Spooky Spite

An important update:

Due to a specific person being a complete child, comments are going to be screened by default.

This is only temporary, and I apologize for the inconvenience- this is going to be a pain in the ass for me, too, but multiple people have come forward about fears of doxxing, and this is the only way to make sure any doxxing is contained.

(This basically will force the doxxer to make a DW account to post any doxxing attempts unscreened, and will let me more reliably report them to DW staff/authorities.)

Again, I apologize, and will be working to unscreen comments as fast as possible, but I'm only one person.

(Vasemod has had some personal issues come up, so I am the only mod atm. Please bear with me until this bit of annoyance has passed.)

oh man im glad youre going for it! i remember that post, tropical tundras sound cute
and i like soap as a gene too, but it looks like ass with some colors no matter what you do -- i think thats just a product of how the automated coloring that picks from the color's palette does it. kind of like how irishim is FUCKED with some colors

and i totally agree with you about the 'ew' stuff. people on FR really have no shame when it comes to shitting on things other people like, and a lot of that comes from being annoying teenagers who grew up on twitter. i wish people could learn to be nicer and just find something to compliment about a dragon. like.. even if you hate tundras, whats the harm in going "oh, shimmer with that color is really cute" or some kind of basic compliment. point out what you like instead of what you hate.........

I see where you’re coming from, and I also see why people are uncomfortable with it.

I think it’s roughly equal parts the perceived lack of effort and the discomfort with current AI image generators. FR has a big population of artists, many of whom follow the AI copyright debates and are unhappy that their art may be being used without their permission or compensation for someone else’s profit. So seeing that happen with a different AI image brings up a lot of those objections.

Additionally though, people tend to buy art dragons because of additional perceived effort that’s been put into them. I won’t deny that there’s some knowledge involved in getting a generator to spit out the image you want, but it’s nowhere near the time and skill it requires to make an art piece like that from scratch in the first place. It’s not even in the same order of magnitude of time. So no one really wants to pay art dragon prices for dragons with AI images. I recall the dragons in question are XXY G1s, so there’s reason to price them higher in the first place, but even so.

the beef is calling it fun to begin with. you can have all the nuance you want about it, but at the end of the day, ai & art theft are heavily linked. ai is not art.

we are living in the weirdest time ever. this might sound unrelated at first but hold on let me get into it

one time i was out walking with my gf at the park and someone coming down the other way took a picture of us with their fancy camera. young gen zer who didn't ask permission or say anything to us as we passed each other after. i wasn't threatened but it was uncomfortable and if they had asked, i would have said no. but legally, they didn't have to. i would like to think that i own my face, but i don't. there's no expectation of privacy in public, which the definition of has expanded to include everyone and everything online. it's all a commodity, and the way it all gets torn apart and put back together like frankenstein's monster can have some very horrifying results

even before ai art was a big topic there was commercialization of famous art styles filling the pockets of people who have never picked up a brush. can ai art transformative like a starry night esque mug on etsy? i think it definitely depends on what's feeding it, but i also think the cat is very much out of the bag already with all the data available to anyone who can type a search into google images. i wish i was a cat

If you're in plague, and use sheet to track badges/progress, you can just let raffle runner know you are in interested in raffle as a whole or in prize you got pulled for, NTA.

NARYT

Or, just don't answer at all. Sometimes, if you don't like something, you don't *have* to reply.

Too many people think that just because they are anonymous (and I mean in the general 'you never know who is behind a username' anon, not 'not logged in so all posts show up as anonymous' way) they don't have to have any courtesy and can do what they want, including insult others.

the current casual argument about ai art reminded me of a time i drew something and was really proud of it bc drawing is REALLY hard for me and i posted it in a server (not FR related) and got told id used an ai to create it and they threatened to ban me if i couldnt prove it

anyway fuck AI bc it doesnt just hurt the artists its stealing from. its created a toxic atmosphere of, if your anatomy is fucked up bc you arent good at art, you can be dogpiled by artists that are "better" than you

the light at the end of the tunnel is that there's legislation being passed over ai media, because ai is a much more specific thing than just hijacking someone else's style.

this whole post reads like white noise static to me

you know the just because things are bad doesn't mean they need to stay that way? just because you've accepted it doesn't mean that artists need to.

also using copywritten subject matter to create transformative artwork is literally the furthest thing away from AI generators stealing artwork from artists.

do you have links? i'm not familiar with any current legislative action over creative works aside from the hollywood writer's strike and i didn't think that included usage of an actor's likeness to make ai content

Copyright expires. People can use Starry Night/the Mona Lisa/Water Lilies etc on stuff because it was made long enough ago that it’s in public domain.

NAYRT

I'm pretty sure I have Elmer in one of those 3 starter island expansion houses. He's not in boxes rn but if you want I'm willing to TT and get him ready! The only caveat is I don't THINK I've gifted him anything BUT I'm not certain (like how villagers ask for stuff in your pockets or ask you to catch them a bug or fish)

No worries if you don't want him either, just figured I'd offer :)

+100 I'm not going on a crusade trying to make weird dragons popular or anything but people act so disgusted that they've seen my fluffy shiny muppet dragons lmao. It's aight tho like I've said before I'm having fun regardless of the haters.

Keep on keeping on!! :)

I forgot comments were screened and tried to start a thread, but it'll be confusing without the followup comment.

It was going to be: would you pay ~10000g for this dude?:

(and following up with other discussion about what's reasonable for this or that item)

Re: oh darn it

(Anonymous) 2023-10-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
no i wouldnt tbh, its a nice double but not 10kg nice imo

Re: oh darn it

(Anonymous) 2023-10-26 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
i am g1 collector and have followed the market for years so id like to think i have a somewhat informed opinion and imo no thats not worth 10kg
10kg sounds like an autobuy in an auction
realistically? 4kg ish if someone really likes the way soap or stained looks (its arguably very pretty w those genes) because the greens in turq dont really match the greens, and the blues in green dont match the turq, so stained is really its best look imo (mileage may vary)
it could go higher than 4kg in an auction but a realistic listing price for a regular sale would be 4-5kg with an open mind to haggling
and i will say, ive gotten similar doubles on the market for less than 1kg

Re: oh darn it

(Anonymous) 2023-10-26 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah 10kg is definitely not a price I'd pay for that dragon. Sadly, I don't like Green specifically (I dislike the red accents) and it doesn't match well with the accents in Turquoise.

Like what the others said- maybe 3-5kg, and that's being generous.

(For reference, I have an XYY that has matching accents, but ONLY with specific sandsurge genes, so I have it listed for 800g on the AH, and even then, I'm not expecting to get more than 500g for it.)

It all comes down to genes and personal taste

Re: oh darn it

(Anonymous) 2023-10-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
green is unpopular, i would price it at 2-4kg max

totally different anon but ok buddy

if this many people are misunderstanding you, maybe you need to take a look at the way you communicate with people. it's weird to keep pretending like everyone else is too stupid to understand you, but you make absolutely no effort to explain your point of view better.

maybe everyone is struggling to understand and misinterpreting your opinion on AI art because you think it's cute to not answer when people think your posts are vaguely defensive towards AI art. because that's exactly how your posts sound.

you just look kind of dumb acting like this ngl
