Omg I have no one else to rant about this to so I'm subjecting you strangers to it. The state of my job is so fucking embarrassing and no one gives a shit.

We're having a bit of a Christmas surge right, getting lots of orders for toys and board games. Welp the department that's involved in the area that carries that stuff can't be assed to put any of this shit in packaging. They're just slapping the label directly onto the box it already comes in. Lego, Monopoly boards, robotic toys, etc. These are all just having the labels slapped directly onto them. They are being left on people's porches completely exposed, where they can easily be damaged by the elements, stolen, or just spoiled early because the kid saw it. And no one sees why this is an issue.

I get when this is done with large, heavy objects. If you order, say, a dishwasher online, you are probably going to receive it in the box it comes in. That makes sense, it's something big and heavy, a a lot of warehouses probably don't have packaging able to accommodate something that size and weight. Lego sets are not big and heavy. We very much have bags and boxes able to accommodate these things. But putting these things in additional packaging takes 5 extra seconds!!! God forbid!!!

And yes, I've wanted about this to my supervisors and they don't give a shit. "It's already in a box, it's fine". So I said "okay, we sell iPads too, why don't we just put the labels directly on those because they're already in a box." All I got told was "that's different because it's valuable". As if toys aren't?? Do you think this stuff is cheap???

But fuck them kids, amirite? Let's just leave little Jimmy's Minecraft Lego directly out in the snow, who cares? Who cares if they get a beat up box with half the labeling missing because their parents were forced to rip a big ass sticker off of it? While management continues to whine that we're regularly losing customers, HUH wonder why that is!

Fuck

Worth adding as well that we don't only ship to a small area. It might be less of an issue (albeit still trashy looking) if we only served a small radius of people. But we don't. Some of this shit is going literally well over 2000km away. It is almost certainly getting beaten up in transit.

I hope your workplace at least has a good return policy because hypothetically I would be livid as somebody who likes to keep original packaging of some toy/game items. Hopefully some customer backlash will tell the warehouse otherwise over time.

Exactly! I'm also one of those people (although it's mostly because of OCD for me lol)! Lego is a collectible toy! Some people definitely like to keep the boxes! But ohhh no making additional little boxes for all this Lego is just TOOOOO time consuming!

Said department is also full of people who pack like complete shit, like, to the point things break, and I've reported them MULTIPLE times, but management doesn't give a single fuck. I don't like being the workplace snitch, but it's not a matter of "oh no, the company will lose money if you do that", it's a matter of the all resource waste making me cringe. Can't do fuck all about it though, I'm just thought of as being neurotic. The reason I'm still here is location convenience and the fact that being neurodivergent means interviews and resume writing are absolute hell for me. But holy fuck does this place drive me nuts.

DA

My condolences nonny for the absolute disregard your co-workers and managers show at your workplace, I know how killing it is when you are the only one that tries to give a damn about things not just being done, but being done well.

And if not for interviews and resume writing hell, the job market is just in a messy spot right now - I have had to apply to so many jobs before I managed to land the one I got right now.
