back at it again with an off-topic thread. for those not in the loop, Paw Borough is a cat based petsim in development that has had a little bit of FR related wank in the past, but that sort of stuff hasn't really cropped up since then. And this is the part where I would say "until now!", but that wouldn't really be true. this is only adjacently related to FR, and it's just about a little itty bitty mechanic known as the color wheel.
TL;DR the most recent update on the kickstarter page announced they will be foregoing the color wheel system for breeding in favor of... HSL? Hue, Saturation, and Luminosity. I won't get into the details of all of that, but what's important here is that some people are reaaaally pissed off about it. The people who wanted a FR cat clone, specifically.
Who is better, Paw Borough color system, or the one Wajas is rocking where it just mashes hex codes & patterns together into a muddy mess if you don't plan your shit out in advance?
Benefits to the Wajas system are mutations (I guess I'd compare them to line-breaking ancient genes), the ability to carry passive traits that can be passed on to offspring, and being able to breed as many patterns as you want into your Wajas. Like if one dragon could have "berry basic+mauve hex+ruby fade/red iridescent+orange hypnotic/white polkadot+silver circuit+black firebreather+pink soap"
i only ever played a little bit of wajas bc i wasnt really into the way it worked or the art style but i won't lie those mutations were dope as hell and i did like having multiple markings. lioden is kinda close in that regard but not really. especially since they also have pet death.
if paw borough's breeding system turns out good maybe some other project can take it and do something fun without the limitation of three gene slot system? much to think about.
