Spooky Spite

An important update:

Due to a specific person being a complete child, comments are going to be screened by default.

This is only temporary, and I apologize for the inconvenience- this is going to be a pain in the ass for me, too, but multiple people have come forward about fears of doxxing, and this is the only way to make sure any doxxing is contained.

(This basically will force the doxxer to make a DW account to post any doxxing attempts unscreened, and will let me more reliably report them to DW staff/authorities.)

Again, I apologize, and will be working to unscreen comments as fast as possible, but I'm only one person.

(Vasemod has had some personal issues come up, so I am the only mod atm. Please bear with me until this bit of annoyance has passed.)

She's not just transphobic too she's also weird as fuck about Asian people. White but constantly gives her dragons Asian names, obsessed with kitsune imagery, etc.

DA this is def sus but tbf I feel like a good portion of anime fans in general are like this lol

Re: Saltmarsh

nayrt

so most anime fans are racist? bc being weird about east asian ppl is, in fact, racist. liking aesthetics is one thing but... yeah.

Re: Saltmarsh

NAYRT If that’s the way you feel about it then yeah, I guess they are. It’s no secret that there’s a massive obsession for East Asian culture, especially among anime enthusiasts. Not ALL of them but… a lot. I’ve known many people who watch anime and I’d say a large number of them have decided that "Asian" is their new favorite way of life, to the point of learning Japanese and similar. And tbh, Wind flight aesthetics on FR takes big inspo from those cultures, so that right there should show you how prevalent it is… whether it should be considered fetishization or just flattery is subjective.

tfw learning a new language is problematic.

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-25 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
tfw your native peoples language is dying out because it's cultural appropriation for others to learn it

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's a double edged sword, sadly.

my people's language has ONE book to learn syntax/grammar from, and ONE dictionary, and they're both by the same (now deceased) author, and my people are SUPER distrustful of outsiders learning the language because when they do, they use it for their white Wiccan shit.

I only knew a few words/phrases from my paternal grandmother, and wasn't allowed to learn bc my mother was a racist twat. So now I have to try to learn it from a book, and let me tell you- that shit is HARD, especially when you don't have anyone around that speaks it fluently to learn from.

DA

I really feel for you :/ at least with many more common languages you can watch movies/TV shows or read kids books to familiarize yourself with it. Plenty of people have learned English from consuming American media.

AYRT

Thanks. It's also more convoluted because there's MANY dialects/vernacular that are similar but JUST different enough that it can cause mistranslation issues.

EG: The word for an outsider SOUNDS the same across most of the variations, but they're all spelled differently- some drastically so. Also, there's some differences that have caused some fights with some mutuals on social media where a word that means "incorrigible" in their variation means "twat/cunt" in mine. Lol WOOPS. (We had a laugh about it later once we'd cleared things up.)

The joys of being part of a diaspora lol

AYRT lol my point was not that learning Japanese by itself is bad, it’s that it’s often combined with an almost unhealthy obsession with their culture or people. The people I was talking about that I know personally we’re 20 something white guys who REALLY liked Asian women and watched a lot of hentai.

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-26 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Again, sounds like your run of the mill weeb. They're cringe, but not doing much besides that, because we all know they think "2D women are better than 3D women" or something like that.

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-25 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
DA yeah I don't think learning Japanese belongs on this list lol. But your point about it being subjective is very true. I am from another Asian culture and if a random white westerner did all that with my culture I wouldn't really care. It's not hurting me or the people back home, and I have met plenty of people with a particular fascination for my culture who are cool about it. I actually really like when that happens bc it helps me feel proud of my culture. But if someone tried to profit off of my culture in a way that exploited my people, or was only interested in it in a condescending or clinical way or something, that would be a problem.

AYRT
I think you missed the context of what I said. Learning Japanese isn’t weird if you like the language and the culture and want to communicate with the people. Learning Japanese IS weird if you’re doing it because you "identify" as a Japanese person when you’re not, or because you find Asian people sexy and you’re obsessed with them. There’s a line between normal and weird, and the people I knew we’re firmly in the weird territory.

i think i need more deeds on that than "gives dragons asian names", sorry. not defending saltmarsh, the transphobic shit already made them unlikeable to me, it's just that racism is a pretty serious thing to accuse someone of and i haven't read about "being weird about asians" in the screenshots provided so far

(different anon) well, not caring that they used a slur against Aboriginal people is straight-up racist already.
the other anons are talking about a pretty common form of racialized fetishism.
feel free to peep the lair & come to your own conclusions.

clan bio specifies "no pronouns"

first den tab description:

"I cannot play with you," the fox said "I am not tamed."
"If you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world."
"Goodbye," said the fox. "Here is my secret. It's quite simple: One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."

FWIW this is a quote from The Little Prince. Like, word for word. I don’t know how that impacts one way or another, since I haven’t done any in-depth studies of that since freshman high school, but that’s not something that they came up with.

yeah, i just thought to copy the text from the biggest permadragon tab since i know most people probably won't click through. no implication intended with its inclusion.
the "no pronouns" quote from the bio seemed relevant tho - could be a personal identity, or a dig at people who Do include pronouns in their bios. i have a tough time deciphering tone on the Internet

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-25 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
i know plenty of lgbt people who prefer not to be named with pronouns, instead you say their name instead. sounds a bit weird at first but if they want that, that's cool to me. if it's a dig at people who state their pronouns in bio, it's a bad one.

this is 90% of white people on petsites tbh. if I had a penny for everybody who wasn't asian and named their dragons asian names I'd be a quadrillionaire

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-24 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
lol this is one of the few times I'm grateful my language/culture isn't well known to white folks.

Re: Saltmarsh

(Anonymous) 2023-11-25 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see the problem with this though? Its just names, now if they were appropriating the culture it would be different and it would be cool for more than just popular Japanese names because of anime were used, but yea. Its not inherently bad to use names outside of your culture, otherwise I'd have to name all my dragons Bob and Susan (I name my dragons things like Sandstorm or Puddles anyways lol).
