on the last thread i remember some people talking about people hacking into inactive accounts with valuable dragons in them. do we know if that's actually happening, or is that just suspicion?

it's already happened.

the account that Naomi (an infamous glitch dragon with a pricy lineage) is on was locked specifically because of too many attempts by others to hack into it plus all the other unsavory attention it was getting.

I always wonder what Naomi's owner is up to now

imo this is 100% still happening. i'm on the ODCA pinglist and have recently been pinged for a lot of 5-6 digit dragons that come from oddly suspicious accounts, in terms of, they seemed entirely inactive before trying to sell these low digit IDs, with a lot of knowledge on who to ping and how much to sell these dragons for

although FR has stepped up their account security by requiring a code when you haven't logged in for a while, this isn't entirely foolproof. with some of the methods people use to get into older accounts (not just on FR), it's possible they also have access to the email the account was made under

This is why I believe that accounts not signed into for a long time, should be made unable to log in without going through staff verification.

iirc they do have some kind of verification process set-up for very old accounts to try to prevent hackers but depending on what it is, it might be easy to game, and there's nothing to say the account holders aren't selling their accounts because they don't plan on coming back to fr.

no measure is going to be fool-proof.

Thank you for mentioning this! I’ve thought about posting about it here but was worried I was just being paranoid. I’m also an oldie collector/keep track of the 5- and 6-digit market and there has been a weird influx of old/otherwise abandoned accounts selling off their low digits. One supposedly returning user in particular seemed suspiciously familiar with the current g1 and custom uma markets…I haven’t wanted to point fingers without proof, but it’s been fishy.

Not sure what could be done to prevent it—whether these accounts are being hacked or sold for rl currency…

Yes, a number of KS age accounts were hacked into for their KS items, Booleans, G1 imps a few years ago. Some of those accounts were sold for USD to other users who may or may not actively use these accounts but may pretend to be the original owners.

Xeiana was one of these accounts that was hacked but the owner got it back just before their G1 imp was RMT'ed or sold to another player. There was a boolean a few years back that some third party was trying to auction that also came from one of these stolen accounts.

I possibly know of 3-4 other KS age accounts that were likely stolen, but I'm not going to drop names because I'm not certain and staff have not closed them down.
