Hope you don't mind additions, anon, but I might also suggest that the older dom team members work on their ability to relinquish power to newer members of the team. I've seen really great dom teams stalled and hurt by their unwillingness to adopt changes or adaptations that the newer members are suggesting, which seems to be Arcane's issue. You'll choke yourself out that way, so give the newer members a chance to establish themselves and figure out new paths.
Re: Suggestions for Arcane Dom (and other struggling teams)
I'm not in Arcane or the suggestions poster (great list btw). I do have an alternate perspective when it comes to newer members figuring out new paths. Most of the time it has nothing to do with older members wanting to hold onto power or having difficulty adapting to change. Trust me. They want new, enthusiastic, capable, motivated volunteers. Running dom is exhausting. That is why so many dom leaders get burned out.
The site is 10 years old now. Dom is not exactly complicated. When new people come in, they are passionate about their flight and they have a ton of ideas. If you have a fresh new idea, by all means, throw it out there. I guarantee that your dom team wants to hear it. Most dom teams love new ideas that will actually work. But there are multiple reasons why a lot of ideas are not implemented.
- 9 times out of 10, your idea is not new. - Your flight has already tried it and it doesn't work. - Another flight has already tried it and it doesn't work. - It's a great idea, but is overly complicated to implement. - It's a great idea, but your flight dom culture won't support it. - There are not enough volunteers or participants to support it. - Your idea makes things harder on flight members (i.e. excessive recording/cost) - Your idea only benefits a handful of people or allows you to personally profit.
In all honestly though, it's usually that it's been tried and doesn't work or that you haven't realized that the logistics of your idea are far too complicated to implement. Your older dom team members have been around for a while. They have experience in knowing what your flight will and will not accept regarding change. Most likely they've lived through being dragged on a drama site for an unpopular decision or three and probably multiple discord dom shitshows. And you are right, they should be allowing newer members to establish themselves and create new paths forward. But newer members should also be willing to listen to the reasons why something may or may not work. Sometimes coming in and completely changing things is not the best course of action or won't work for your flight.
