i got my first random message on FR asking me to rename a dragon because it's an 'upsetting' name (their message was "Hi. I saw you have a dragon named Parvo. I think a different name would suit her better, because parvo is a virus in dogs that more often than not leads to death. It's rather upsetting to me and others to see a dragon casually named after something like that, and if you'd like help thinking of new names I'd love to give you some suggestions!")

IMO it's not totally rude to reach out to someone and talk politely about something that seems upsetting, but I definitely think this could have been approached better. like "idk if you knew but this dragon name is associated with something upsetting and gives the wrong impression to some people." something that starts a convo rather than assumes negative intent. but the implication that you intentionally named the dragon after the virus is a reach. I've honestly never even heard of the word until now, this is a random name I could've come up with without thinking it meant anything, or would've accepted from the random name generator.
it's also just latin for small. like i totally get the negative associations with the disease, but it's also its own word in latin, and used as a prefix in other words than parvovirus (parvoclass, parvocellular, parvowinchite).

i disagree, i think it's HELLA rude to do that. this is like the jehovas witnesses of "talking about things that might be upsetting". they randomly go up to your door/messages and thrust some ideal into your face to change your mind

It's not the players job to reach out. A name is either against the rules or it's not. If it's against the rules, report it. If it's not against the rules, it's none of your business. If you aren't sure, report it and let the staff deal with it.

Seriously, I quite frequently report names to staff, and some of them do get unnamed. Saw a user get namechanged and banned at reports before.
But I never directly contact a user. As far as I'm concerned, if some edgelord is using racial slurs and adult names, it's best to let staff clean it up and punish the user responsible. You do the crime, you do the time.

then they excitedly started talking to me about aethers, and showed me their hatches and said they were going to breed them for the special eye colors and i explained to them how the gene system in FR works because they did not understand it (eye colors and types dont get passed down,)
when they link me images they put the link to the dragon in img tags so its just. broken bbcode. so i have to go to their lair to see the dragon so i can encourage them that their plans are cute regardless of if i think they are or not lol
then i gave them a baby from a breeding project im doing (it was a failure hatch id have been exalting anyway) and they named it after a tiger species because it has tiger, and was very excited

Lol how the fuck did you get the staff to actually change names on the dragon? I once reported a dragon name for a dragon who was an offspring to one of my dragon pairs, that was explicitly named after my account along with a rude word, and it's probably ten years ago now. It's still like that lmao. I've since exalted the dragons that had the offspring in their list so I'm not as annoyed by it, but still :V

Bad luck? Or it possibly didn't break site rules. Ten years ago would have been when the site first opened. I report usernames and dragon names that are inappropriate if I come across them. I've reported a handful over the years and all of them have been reset/changed except the one I wasn't sure about.
Honestly, a lot depends on severity.
Also, I'm shocked staff did nothing on that, I've seen lesser crimes acted on.
Also, Tumblr and drama blogs can help with more awful ones getting handlef, such as the account formerly known as milfs4life and their crude mess of a lair.
