nonny, if you read further up in this thread you'll see people acknowledging that self-diagnosing can be valid and helpful and that medical diagnosis is expensive and sometimes unobtainable.
That doesn't change the fact that self-diagnosis can be wrong. I once thought I had BPD and self-diagnosed it. Turns out I have ADHD and the symptoms that made me think I had BPD (RSD, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, etc.) came from that. Self-diagnosis can be wrong and even dangerous depending, and for a lot of these kids self-diagnosing with DID is nothing more than a desire to fit in or a misplacement of symptoms.
I promise you the people who say they have tommyinnit or naruto alters or whatever do not actually have DID. it does not work like that. they're just trying to find a place they can fit in and doing what they have to to make it work or they do have some form of mental illness/disorder, and they're misplacing what it is.
