Sure, but that sounds like a "you" problem, not a "that achievement is fucking stupid and shows the devs dont even remotely play their own game" problem or a "Am I really the only one thinking that is fucking stupid and should not be an achievement?" problem?
For whatever it's worth, they are indeed not the only one who thinks that.
Yes, many achievements are much more difficult, time-comsuming, expensive, or even purely luck-based. (Looking at you, ten-correct-higher/lower-answers-in-a-row. Five-egg nests. Etc.)
But the point is that all of those things are normal, positive, encouraged site behavior. They're all with an eye towards 'winning' the game, if you like.
Progen restore (and, imo worse, 3-month-cooldown-triggering dragon restore) are not positive and not things any player really 'hopes' to 'achieve'. They're meant to be emergency buttons to rescue you from a bad situation (accidental or regretted exalts). The fact that we're being encouraged to use that function unnecessarily, as a lark to get an achievement, feels weird.
(Is there an achievement for the whole 'go idle for three months and get your dragons automatically fed back up when you return' thing? I haven't searched exhaustively, but my guess would be no. Because of course the devs don't want you to need to use that feature. And I don't understand why exalt restore is different.)
I suspect that they're using these as a way to teach people how to use various site functions, because the tutorial is shit and these functions are explained in announcment threads throughout the years instead of on one place and some are barely noticable - like people not knowing about select feeding, restoring dragons and/or items, dragon profile vistas...
Exalting and restoring lv25s after is pretty common for dom battles. One battle in two years occassion that isn't riddles with regret exalts perhaps. >>;
achievements only being for positive things is not really accurate, though. theres acheievements for getting wrong answers on games like higher/lower, getting killed in the coli, missing 3 attacks in the coli, etc. achievements are given for certain mundane or special activities that occur while you play the game, its not inherently about the "winning" milestones.
also progen restore isnt inherently bad or good. its just a feature added so that people can get them back if they exalted them, either accidentally or years ago. i truly struggle to understand why this is considered some kind of bad thing to need to do, its literally set up to be as easy as possible to restore them. yes i understand that there may be moral associations with exaltation, but its a game mechanic as is the progen restore system, and as part of /the game/ fr admins will want to direct users to play with it
Yeah, there is an achievement for getting all 10 Tomo Answers wrong. I saw the one about having all three dragons KOed in the coli, though I missed the one about Higher/lower (that one would be super easy for me :P)
So, yeah, not all achievements are 'positive'.
Exalting is part of the game. Dragon restoration is part of the game. Achievements are little 'awards' for playing the game, which includes exalting and restoring dragons.
Also, I highly doubt that FR means for you to exalt and restore dragons 'as a lark' but rather, again, those achievements are meant to be achieved during normal play of the game. It is just like the old 'hatch a dragon with Clown' achievements, where I had to buy two dragons specifically for that, because I hate clown. For many people, that would have been something they obtained during normal gameplay, but since I didn't like clown, I had to go out of my way to obtain that one.
This is the same. For a lot of people, exalting and restoring dragons is just something that will happen during normal gameplay. Maybe not often, but I am sure that most people who exalt dragons, especially large amounts of them, will eventually have one they regret exalting and restore it. Achievement done. Many people exalt their progens, then come to regret it. (thus the whole 'you can send a ticket in and have your progens unexalted' and the whole 'you can exalt/unexalt your progens as many times as you want!') Thus, again, achievement done during normal gameplay for those people.
For people like me, who isn't into exalting (yet, going to try) and has never exalted her progens? To get that achievement, I am going to have to go out of my way to obtain it.
DA Not only specifically to this comment, but in general to this thread: everyone complaining or white-knighting those that complain, do you all really have no better things to do on FR but make an Everest out of less than 5 minute non-mandatory achievement of exalting/restoring a progen, a thing that a lot of players do with their unfortunately colored random progens? Even for a drama site, this is pathetic, especially the attempt in the higher comment to turn that into 'negative behaviour' (what the fuck).
My random progen actually came out with pretty colors.
I don't have a problem with exalting. Exalting is my main source of FR income. But I've never exalted my progens and I don't particularly want to. Seems like there are at least a couple of people here who feel that way. I don't think exalting progens is negative behavior, it's just not something that I would have ever done on my own and I resent having to do it. Am I going to do it? Yeah. At some point. Probably around the time I've bred 3000 fucking ancient dragons.
I find it kind of amusing that you are taking time out of your day to comment on people not having better things to do than bitch about an achievement.
if youre looking for a place to bitch about stuff without the risk of people commenting or criticizing it, i'd recommend a diary or journal. not the place where people talk drama.
I mean, my random progen came out with good primary/secondary but horrible tert (and matches my custom except the tert), so I haven't exalted my progens and never planned to as well. I still might not actually do it.
However, I don't resent the idea that it is an achievement. If I ever decide to do it, I don't resent having to do it. It is just part of the game.
