The real question is how central are stones to gameplay being comfortable, and how accessible are they without buying them. I can play FR comfortably without ever buying gems. Could someone do it with Lorwolf?
I'm honestly asking, because it feels like from the amount of times I've seen people claim them expensive, my suspicion is there's something missing here.
Also, no stake in the game as I don't want wolves and really don't care. I just am curious about reactions
Basically the overall feel of the game is a cash grab. Tons of advertising merch and limited time only exclusive cash-only items. I would say it's possible to play the game without spending money, but it's not especially fun or comfortable to do so without spending money. Much like a mobile game, every action costs energy and so you're constantly being gated by limited energy. Every method to gain energy costs energy, so you're caught in a miserable loop of grinding so you can continue grinding. But with the starter pack you get regular and premium currency to buy food and you get energy restoring items.
This is precisely how I felt given how much physical and in-game merchandise and overpriced KS items they were willing to sell before anything launched. It's clear to me the developers haven't designed their game for the long run, and given how bugged the site is DESPITE people pointing out those same bugs in beta or EA, I doubt they care to do any upkeep with the site once it hits peak profits in the near future, unless that already happened during kickstarter. Literally there was a bug that killed someone's KS items in a trade for something else, because they sent the trade at the same time as someone else sent trade items back to them. The developers were allegedly aware of that same bug during EA and did nothing.
Wow that sucks. I'm definitely not playing. I feel like FR is the only team doing pet games right anymore. They decided to make a great game first. At the very least you need to make a game that works
Damn, LW staff really said Pay2Play. In EA you could pay for cooking and mining expansions with regular currency. Now they've changed it to premium currency. Cooking expansion is a negligible benefit but Mining will be almost impossible without expanding how much your cart can hold.
I will say this, though- it's a LOT better than Wolvden. It's not just pay to play in terms of expansion, but also in terms of having more than like... five wolves.
At least with Lorwolf, their stamina regenerates instead of decreasing, and they don't die/run away. Food is easy to come by, so it's easy to keep them fed, and you can swap between wolves for various jobs/exploring.
But energy isn't tied at all to premium currency. The starter pack has some water in it, sure, but the vast majority of your energy is going to come from on-site activities like Campaign (the equivalent of the coli), Farming, Fishing, and Cooking (turning raw food into processed food). It's not at all like a mobile game.
I'm also not sure where you're seeing limited time exclusive cash-only items either. Outside of kickstarter items (which: spoiler -- FR set the model for and LW only copied FR), there doesn't seem to be anything limited on LW, and anything for cash can be purchased through earning the premium currency on site.
Wank is all well and good but im not sure where you're getting these numbers- you can see on the premium currency shop that it's about 10 dollars per 100 stones + the bonus from buying larger bundles

(Anonymous) 2023-05-06 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)If you want their equivalent of a WC/Coatl, they're 150-200 stones.
To get 150-200 stones, you literally have to spend 50+
Say you want both- that's 350 stones. To get 350 stones, you have to spend 50+
On FR, if you wanted 2 WC/Coatl scrolls, it's 40$.
The gem to dollar ratio makes more sense than the stones to dollar ratio and that kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
