Are you by chance talking about the person who was asking for opinions on their prizes for their art contest, with the top prize being something like 5kg? I was trying to find a nice way to say that art contests kind of feel like scams when you're picking like 15 winners and the least good prize is like... baldwin mats.

Art contests in general feel like scams like, just because the entry didn't win doesn't mean you didn't get more art for a character so like???

i was actually thinking of the thread with the invisible dragon (one prize for best art, one prize for closest to the scry, prize unspecified), but it's all too common for art contests to give out stuff like random familiars and skins, or a couple hundred gems, max. (honestly, top prize 5kg, more than one prize over the 1kg mark, and FIFTEEN WHOLE PRIZES is better than the vast majority. all it's missing is consolation prizes imo.)

Oh okay that's much worse wtf. And no I agree it's better than most but art contests still rub me the wrong way even with numerous prizes. There will still be people who create art that won't be properly compensated for their work, and as I said, just because they don't win a prize doesn't mean they didn't draw art for someone's OC so it's not like that art typically disappears.

I couldn't find the topic and that's the only one I could think of besides the gem prizes. I still think artists deserve more for their time lol
