on the game unless they're a popular artist or skin-maker. Saving up for these goals over several months or years is possible, but it's not going to be obtainable from a few days of regular gameplay.

Re: qionggui

It’s massively frustrating to play fair and watch others autobuy high-price auctions, accumulate huge collections, and end up locked after a couple months… which happens pretty frequently, unfortunately. Users aren’t using RMT to buy a 150g dragon on the AH, they’re using it to obtain 100kg+ dragons. And the most common 100kg+ dragon sales are typically triples or VERY nice doubles.

I think part of this trend also has to due with the fact that dragons are SO easily and visibly tracked compared to items. There are lots of users that watch the doubles/triple G1 dragon search, so when a special dragon pops out, it instantly has a lot of eyes on it, including folks who RMT. If I have a KS item in my inventory (especially apparel), it’s not visible to others via search.

Re: qionggui

It would not surprise me at all if RMT buzzards stalk rare double, old dragon, or triple hatches and proceed to send a PM asking a seller to reach them offsite over a discord or have you. So they can offer USD for it. Or they might invite the prospective seller to a 'friend' group where the RMT occurs. I swear to God someone told me a story like that a few years ago or that a roundsey winner got locked because of this.

There have also been instances of people using rmt to buy accounts with expensive things on it, if not stolen accounts that were hacked into and sold. There appear to be whole websites devoted to that venture.
