I have to go to suicide prevention training for work tomorrow. Not only do I have a ton of shit to do but I really hate how it’s an issue that disproportionately affects white men. I wish we could do something that is more beneficial for women and minorities. Why do so many white men commit suicide when the whole world is catered towards them? It makes 0 sense

It actually isn't, though. Suicide rates are highest in American Indian/Alaska Natives. And in general, it's callous of you to dismiss suicidal people as not worth spending time on, which is what ends up happening when you say people shouldn't care as much about suicide prevention because statistically it affects some people more than others.

Race is only one of the axes on which people are defined, and also a very limiting one. Has it never occurred to you that transgender people have a higher rate of suicide than cisgender? That domestic violence victims are twice as likely to kill themselves?

Suicide rates are higher in Native Americans but whites are the next largest group. And whites are the largest and most dominant group in America. And I did mention something other than race.

It isn't, but suicide does affect all people.

And because I can see this WILL get ugly, I'm just gonna freeze it. I don't want anyone here thinking that being suicidal is "invalid" because of gender, race, etc, because everyone deserves help if they need it.
