I'm sure there are other religions where the followers have to avoid socializing, computers, etc. (I'm a bit ignorant, but aren't some Islamic holidays similar with fasting and only spending time with family, so phones and shit aren't allowed? I know one of my coworkers once took a day off because of that- because of an Islamic holiday where he couldn't interact with a computer or tech or something, but IDR what holiday it was.)

Don't see posts about that. It's almost like this isn't so much of a religious obligation as it is serious FOMO.

If you choose to take part in restrictions of your faith, that is on YOU, and in some/many religions, sacrifice is a part of the holiday/event etc. I have religious holidays where I have to go dark off the internet as well as physically silent IRL, and yeah, it sucks, there's the itch to go online, to talk to folks, but I do it as part of my faith, and I don't expect other people to make exceptions for me because of it.

A site with 500k users should not have to suddenly change a planned event because of FOMO.

its possible there's no posts about other religious events because none of them happen to actually be coming up in the next 3-4 days that this event is probably going to last, and its the first time we've had any event where a stage lasted less than one day.

we also don't know the staff's exact plans for the event, so we don't know if it actually is important to them (or pre-planned to begin with) that each stage last a day. i wouldn't be surprised if the next few stages go a little slower as the initial hype wears down, making the whole thing moot.

AYRT

Oh, I meant in general- I don't often see other folks from various religions asking for extensions, etc for other events that fall on their holidays.

yeah, but have we ever had a case where an event fell exclusively on a religious holiday before? the assumption the thread's running with is that each stage is going to only last a single day, and as far as i can remember we've never had a situation parallel to that before to draw comparisons from. (though like i said, i think that's probably gonna turn out to be moot anyway, since tunnel 2 lasted longer than tunnel 1)

nayrt, but shabbat isn't a specific holiday per se, it's every friday evening to saturday evening (sort of like how sunday is the christian day of rest). so it's not the same as scheduling an event on like idk, eid or christmas.

i agree w/you that it's probably gonna end up being a moot point anyways though.

yeah i'm aware of that. i'm not accusing fr staff of, like, doing the equivalent of scheduling an event on christmas only. it's just slightly unfortunate timing that the staff probably didn't think about because they're not omniscient, lol.

oh yeah, i don't think this is anything other than unfortunate timing, and fortunately i don't think anyone is accusing staff of being intentionally antisemitic (because they're not lol). i just wanted to clarify in case you didn't know--i didn't know v. much about judaism until relatively recently--sorry if i sounded condescending!

nah, you're fine, and it's good that you spoke up just in case! i just wanted to clarify my view because i wasnt sure if i sounded like i was calling the staff or the event antisemetic.
