I hope this is appropriate to post, if not then I deeply apologize.
With the release of the new ancient, and the "two minds in one body" characteristic of them, I'd like to direct this to the users with DID or OSDD, aka systems that play flight rising.
How do you feel about that trope, and people possibly using that in their lore? About people who might use the "evil alter" stereotype? Just, how do you feel about them in general?
Sorry, I am not really sure how this is related to DID. These dragons literally have two heads. If anything they have more in common with people who are cojoined twins.
I’m guessing this got asked because of the thread I mentioned in the comment below yours lmao. I’ve heard this same conversation over and over again with other things in media, so it doesn’t really surprise me that much.
Hi, DID system here. I know this is an anonymous site and all but you just gotta trust me on this lol.
Not sure if you saw/participated in the thread that basically said “i don’t have DID but you shouldn’t make aberrations have DID!!!!” as it got taken down later. (I haven’t seen the thread, I just heard about it after the fact.) But I want to expand on that.
I do not care. I’m just going to let people do what they want with their lore. Hell, even I’m going to make some DID dragons probably, because I want to! If someone else wants to do it just let them.
Even if someone ends up using the “evil alter” trope I’ll just let it slide because I genuinely do not care about a single person’s dragon petsite lore. It’s a world of difference between a dragon’s bio, and a blockbuster movie that portray people with DID like that.
The thread apparently had a lot of people *without* DID say people never should make aberrations with it. And… that feels incredibly wrong. You don’t get to decide for us. The people *with* DID/OSDD even said they didn’t care. Please don’t speak over us.
tl;dr we don’t care. Go make your DID/OSDD dragons. Be free
I think that more people should be taught that fiction is not facts despite perhaps having some facts in it, rather than trying to purge or otherwise demonize fiction that's not totally true.
Example: one of my previous fandoms rather randomly created a 'all fics must show preparation for sex, otherwise it's bad and must not be read' "rule" which caused my immediate exodus from there because no matter how much you try, fiction will leave out crucial details and won't be "real" and, frankly, I don't want to read about enemas or douching or whatever in each fic. Similar case with your DID/evil alters/etc - no matter how much you try, fictional portrayals will not be equal to real and as such there's no need to try to make them real, true-to-fact portrayals.
I have OSDD-1a, and I don't care about some dumb dragon lore by an ignorant kid.
The main issue is movies. There are SO many movies where DID/OSDD is misclassified as being a cause of unspeakable violence, evil, or toxic, and I'm tired of it.
A handful of kids writing lore about a split personality for a two-headed dragon doesn't cause anywhere near the level of harm a movie can do.
